Can see servers for MP play.

Hello all. I just got civ 5 and am learning to play it. I have a problem though. Id rather play online and unfortunately I cant because I cant see any servers in the list. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

    Thanks if you can help.

95% of people stopped trying to play the broken multiplayer....tons of threads about it.

There were a bunch of servers the first week or two...but after 6 months and no multiplayer patches everyone has basicly moved on to other games.

First of all, Civ games are peer to peer, we don't have "servers" we just have hosted games. Secondly the reason you may not see alot of games is because steam uses a regional games list system, so you only see games in your area that are low ping to you. So unless you are in an area that has a lot of players, like NY, London or Frankfurt etc, you very likely will not see many games.

That doesn't mean there are not games being played, just that you can not see them in the lobby list.

The solution to this is NOT to use the dumb in game lobby list to try and find games, but use the steam friends/group player lists to join games.

CivPlayers Leagues runs an active Steam Chat room for all MPers, you don't have to join the league to use it. Just come to www.civplayers.com and click on the Chat(steam req) link on the left side menu. And you will be taken to our chat lobby were hosts and other players setup games. You join games, when invited, by clicking on the hosts name in the list and clicking Join Game.

It is that simple, and it works no matter were you live.

Does CivPlayers offer a Civ V game that can be completed in 2 hours? That's the maximum I could devote to any online game.

Also, I still need animations for MP or its just not worth playing Civ V. That is still not available.

You can limit the amount of turns to make before the game ends automatically. That's what some of the people do.

We generally do not tell players what to play, we let the "playground" decide, but yes for the entire history of CivPlayers, game settings have mostly been designed to be completed in a 2-4 hour range. Like BR stated games are turn limited so that there is a conclusion in a time frame that most people can play on a week night. This is just a fact of human behavior for random lobby games. You can organize longer games in the forums, we call these Epics or Iron-man games, but they are generally played on weekends and require a lot more organization and co-ordination that normal random lobby games.
