Prombem with Civ IV

I have civ IV complete edition installed and when double-click the desktop icon(all three)nothing happens,i downloaded a crack(only for original game,i can't find broken sword) and plays fine.What may be the promblem?
I have windows XP.The first time i installed it when i bought the game,before 6 months,played normal but now doesn't,i also reinstalled but nothing.

Did you buy the Complete Edition?
If so, then whatever you have installed there, remove everything, all of it. That crack you got, get rid of that completely. All traces. Reinstall it and let me know when you have...

I'll let you off this once, but what we do around here is assist those customers that purchase and use the software within the realms of what is legal. There will be plenty of other forums on which you can discuss piracy.

Just bought civ 4. Loaded the game from the supplied disc. When i try to play the game an on screen msg tells me that there are compatability issues with vista home. I click the microsoft link for solutions, but none are found. Please help if you can

Which version of Civ 4 is it?

Should say it on the box. This determines the next course of action. There isn't a compatibility issue we can't resolve simply

Thanks for quick reply. Excuse my ignorance, but i only see the title and game review issue no. 155. Date on back of case 2005. On disc itself there is a code - 118 MT v3.6 Hope this is not totally useless to you. Regards

Completely no use whatsoever

Well, anyway, if it says 2005 we can deduce that it is certainly not the Complete Edition, so it is going to need patching manually.

But do not use the update feature in the game!

Go to www.firaxis.com * and get them both - 1.61 and 1.74 and install them one after the other. When 1.74 is done it may lead to a situation involving DirectX9 and if it does we can solve that simply.

Just let me know what happens when launching after updating.
