Can't get Civ5 to launch

[charpskin]

I haven't been able to get the game to launch - it just shows a box saying "preparing to launch civ 5" then it disappears and nothing happens (I don't even get to the point where we choose which dx version).
I've also tried to "verify integrity of game cache" which always finds one file that needs to be updated, but then it doesn't do anything.
I also upgraded my video card and updated all the drivers thinking that might be the problem, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Looks nice. Go with this:
Go with something went south. Verify the game files, and check the system logs for errors. If the errors are steam related, then it's steam. Otherwise your CIV5 install might be bad, the game got written on a bad sector, or your system looks at you like your retarded for installing porn rather than CIV5. Not a whole lot could be bad on the start-up. It's sually very few things, like bad files, or the execution from Steam isn't good. If you suspect a bad sector, disc scan your system.

Try starting CIV5 from an actual CIV5 direct icon, not steam. it will still go through steam, but you can rule out the Steam Window hopefully.

Last thing, make sure your specs are at the minimum for running the game. I know mac's are really good about closing applications that require more than can be supplied (self-preservation). If the game starts drawing more than the system can handle it will abort to prevent a total lag out.

Don't go straight for re-installing the game yet. Try all that, starting with confirming specs, before you touch re-installing. Not everything requires a re-install.
