I am using a HDMI cable and have a PS3 Slim 120 GB.I bought it 8 months ago, it first started ☺☺☺☺ing up about 3 weeks ago.I tried it on two different TV's and it doesnt work on either one.

Have you tried it with a component cable?

Swap them over and then do a hard reset (where you hold you finger on the ON button until it does a few beeps).

    "Crashy"?

This may have something to do with the settings on the TV itself. I am obviously unfamiliar with the TV you have and its finer points, but what I would recommend is fiddling around with some of the settings on it.

By "Crashy" I mean slow loading and its kinda laggy and it crashes alot.I tried it on another TV and it works the same with the strange colours and crashyness.

If you have a removable storage device then you can easily back-up your saves etc before swapping it.

Most of Sony's troubleshooting is a mix of superstition and alchemy [j/k]

Forget Alchemy, from my experience, Sony does nothing more than run you through the idiot check.

"Is it plugged in? Ok, did you hold down the power button until the light turned green? Ok, is your TV turned on? Well, your PS3 is clearly broken beyond repair; the only thing you can do is send in your console and a bucket full of money and we'll fix it for you."

It sounds like maybe the disc reader is broken.Have you tried to see if it would read DVDs and CDs to make sure it wasn't just blu-ray?if they don't play then its definitely the laser. In that case you'd definitely have to send it in to sony.
