You know, I was thinking about this, and what I see in my mind (If there was a movie) looks pretty darn awesome.
Could either be very cool, or very disappointing. I have yet to see a game -> movie that has actually been good though.![]()
No games should be made into movies. Well none that are half good. If bioshock was made into a movie you would then have Bioshock: the movie game. Where you recreate events from the movie and its very boring.
And you'll get actors like. Vin diseal as Jack. And Lindsay lohan as Tenenbaum and everyones like, oh noes the cast sucks, the movies suck. well lets comit Bioshock to the ground beneath arcadia.
And rest.
untrue it could take place after or before in the civil war or the decay of rapture
well it would be alright as long as they dont change the story ass much as they did the movie. Why the hell did the Nemesis turn nice? that wasnt in the game
I tell you what, im about to embark on my final year at university (studying a degree in Video Production). If a 'bioshock' movie hasn't been made, I'll write one and create one as one of my first 'work projects'.
Expect it to be a rubbish, low budget, striaght to DVD kinda movie.![]()
A movie would be nice, but only if it was done correctly.
Movie should start with a sort of short scene being maybe 10 mins of Ryan welcoming people aboard the first ship sailing to the Rapture Lighthouse then should skip a few years to the start of plasmids with testing in special rooms and stuff for a quick minute and then should skip a few more years to the plane scene for the opening of the game and things should be set out just about the same way the game had it.
personally i think there shouldn't be a movie about that game ... same as doom will happen .. totally flop !what about when u start your trip in rapture ( after the plane crash ) u are alone , u talk just with radio if the movie include also others person it will be different from the game play , but realize a movie based on FPS game action is rly rly hard job to do.
A BioShock movie doesn't seem like it would require a tremendous amount of effort, given what the game is like.
I mean, the only requirement I can see being necessary are additional scenes away from the "player" that serve to explain backstory and such, but more importantly, the main use would be to alter the passage of time in such a way that, after the movie returns to Jack's perspective, he's gone from the emergency access area in Medical to one of the lower floors, and you maybe got to see a cool scene where Atlas beats the ☺☺☺☺ out of a Splicer or Ryan is tipping off Steinman or something.
As for video game movies in general, I think the reason they suck is because we want the writer/producer/director/whoever to stick faithfully to the things that were already established in the game, but they never do.
I mean, we think that Big Daddies are fine and all and we know their function and behavior, but some ☺☺☺☺head director who hasn't touched a game in his life would probably have a scene where a Big Daddy attacks Jack unprovoked because he thinks a scene like that would be "cool", even though it'd be ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺.
And because they're such pussies, they'd probably take out the Little Sisters altogether and have Jack harvest the ADAM from the Big Daddies instead, because tightwad special interest groups would make a stink over the harvesting of little girls and picket the studio or some other ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺ excuse they wanna use for pissing all over their own artistic integrity.
Now here's a question: Would a BioShock movie be live-action, or could 2K and Take-Two get away with a machnima release?![]()
I think it would be cool for real live actors (Not dead) But i would hate a big Daddy to just attack but it would be cool if jack goes up to it and hes like "What the hell is that" then gets to close to the LS and it gets mad and knocks him back then lumbres off again as jack gets back up and says "I wont do that again!"
I hate the idea of a Bioshock movie.
Not just because video games movies are generally terrible, or don't adhere to the source material.
You have to remember that while you play, you are Jack. You're not watching from behind his eyes, listening to him talk. YOU are Jack, you choose what to do, (with some mental suggestion :P). You simply can' put an actor in his shoes and give him lines, because everyone sees him as a different character.
If the movie supports SM2.0, then maybe. But it would still get ruined like Resident Evil and all those Uwe Boll movies. Have you guys seen either the 2nd or 3rd RE movies? I saw part of the 2nd one and passed out from how terrible it was and woke up with my eyes crusted shut with blood. I only retained sight out of one of them, which I lost when I saw previews for the 3rd one.
Hey look, las vegas has been covered in sand because.... zombies. THE DESERT TOOK IT BACK?! What the ☺☺☺☺? The sand was infected with the virus and swarmed the city in hopes of growing a mouth to eat people with? Girl power can save us! Kick that sand!
Although it would be awesome, it'd be too hard to tell a story movie style in rapture.
The problem is the game was constructed of lots of little backstories, with a main story popping up now and then. That's hard to create a valid story from.
Peace
mhm...Not sure about the Bioshock Movie..
But it could be interesting.
But I hope the story will be different and not the same as the game...
Maybe they should make the movie where Atlas is the main character or when Rapture has just been build and is gonna open and than the fall of Rapture ( but I think you can hear that on the audiologs in the game, not sure - still playing it)
they should make a movie of this game! The story, characters and script is just amazing.
This is one of the few games that has a deep enough plot to the point where a movie could easily be made without altering the storyline much.
maybe but only if they dont make it ghey
What I would like to see is if they do indeed make a movie, that they keep the art-deco look & feel of the game. That's why I like it, really--it's unique in that aspect.
Actually, I would love to see an "Art of Bioshock" book as well.....
Wow, you've seen Hitman already? You must be special. ...Because it's not coming out until November. http://imdb.com/title/tt0465494/
Video game movies are made to fail. No video game can be made into a good movie (except Mortal Kombat, which totaly rox cox, but thats it). Non of the Resident Evil movies were good, The Hitman movie is going to fail. Uwe Boll has scared the world of video game movies, each one further degrading movies and video games. I can only hope the Metal Gear Solid movie has a fighting chance if made.
A Bioshock movie, just the thought of it, hurts my brain.
Silent Hill has been the only halfway decent video game movie, and even that was nonsensically spliced from what it should've been. If only it hadn't been for that Hollywood moron coming in and saying, "no, you have to make it different from the video game in this way and this way and this way." I mean, one of the wonderful things about the original story was the fact that FOR ONCE, the natural mother was the villain while the adoptive father was the hero! FOR ONCE, you had an everyman, but a gentle one, not some cliched musclehead badass, a loving father who didn't need blood ties to risk his very life for his daughter; he cared that much. Even with a female lead it could've been reasonably true to the game, particularly with how closely the style matched, but they had to go and weird it up.
Why, honestly, WHY should we want a Hollywood as weak and crappy and ill-conceived as today's Hollywood to make a Bioshock movie? Putting aside the occasional fluke, and taking previous video game movies as examples, it would have no choice but to be complete crap even if Ewe Boll doesn't sneeze within a million miles of it. You know they would throw out everything which makes Bioshock wonderful in favor of GRAYT BEEG EKSPLOWSHUNS and KEWL POWERS. And probably blond-topped silicone-implanted stick women, and lots of fart jokes.
No thank you. Hollywood seems to be quite dead. Until somebody resurrects it, I'll stick with the games.
Hey guys, check out IGN's article about this. Type in BioShock under article search. It should be under movies.
I saw this a day or two after release. It's actually pretty well thought out. Sorry for not having a link other than; www.ign.com
for some reason the way u spelled gay makes me laugh haha
anyway, if done right it would be a stellar movie...unfortunately theres yet to be a videogame movie done right. Halo has the makings of the first real good videogame movie till Corporate Hollywood effed it up. goddamn suits

my kingdom for an edit button!!
I was thinking about a Bioshock movie, too. All my friends that have played agree. I would gladly pay to see it! I can just imagine the trailer too. Fontaine comes out of a bathysphere, walks up to a podium and says, "would you kindly go see Bioshock the movie"? And then show tons and tons of people with wrenches pouring into movie theaters, the big daddies are taking tickets and little sisters coming out of the walls stealing popcorn from everyone...it'd be awesome.
EDIT: Ooh! Better idea! Have a big daddy walking out of "Beowulf" hand in hand with a little sister with 3d glasses on. Or have her waking out of "Hitman" and take the Adam tool and stab her own eyes out.
Also, Harrison Ford.

wow that ign article really does a thorough job for that movie...theyve got it all planned out all someone needs to do is act on it...btw for anyone that wants to read it its at http://movies.ign.com/articles/813/813860p1.html
they oughtta do is have david lynch direct it.
it would be the coolest thing ever.
then have the Residents do the soundtrack.Kool
A movie could have potential but with a game like this theres no need to make a movie, its more than a movie. Why would you want to watch someone act when you could play as the lead actor yourself. And more than likely it is going to be aimed at a mainstream audience, and the true fans of the game will be disapointed.
I say its a bad idea, just concentrate on the games
i disagree...i think making a movie will provide an entire new medium through which to see the game...as for the mainstream audience you may be right but there is always some stuff changed from games and books but i never seem to have a problem with it as long as it doesnt go horribly off track
I think that it could possibly work...but they would find a way to ruin it. And the worst thing about once a game is ruined by a bad movie is the stigma of people going, "Bioshock? I saw that movie. It sucked!" can last forever.
First person shooters = Fun
Movies that are also first person shooters only you don't get to be that person = Not so fun...
I think it would be great if it were maybe more about the start of Rapture, their initial dreams and lives there and their eventual degradation and how the whole thing fell apart. A lot of action, but also lots of characters interacting and not just a musclebound moron running around dropping tidy little packages of catchphrases every 10 feet (Hasta la vista, Dr. Steinman) and blowing people up. I realize that the game is largely running around blowing people up, but in the game you get to participate. Which can make all the difference as far as enjoyment goes.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Bioshock graphic novel or something along those lines. I think that would work way better than a movie.

id love to see a screen adaption, if done well
however imo please not Hollywood, really wouldnt work
the character/actor choices would need to be right too. Had a look at that article
http://movies.ign.com/articles/813/813860p1.html
hmm Laurence Fishbourne as Atlasyeah he's a great actor but dont think he'd be right for the Irish accent of Atlas
probably agree with Hopkins as Ryan though, he could certainly pull it off he is a very good actor and would fit the part of Ryan nicely (from his Hannibal Lecter days
)
Done right, the movie could be as awesome as the game. Done wrong, with unfortunately is more probably, and 2K will lose some of it's well earned respect and money.
The people who wrote the IGN thing are dumbasses. All their picks are idiotic and sound liek the people never played BioShock.
