    Demo, Full Game and SecuROM

Sorry to make yet another topic, but I'm thinking about installing the demo and was wondering what it installed SecuROM-wise. If I install the demo, does it effect the full version at all?

Yes, the DEMO does installed securom. I learned it the hard way.

I have no idea whether the demo will interfere with the actual game but I would be cautious. Do some research on the web first. Even 2K reps on this forum are not reliable source of info.

2K Liz was telling people that the demo has no securom and had to do a 180 and admitted it later.

OK, I've heard all about that.

But does it REALLY matter that SecuROM is installed with the demo, that's what I'm trying to find out. I mean, the demo doesn't need activation or anything so there's no problem there. I don't care if SecuROM is on my PC if the only thing it does is let me play the demo.

    Anyone else?

The question about SecuROM in the demo, is not if it will let you play the demo.

First of all, why is SecuROM is the demo in the first place ? It's just a demo...

Second, it's installed without you knowing about it. Probably a tactic to control piracy, using the Demo's exe. Is it sending data to someone else gathering data ? And what data does it send ? Your IP ? Other data ? We just don't know. If you're willing to take that chance, go ahead, it's your computer.

In the FAQ, they tell us that SecuROM is not a rootkit, but it does have rootkit like features. And after the lies that we received, trust is not exactly something I have for 2K.
Either way, SecuROM should NOT prevent you from playing the demo. But since we don't know what SecuROM is doing in the demo and what data (if any) it's sending back, IMO, it's kinda of risk to install the demo. Ultimately, it's your call.

TBH I don't care that it's there and don't really care what it's doing. I have nothing to hide, so meh.

So why did you ask about it ?

If you really don't care, go ahead and install the demo. As I said, it's your call.

I asked if installing the demo will effect the full version, like using an activation or causing me problems or some crap. I didn't ask "why don't you like SecuROM".

Anyway, just found out the demo of Tomb Raider has SecuROM too, and I installed that. I've had no problems, and I obviously already have the "evil" SecuROM on my PC, so I see no harm in installing the demo and/or Bioshock.

    13. Should pre-release or beta versions be protected?

Yes. If the beta version contains an executable that can be easily modified to run the protected title, once again, pirated duplicates may appear. The unprotected executable may even find its way onto the Internet and impact sales. One strategy for beta or press release versions is to distribute a protected title on CD-R and link the executable to a title-specific SecuROM™ disc. Contact support@SecuROM.com for more details.
As for the other guy claiming you cannot remove it, please die.

Thanks Kyorisu! I don't really mind about removing SecuROM (although might as well try), but knowing why demos have SecuROM should shut some people up. Key word: Should.

Well, I've just done all the "removal" stuff to find out it WAS uninstalled, there is no trace of it left (and AFAIK I've done nothing manually). So, STFU moaners!

Yes, because RootkitRevealer always accurately identifies rootkits!
