    I don't think it's possible.

    Only adjustment available with regard to difficulty is the handicap. Though that only nerfs human players

    hey red - that is a good idea, maybe we should start a all handicaped tourney or somthing... that is, if it works... make the ai harder to kill fast.

    The handicap just makes it easier does it not? Like 8 hammers to build a warrior on 20%

    Yes. Handicap makes it easier. You could start some players handicapped and then have them drop from the game. Maybe the AI would keep the handicap.

    Yeah Scottie, handicapped tournament would have the opposite effect...

    Though it might be an interesting twist if we had a tourney where the AI was off limits. No attacking AI cities or units...

    Quite like that idea. Based on luck just how close to an ai you start & nothing worse than getting the message your opponent has just walked in on the Spanish/Romans/Arabs

    But then again, that's the game and maybe we meddle too much already by banning civs etc?

    hmm - no I like it

    i also like the dropping out idea but the problem is then you have to have people willing to help but not play the game....

    The thing about an idea like this is it really rebalances the civs. How good are the Zulu when you can't have a walk-in or an easy cap? Still really good if you start close to your enemy. Not so much if you have some distance. America and China remain on top. Spain and Rome get better. Aztecs and Arabs suffer the same difficulty as the Zulu.

    That's not necessarily a bad thing. Mostly, I think it would make games slower. Might get tedious to have a whole tournament based on the idea but a few player matches could be fun.

    Feels to me like the current "meddling" is worth it and making for some good games in the tourneys...

    Though keeping the AI Civs alive would lead to some heavy AI abuse;
    1.) GP stealing for days.
    2.) Steady streams of gold for techs.
    3.) Easy unit upgrades.

    And cons;
    1.) Need for heavier defenses against AI attacks.
    2.) if an AI took a city, you wouldn't be able to take it back.
    3.) Slower starts, sans walk ins.
    4.) More competition for city sites.

    Just to name a few of each...
