Petition To Have Animations As Option In Multiplayer

Putting out a game in this condition is shameful. I bought this for my brothers for christmas. I didn't go on the forums to read about the game, because I always trust Sid to put out a excellent quality game. I am very surprised that it is incomplete. The fact that you twisted it into being what the players wanted is what really disappoints me. So your going to blame us? If it was based on a matter of opinion that you don't have animation in, well let's go ahead and set that opinion straight. Sign here if you think Sid should give us our animations back.

Naturally. Should be options for optional, well, everything.

  3. #3
    +1 for me.

They shoulda just kept the single player content in mutliplayer, all the options we need are already there. The multiplayer is disgusting.

Marketing for dummies - it is easier to keep customers than to make new ones a little feedback would have been swell. I have no more faith in the Civ franchise and that is the honest truth.

Umm, I think some semblance if a playable multiplayer game is needed before anybody worries about animations, but for what it's worth, sure.. animations would be a fine option to have to turn off.

Please make this a priority. Default animations to off, with a checkbox to enable them.

Should not have even been left out as an option.

    +1 +1 +1 from me.

Also, after glancing through a few of the threads around here, it seems there are two personas for users of Civ 5 multiplayer: the 'big game' (usually competitive) and the 'small game' (usually more for fun; friends & family, etc).

Small games (you and a couple friends or family members) care mostly about immersion and fun. Game balance be damned (to a point). ☺☺☺☺ty AI - oh well, because we want to win anyway. Speedy turns aren't really necessary either, because you're talking and laughing and so on. But animations are CRITICAL for this group, believe me - ESPECIALLY if players are new to Civ and having their first experiences on multiplayer. Ultimately this is about fun and satisfaction.

Big games (usually anonymous on the web - but not necessarily) seem to care less about animations/immersion and more about game speed and stability. In general it seems that these players are dissatisfied with game stability all around. I haven't experienced this personally but judging by the volume of complaints alone it seems no doubt that this is an issue.

The bottom like for 2k/the Civ team is this: every game in the Civ series has been polished, fun, and ready to purchase on day 1 without waiting for reviews, reading forums, or asking friends. Civ 5 (multiplayer) is not. The problem going forward is that now I don't see how either 'big game' or 'small game' players can hope to purchase "Civ 6" when it's so clear that 2k does not understand what their users want from a multiplayer experience. And this will become TRULY ☺☺☺☺ty for ME when half the players in my gaming group don't want to put their faith in the Civ series again - because with games like this it's all in or all out. I'm (personally) not going to buy Civ 6 so I can sit online for 4+ hours with strangers. That is the real bummer in all of this.

Because they already have your money, and they can make MORE by putting out DLC for fanboys than fixing MP. . .

I too was sucked in to buying a 2nd copy. My friend and I looked forward to playing all week. What a ripoff. Sid really screwed us. We gave up after only 20 minutes and were really bummed. How could we have no options available. No animations? How can you tell what is going on? And you can't even add as many civilizations as you want on the maps. How come? It makes no sense. I feel completely ripped off by Firaxis. Every option in single player should be available in multiplayer: period.

I swear to christ if I ever got a chance to meet face to face with the lead designer on the multiplayer of this Civ 5 game, I would without hesitation break his/her fracken legs. I swear it! great singleplayer, but multiplayer.... I would seriously break their gawd dam legs. Stole money out of my pocket buying a second copy of this crap for multiplayer not knowing it wasnt the same game as the singleplayer. If 2k's listening I mean every word.

why is sirmaru not on this board?
it would be perfect for him.

he raised this very concern. And there s a whole thread about it!

I pmed him about it, but it seems they didn't have PM's back in the good old days. thus this newfangled modern function escapes him

signed, even though I don't like MP.

Yes! My friend and I want multiplayer animations as an option!

We always play us vs. the AI. We like blowing stuff up! And if we can't see it being blown up, or enemies stabbed with rusty bayonettes, it loses its satisfaction!

Oh yay... Nothing moved and we get a little -5 number floating above the enemy. So dull and boring. Don't you want to see my little face light up as my longswordsmen charge and impale the enemy?

I think it's the #1 reason why I don't recommend the game to my friends or family.

I love all the members with 1 to 5 posts here saying they won't recommend the game to their friends because of no animations in MP.

I hope not. My faith in humanity would be ruined.

Wait! I have an idea. What if the MP animations were a set of keys jangling in the foreground of their computer screen? Would that work?

I also REQUIRE animations to play two handed Civ V war in my standard settings: one on one human, no AI, no barbarians, no city states and start in Modern Era with just time or Domination victory.

I just checked my Private Messages and have none but the 3 stored warnings NOT to ever mention the above user options I just mentioned here. I fully expect to be banned now. Mentioning those user options seems to send others into a tailspin of insults and anger. Its just as well that I now leave this Forum in a blaze of glory.

Civ V without animations would be like a silent film of the 1920's versus a HD movie with stereo sound. There is no comparison.

The PM link doesn't even flash with new messages so I have no way to even know if I have a PM. Most Forums have it flash on and off.

Without animations Multiplayer just isn't worth it. If can't see those atom bombs and nukes explode, I'd rather just play online chess.

Good point. There's something enjoyable about watching an ICBM devastate your opponent's size 30 city. Nuke animations are a must.

The choice not to implement animations in a game released in LATE YEAR 2010 was shameful, at least. What is the point to have shiny Dx11 graphics if everything moves like an Amiga500's Chess game? No, wait: 1985 games actually HAD animations... Civ V doesn't. Oh crap.

    This
    is
    simply
    crazy

I stopped playing after 1 month because of that, 50 Euros are gone. Thank you Fireaxis. I swear: as a customer, I will not forget this.

Civ5 is like Chess or Checkers.... maybe even Chinese Checkers. It's not Archon. Animations add polish to the game, but they are not integral to game play. They are completely static. To say that you stopped playing after 1 month because of a lack of animations is laughable. Civ5 doesn't feel finished or complete. If that is what you are trying to say, then I agree.

  39. #39
This is just more proof that the game was unfinished and out the door to early. There will be no animations in multiplayer...trust me.

  40. #40
Then I suppose I'll let you laught: i stopped playing the game ONLY because the lack of multiplayer animations. I believe <Crashes/Balance/AI/.../> are not issues, for a simple reason: It's noticeable that they are actually fixing those (or even trying to fix those). The feeling about MP animations is that it simply doesn't matter for Fireaxis developers; in fact, I never red a statement like "We are very sorry for this lack, and we'll try to fix it asap".

I don't give a damn about the fact that this doesn't affect the gameplay. Civ5 without animations (just like every other presumable game) simply is HORRIBLE to look at. I am a strategy fan and I'm the first one to frequently point out that "sweet graphics is not everything". But this is too much: lack of unit animations render the game graphically DISGUSTING, no matter how good and appreciable the game mechanics are: there is no satisfaction on doing combat, and the whole game feels like... just NOT a videogame.

    From wikipedia
A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device

"feedback on a video device" means something I CAN SEE. That's the difference between a Videogame and a game made by our imagination: dungeons & dragons for instance, where you CAN'T see the dragon attacking you, but you use your imagination to create it in your mind; or even the lots of games we played with the support of our fantasy when we were childs (out plastic soldiers were not actually shooting each other, but we wondered about it and made it real in our minds). A videogame is supposed to entertain me with a visual feedback: when my archer shoots I want to see the arrows being thrown, fly by and finally reach their target causing any sort of damage. If it's not the case:

IT'S NOT A VIDEOGAME, or it fails to be that.

Clearly everything I wrote is my humble opinion.
