I should have challenged you for this tonight, Scottie. It would have been mine!
I should have challenged you for this tonight, Scottie. It would have been mine!
mwahaha well sort of except I was playing pretty much only japan, which is the weakest of the 4.
England is the one I am awesome with - and explains why I still have the title
You did provide very good practise for taking on mawpawk in the touney though - thanks
More seriously - if we remember next time please do challenge! my title is the coolest little title around - its the one everyone wants nowadays!!
I need a title!!! When are U ready to loose Scottie?
Im ready to loose (lol) from about 6:30-11 am GMT weekdays also can get on about 17-19:00 GMT and weeends any time.
You can check my last online time too but if i dont go on civ it may just be my kids.
forum is challenging
he defeated my greeks with his greeks..
I hate those stupid pikeman armies!!!
Ok 3 wins
my english out teched his japanese. he did put up a good defense though but a ga flip put him down
my egyptians out teched his egyptians - simply I got CoR and CoL and literacy from huts. I was unstopable
replayed one my japs vs his english. we both teched up to steam and he kept attacking and I kept repelling hte attack. just as i was going to start my land invasion and he was going to start really rolling cities with his cruiser fleets the game crashed...
one replay he was stuck down the south pole and i had the run of the map. but again we got disconected so replay again.
final -our settlers met early and i jsut sent warriors everywhere - ended like with elthrasher in the tourney - he had nowhere to go.
pal king of the lower tier my ass, ive been pwning with teose civs since day one, i smoke everyone even the good players who use power civs like usa, i dont loose unless i play freeze cheaters or if im stuck on and island, get ps3 and ill smoke u
anyway bump up the king title
I have a can of whoopass that I need to serve up to some one![]()
Scottie I challenge you for this title!! My Japan WILL succeed!!!
got a coupl of gains in against mawpawk.
my egyptians beat his english and my english beat his japan
first game we both settled close to the french, hoever i had walked over a friendly and had 25g. i got to the french first and took them. I also had colossus (effectively transportable hammers!) so even though he was able to attack me 1 vs 1.5 and win - i was able to rush a warrior and hold the city and kill his warrior with a counter attack and the game.
second game my english started on an island that is long and thin with no barbs. it is probably one of the worst starting location in the game becase it tempts you to walk... and then offers you nothing at the end of your walk!
However Mawpawk also had a bad start so i figured things were not too bad.
I built a galley then went around the world finding no AI until i was on the other side of the world!
also no gold until pretty late - good news was mawpawk wasnt having any better luck. then all of a sudden I found russia got 50g from a hut and sold up things for 100g then found double dye, built a library and had tech in the stratosphere!
I built some longbowmen and got CoL irrigation and some other good stuff and was going to get nav etc when mawpawk called it.

Wow use both had bad maps, that sucks.
defended my title. VS mawpawk
my greeks lost to his egyptians (in a sad math where i had the bad side of the map but a good approach to a barb next to his city. I then srewed up a couple of tactial things - which made me get all anoyed at the game... and that is when I really play bad...
then my japanese beat his um.. must be greeks.. cant even remember the details of this game but I won
OK Liam - where are you?

Right here, waiting for you. (I came over all Richard Marx then!) Don't take that literally either. Jesus enough with the inuendos!
There is a very good possibility that I will be online tonight from 8pm GMT. I am going for a well deserved beer after work though as I have just been promoted!
What's the script can I use Japan twice or do I need to be Japan then English like we've done in the past?
PS - How dare you insult Japan on post #82?? You have made me and Tokugawa very cross indeed... ;-)
@Scottie. Against whom did you defend your title?
Congrats for the promotion Sutty!
elthrasher challenged and took out the title - congrads thrasher!
now challenge morte for the endless title!
Well, it was my title to begin with. So...
Egypt vs. Egypt - I settled by Scottie and got Hanging Gardens. He got the Oracle. Things looked bad for me but then a giant red X appeared and saved me. We decided the bugged-out inconclusive game should get a redo.
Egypt vs. Egypt - Scottie spawned on a tiny island. Redo!
Egypt vs. Egypt - This time for sure. I walked a bit and didn't find much of anything. I settled with Stonehenge while Scottie got the Oracle again. Scottie took out London and Beijing right away and got there techs. Then he had the audacity to tell me that I'm lucky because I was able to put my 100g city on spice. Oh yes, I am one lucky fella! A single 1 food 4 trade tile is so much better than getting free cities and free techs.
I beat Scottie to Angkor Wat for the Great Wall so at least I was safe for the moment. I was going to expand and teched up to Writing, but really that was a dumb idea and then a GL appeared. I should have gone legions from the start. Fortunately for me, Scottie goofed in the extreme, probably thinking it was all in the bag. Whatever, I showed up with my elite legions (having to walk around a channel, rather than sail over it due to budgetary concerns) and took his Thebes with his Oracle just about the time he had uselessly teched Engineering (useless because by this point I wanted war and we were doing to darn well have a war GW or no GW). Scottie's horse army was dispatched quickly. He was never able to put together any knight or cat armies. He had a few singles, but my armies were more numerous and tougher. He came in with a couple pushes and gave in when my mighty legions stood strong. For Stonehenge!
My Greeks vs. his England - I guess we spawned close but I walked away from Scottie and wound up settling in a pretty good spot not far from Tenochtitlan. I took the city with a horse army. Aztecs had archers very fast, but I won all my battles. I was going to go into Demo and do something useful but I found Paris so I took that as well. The French had met Scottie's English so I had to be a bit cautious but it was probably too early for him to have a GA and I had a hoplite along for the ride so I wasn't that worried.
Scottie tried attacking Athens. For some reason he thought Athens was Moscow and I had taken the city so he was going to make me army up with hoplites, then flip the city. Well, I don't think Moscow was even in the game and you can't flip my capital. I killed his horse army with a handy Knights Templar I found nearby. Next turn I got my 100g settler and Scottie got his GA. He flipped Paris with my settler inside. Lucky for me, I'd smartly moved my horse army out so I just took it back at which point Scottie gave in since he was without material and I had three caps, the horse army and KT.
Japan vs. Japan - Small island start for me, but I felt like it had possibilities. Japan is okay on an island unless you're up against Spain in which case it's ridiculously stupid. The one barb on my island gave me a galley, as I hoped it would. That got me Angkor Wat for the Pyramid pretty fast. I went into Republic and started expanding with no military whatsoever.
I soon found Zimbabwe and sold the Zulu my precious knowledge of Ceremonial Burial for 25 gold. A bit later I found a friendly and some exploration tiles and hit 100 gold. I had four cities by that point. Shaka showed me exactly where Scottie's empty 100g city was, so I galley-dropped it getting Bronze Working and some gold. He was able to take it back that same turn with two horsemen.
So a couple turns later Zimbabwe fell and I knew Scottie would be coming. My galley was back ready for the 50/50 but I couldn't do it. For some reason our galleys simply couldn't attack one another. Weird. Scottie's boatload of horses and stuff was able to make landfall but by this point I had seven cities settled and a lot of legions already built. I went into Fundamentalism. It was close, but I was able to kill all of his units. Scottie quit. I guess with my Fundamentalism, he wouldn't have been able to stop me from taking Zimbabwe and once I was on the mainland with Republic or Fundamentalism as I pleased, I would have been tough to stop.
Like a high school cheerleader*, I defended myself yet again from Scottie's unwelcome advances.
My Greeks and Scottie's Egyptians - Terrible luck for Scottie. He moves next to my settler when I have 25 gold and haven't moved yet. Game over.
Japanese mirror match - We had roughly equal starts and each got a cap but Scottie was faster to 100 gold and his cap. I decided to keep my powder dry and managed some pained expansion while Scottie flung legions at me. I was getting some good population going when Scottie brought a big pile of units so I GB'd the Great Wall. Scottie gave up because I had at least triple his cities and his legion armies were now useless.
Funny thing about this game, I spawned across a small channel from a barb and I was heading over to get it when Scottie attacked, so I had to recall my horse army. I never made it back to that barb before the end of the game. The first barb I saw in this game was still standing at the end.
My Egyptians and Scottie's Greeks - I got Colossus and desert and was able to take Kyoto with a single horse. Scottie settled near me and tried in vain to beat me up with warriors. He quit when I found Seven Cities. Obviously I was having a ridiculously good game.
England mirror match (exhibition since I'd already won) - We settled close. Scottie got a cap and gold. I didn't get much. I tried running at him with a horse army only to see that he had one as well and I needed to hightail it out of there. I lead him away from my cap because I really had no chance to make a stand there. Had he ignored my bait and run for my London, it would have been over right away.
Some distance away and Scottie not being overly curious about my territory, I found Tripoli and took it getting Fundamentalism as well as upgrading my horse army to Blitz. Scottie went to CoL and expanded like crazy. I think he was distracted and overdid it. I attacked a bit later (had gotten a GL) and he basically just had a ton of empty cities. I think if he had paid more attention and struck the right balance, I would have had no hope.
* Obviously I mean a male cheerleader, like former President Bush.
I want to play! I love Japanese and English, Egypt and Greeks don't care for to much even though I have won all the times I've played with them. I'm on xbl now hit me up (ITz DENI3D) still no mic it broke a while back and I don't really care about talking anyways so peace![]()
I played ITz DENI3D:
My Japan, his England - For some reason I always have a really great game the first time I play somebody. I was all I'm so good at this game and he was all so good you can win without a settler and I was all yeah well I'm almost that good!
My England, his Egypt - He got HGB with an island start. I started on a peninsula and moved in and settled in a more central spot that would eventually earn me Tenochtitlan (walk-in), Rome (horse army) and lots of gold. ID got the Great Wall, so, to not be a hypocrite, I expanded a bunch and he gave up due to not being terribly effective on his island. No libraries! I hit CoL in plenty of time with some 250 gold in reserve.
My Egypt, his Japan - I shifted one tile and settled in 4000 BC with the Colossus while ID took a long walk. By the time he settled south of me, intending to warrior rush the Mongols, Thebes was 3 pop and I had my 100 gold. Now I actually was going to get a library in this game but seeing my technologically-deficient opponent that close to me meant there was no point. I settled my 100 gold city near and ran at him with two horse armies. He managed to kill the first at 3-4.5, which was a wise move, but the second was right behind, ran around his double-wounded warrior army and into his empty cap.
Greeks - We both moved and came to rest about ten tiles apart on a north-south axis. I was south. I settled near Madrid, but couldn't get the walk-in. Instead I threatened for Navigation. Next I played it a little wrong I think. I wanted a horse army to take Madrid when the peace deal was up and I wanted a galleon but I couldn't really afford all that. I found ID to the north in the mean time with a chunk of land between us so no real tactical advantage with galleons. I eventually got my 100 gold settler on a galleon and a horse army to take Madrid, but it seemed really slow. I probably should have just left the Spanish alone after taking their Navigation, which is what I wanted. Meanwhile ID took the other caps with horses and settled a city between us.
This was a long game, over an hour. It took me a while to get going because I didn't get much more gold. I went into Republic and started expanding. I was resynching every turn. At one point that cost me a barracks in Athens. I got two GBs (culture and Monarchy) and got the EIC and Samurai Castle. With Sam I figured I had a shot at beating pikes with catapults so I built a lot of them because I knew I'd lose a few. I followed up with knights because I could only go overland so more cats didn't make sense. We were roughly equal in tech, but ID's cities started falling and that made the difference. He used libraries, but I didn't.
Hmm, looks like an easy title to take :-) When are u ready?
Thrasher I didn't bother with hurrying COL because there was Rome so there was no trading post bonus I was no where near any other islands except one, which I put my second city on other than that I couldn't put cities anywhere even remotely close to my cap because you had cities right next to my island on the mainland I had a couple spots 10+ turns away i was trying to get to but they were to far and you got them first so it was pointless. You must have got a lot of gold for Japan, Egypt game cause you had 2 horse armies in 15 turns i got 1 friendly and 1 barb but accidentally pressed A so you could declare war on me and take my Caravan i don't really think it would've mattered but it definitely sealed my fate. The Greek game freaking sucked I was 1 turn from barrack in first city you took but it wouldn't let me pull up city screen to change to pikes before you kept attacking me. If i could've got those pikes out i probably had that game, you would've eventually taken city but I would've built roads and had vet catapult armies taking it back. Anyways it was a good game I had realllly good islands to but they came a little to late![]()
Definitely need a rematch though![]()
Well, the thing is I moved one tile to have three deserts and settled in 4000 BC and got Colossus. With Colossus you can always work desert gold as it's the same as hammers except you also get food so I had grown by 3000 BC and had my 2nd city settled with two trees. Between the 12 gold I could make in Thebes and the 4 hammers I do in the other city, that's a horseman every other turn. I had an okay amount of gold, but it was mainly just using the Colossus as a horseman factory that got them out so fast. Since you were close with only one tech, I obviously didn't need anything else.
Title defense vs. forum (preyforme).
My Egyptians, his English - My settler with 25 gold caught his. I had Stonehenge, but who cares?
My Greeks, his Egyptians - I got 100 gold super fast and found Thebes close. I took a chance and won a 2-2 battle with a horseman to take the game. He had Stonehenge.
My English, his Greeks - This time I walked a long time and didn't find much . I settled kind of late, but in a good spot with 60 gold. Meanwhile forum took out Tripoli and got Fundamentalism. He got Horseback pretty fast as well, so I recalled a horseman from barb patrol because I figured he'd come for me. I wound up with this situation:
I had three non-vet horsemen. One of them was adjacent to London with no movement. Another was on the same tile with one movement. The third was on a hill adjacent to both London and my other horsemen with one movement. forum's vet horse army was adjacent to both of my horseman tiles with a river between him and the one that didn't have a hill. He didn't have movement. So basically, I could form the army and attack, but it would be over a river so I'd be at 3-4.5. Or I could form the army and climb the hill, then button race and hope for 9-4.5. I went for the latter and lost the race.
Japan Mirror match - I walked a bit and found pretty much nothing so I settled. I took a barb next to my capital and started on Horseback Riding. I was going to send my warrior out exploring when I noticed a tile in the lake I had passed had been named (Hansu Lake). Very unusual and meant he had a galley for sure. I couldn't move my warrior out or he'd galley-drop me. Anyway, I wound up basically completely gold-starved. forum built archer armies anywhere I could reach and slowly teched to CoL. I attacked him with legions but the battles didn't go my way.
My England, his Egypt - I didn't have a great walk this time and wound up settling with no gold and just trees and plain water. Things looked kind of poor when I met an Egyptian warrior really early. If there had been a horse army behind it, I would have lost very quickly. But the attack didn't come and so I was able to horserush Japan and eventually build up decently. I got the Ark too. My first GP was a GA and I managed to flip forum's library city. What do I keep saying about libraries? Anyway, he couldn't compete at all in tech after that. However, if it's any consolation, my free trading post did show up in that city. I put a couple of cities on dye and I got knights fairly quickly, despite not beelining. Yeah, free libraries are pretty good. I'll take those. I ended up not needing the knights. forum attacked my warrior with an archer army in Thebes, so I knew he'd lose his fortification so I just took Thebes with my horse army. Knights were a turn too late! This, by the way, was a 3rd Stonehenge game.
Started a challenge for this, just the 1 game, so if anyone else starts and finishes, then no worries.
My Egypt (HGB) vs Greece. I walk for no gold and i'm blocked in a carp bit of turf by the Aztecs. Takes me forever to take them out and I think this is where I more or ess lost it. I did get the 7 cities though, so it made it worth a shot. Thrasher however, came at me with a horse army and i had to blow it on roads/legions to stay in it. He had the GW, so those units ended up just defending for nothing. He came with knights and cut through like butter. GG.
I'll upload at some point, but I've got a few!
Since this title is owned by Thrasher and he hasn't been heard of for a long time now... me and Grizz decided to revamp the title best of 5.
First game is Greeks vs Greeks
I move and get 25g and spot Grizz settlers. He moves and declares war with his settlers and settles near a not far barb. I move to capital and could have took it in a button race but I was in demo and he decided to conduct diplomacy. Game went downhill from there as he take out the Arabs and receives Fundy. He come to my cap with a WA and Pikeman. Makes me rush gold and I never get 100g. I tried to do a around the back surprise but the cultural outline I seen when I moved was not a work tile but the cap and the surprise move didn't work. I attack Athens with single horse but it lost 3 to 7.5. I quit.
Next game, My English vs his Japanese.
I move for about 7 turns before settling next to HGB Egypt. I take them out at around 2700 bc. Strangely they had a archer. Meanwhile Grizz took out someone and eventually he takes out Americans. I'm starving for gold but got two caps. 2 barbs out of 4 gave me tech, others horses but my last showed me 7cog. That put me in high gear now. Grizz is teching to catapults he tells me but I'm well on my way to knights. I get a GS and rush Feudalism. I get a KA together pretty fast so I start heading towards Grizz area but being cautious of the March HA he had. I then find KT for a cannon that for once came in handy. I sneak up on a very nice city of his and attack from out of the water 4.5 to 4 and win. Once city down! Then my KA found a wandering settler near a city of his, take that. Then I go after the city it was near, took that. Then I came across one more city and took that when Grizz calls it. He got to Navi and had his catapults but they weren't formed and he apparently didn't have the time or money.
Next game, My Japanese vs his English
I settle in a questionable spot but had 3 barbs near me so I was cool. Come across stupid Zulu but they never was a bother. Grizz walked around a bit longer than I did and I encounter him at a barb. Me, Grizz and the Indians got out eyes on the barb. I come out with the prize. I get my 100g and make galley. I spot AoC and hint to Grizz I need to build temples, lol. He eventually gets his 100g too but I knew he was going for a HA rush since I encountered a horse at a barb that he took. Horse dies attacking my warrior and my warrior gets march. I take my time and eventually see English borders. I wait till next turn and like the Mighty Zulu... run into cap without no one in it. He said he thought he had a archer in it but from what I saw and the outcome... there was none. Grizz quits...
Next game, My English vs his Greeks
He start on a big island and I figured someone would as I knew the board 3 turns in running around with settlers. I didn't settle until 3200 bc next to a barb in a stupid spot. I get my 100g and so did Grizz way before me. I encounter Grizz Greek Trireme at some choke point and seen Aztec borders. Militia defends at choke point allowing me to not declare war on Aztecs... he eventually takes them out. I build a galley and head in a direction I knew there were islands with possible treasure. I find KT for knight and then 2 turns later I find 7cog about 5 tiles away from a city that Grizz planted on a island. I take out the city as it was empty at 4 pop. Grizz is frustrated at this point, especially due to the 7cog in both my English games. He comes down towards my area with a Infil HA but before any real attacking he concedes the game.
MultiPlayaBeast is new Lower Middle Tier King!
Wot no Egypt?
Yup....hey we just played a rematch since its the next day......
Gm1...My England find 7CoG and his Greek withdraw when I galley drop India
Gm2...His Jap somewhat block me in the corner and he finds 7CoG...I sneak a HA around him and take the Arabs, then all caps, and eventually his with 2 Fundy CA
Gm3...My Japan settle on first turn to get barb at 3600....It gives me a boat and I see Russia borders...I see Multis Engl 2 tiles away so I galley drop Russia before he can walk in....after defedning with WA he withdraws.....Im the new lower middle tier king!
