there seems to be a variable that is tweaked by various thigns one of these being your tech. I have played GOTW where it was clear that teching Alpha caused the seeding for the huts to tweak from somthing i didnt want (spys i think) to somthing i did want 9caravans). I suspect that kaderas reference to the 1900-1000 period is actually dependant on what the status of your civ is at that stage, it is probably just that kadera at that point is probably post CoL and Literacy and in his gold and expansion stage.

why it would switch to maps at 1000 would either be because at that point he usually pops another tech Or maybe there is somthing else tweaking this secondary seed.. but hmm Im jsut speculating I could do some tests...

Thanks for your time, I agree that you can not play this like chess. you take notes, make illogocal moves, and repeat pathways that start to yield results... do you rely on several high value cities or are you a pandemic city builder? Or do you utilize both techiques for fun or early victories?

John, thanks to Kadera's endless awesome early victory scores, there is no dispute that the mathmatics of playing smartly as a "pandemic city builder" are more favorable that playing with a "quality over quantity" strategy. Time and time again, Kadera finishes the game before the rest of us have arrived at the modern age - often having 40+ cities under his control.

That said, playing with that many cities drives me crazy! For me, managing too many cities sucks the fun out of playing. I play with usually 8-12 cities (sometimes more, sometimes less). In a mature (non-dom) game, My biggest city is always a gold producing city. I will try to build the hanging gardens in it, and at least a few gold relevant buildings and wonders (colossus, etc). Not every city will be really big or great, but i'll have at least a 4 or 5 population in most of them by the end of the game.

If you have the gold you flood almost every square with cities. if you can play USA and have 50 cities by about 1700 or whatever with Industrialization literacy and all the other city based bonuses - there is just no way you can compete with that with just a few cities. Also with many cities you can spam settlers and build up your main production city/mega city so it can jump one pop a turn every turn.

Again,Von, thanks for your advice, I agree there is something to developing a few embellished cities, out of self glorification, that are "recongized" in the top 5... but it won't lead to early victories... I am satsified with any victory before 1700 AD and feel as though I have played within the spirit of what the game is all about... after that date, however, I feel like the AI got the best of me... Really, the AI basically can tie you up in war mode and then the turns start to slip away, while the remaining civs can go for non dom victory or expand... by that time you're in the 1800s+.

As far as Kadera, God bless his patience and technical skills... but I could'nt get passed Calculus, thus my BA degree... Thanks Again .
