    Button races

It has become very frustrating to lose button race after button race without any clear signs as to why. It seems there are basic rules governing the race and also tricks to increase your odds at winning. Certainly ensuring no popups appear to take you away from the race is foremost but even with a single unit i have lost. often i will also lose that units movement as well. Any thoughts from the group?

    1. Be host.
    2. Have fast reflexes.

All kidding aside, you basically have to press the joystick and A at the same time. You have to press the buttons before the game even responds. Don't wait for your curser to move before pressing A.

With that being said, I'm very average on the buttons, which in my opinion is one thing that seperates me from Pedal2, Morte, TyShine.

There is a logic behind it, I've found something else to say, but it's really simple

It's not a cheat, want me to tell it?

I'm not sure why youre asking if we want to know when that was the point of the thread.... so yes, please tell.

    It was a joke

    It's really simple:

Always avoid diagonal attacks, and now I don't remember, but it could be better to attack right/left rather than up/down (I usually remember when I'm playing)

Plus the other thing you said, don't wait, just press A.

Diagonal attacks are harder to pull of. I don't look for button races, but try and be ready for them when they come. I am probably slower now, since I dont play so much, but its ok I am wiser now.

this topic brings to mind something that was brought up in another thread. if i meet the enemy, and we will have a race next turn for my cap, am i cheating by not letting him declare war on me via diplomacy on the turn we meet? i have been operating under the assumption that i do not need to be cordial if i'm not in democracy.

Are you talking about letting the diplo time out or are you talking about choosing "I'm busy right now"? The latter is certainly fine since the game allows it. The former is more questionable territory.

Personally, I think allowing the two human players in a H2H match to be at peace was a dumb design decision.

I just press B when I don't want you to be at war with me I think.

totally legit. only non-legit stuff is letting diplo time out to stay at war when in democracy or when your opponent has GW.

The trick is when you are in demo, at peace with them, and they walk next to your empty cap and you get an auto diplo request. Its tricky because if you accept diplo they have the option to declare war with you and maybe win the race for your cap. But clearly they arent interested in making peace with you since you are already at peace. I guess if you are greece and this happens before they attack you, the pragmatic approach is to let it time out, since there is no way/chance for you to attack them as you are already at peace. Others may disagree, since letting diplo time out is in general viewed as glitching, but in this specific circumstance I think most would be ok with it...

Pedal 1 hates them. Pedal 2 is the best at them.

I've never won a button race against pedal 2. Not once. He just run his HA at me at the end of the turn (he has more patience than me) and then beats me on the buttons every time. He knows it, and he uses it to his advantage.

I think I can get TyShine about 25% of the time if its on my host!

That's your fault for not being 15. What were you thinking?
