Bioshock 3 - will it occur before the fall?

We have never seen Rapture before it fell, it has always been in some form of chaos, Would anyone like to see Rapture before it fell?

I would love to see Ryan Amusements all new and shiny and you could hop into the ride car and enjoy the ride, or check out the Hall of the Future when it actually was bustling with the curiosity of young minds.

You do get to see it for a short while at the start of two in the party.

I would like to see inside fontaine futuristics while it was still running and to go to the underground with the smugglers.

Multiplayer is not a good portrayal of Rapture's Civil War. It wasn't really developed for that concept, rather, it was made for players to have fun. Unfortunately, it is the closest thing we have to Rapture's history before Jack's arrival.

But that would be interesting to see Rapture in its prime. The question is: How would you play it if it was a game?

That's the big problem. Before the fall there really wasn't much conflict. Even for all it's story and RPG elements BioShock is still, at it's core a First Person Shooter, setting a BioShock game before the fall of Rapture means there's no one to shoot and thus kills the game.

Everyone is curious about Rapture before the fall, we want to see this city in its heyday, but if we're honest, its heyday would be pretty boring from a gameplay standpoint.

If we want to see a pre-war Rapture, it would be better to view it as a movie, rather than play it. Really, I don't see HOW you could play it and enjoy it. Who wants to sit there controlling a citizen's normal, everyday routine in Rapture?

Rapture before the fall would be boring, and lose quite a bit of what Bioshock is. You might as well just go play the Sims. Besides, we already know pretty much everything we need to know that happened before the fall. And introducing any new characters that effect the entire city would add just as many or more problems as adding Sofia Lamb did, because theyd be completely absent from Bioshock and therefore would create more plot holes.

Amen to that. New characters need an explanation. If you just shove it in the middle of everything, you'll just make players disappointed. Lamb seemed really out of the blue.

Not really lamb was in persophne during the fall and events of Bioshock so there would be no need to mention her, Atlas didnt care and Ryan had her locked up with his other enemys.

That is true, but I don't know... It still felt sudden for her to just spring out of Persephone and take command. It's like a backup disc taking effect.

It's hinted at that Lamb had well taken over Persephone prior to the civil war, hence why she was able to break out and nab Eleanor during the new years attacks and grab Elly. It's also probably that she got some sort of deal with Atlas during that point in time, how else would she have known what was going on? I'm betting he offered her all the space she needed to run her little commune for exchange that she stayed out of the way. With those things sorted, there was no reason for her to spring up before the war ended.

She is no more than a ghost who has forgotten to die.
Sums up why she played no part in Bioshock 1

To say that everything in Rapture was fine and dandy before the civil war is very unimaginative. I'm sure some screwed up stuff happened during the first genetic manipulation trials... and I'm sure there were always shady things going on under the glamor from day one.

It wouldn't be hard to come up with a plot that wasn't boring.

Rember there were the smuggling rings run by Fontaine and all those who were sent to persephone so there was defenitley something stiring in Rapture

Perhaps for a movie or a book, but for a game, particularly a first person shooter, you're going to need a story that sets up a realistic reason for mowing down waves of enemies, and in Rapture you simply can't get that before the fall.

You would either have to fundamentally change the experience of BioShock or focus on a story after the fall.

Why couldn't 2K create a story line similar to that of MAFIA II where they had you do mundane tasks for a level or two to set the stage for the story ahead.. everyone makes it sound likes its impossible to create a game before the fall, instead of saying it can't be done why don't you think about ways it could be done.

There is a rich untapped story that is entirely in the dark because we know so little about the city and its history, we just think we know the story of Rapture when in fact we might not know as much as we all think we do.
