does computer cheat about access to required resources also ?

so I know the comps cheat with some numbers and units on harder diffaculties.. but on a prince game today I was playing and the comp had modern tanks but no access to any alluminum nor did they have acces thru trades.

Does the comp cheat or is it supposed to cheat on what resouces it has access to ?

I don't know if the AI cheats like that, but a military CS can gift a unit that you don't have resources for (maybe they don't even have resources for).

I have to ask, how do you know they had no access to it through trades as i don't know of a feature which will tell you this?

I think if you discover your opponents land, then you can see what resources are there, by clicking on map options? and show resources. But dajet would have to have discovered his opponents entire land to see if there was any of that resource.

if you want to see what strategic resources an opponent has available just open up trade and look under his strategic resources then cancel the trade after you received your intel. Same goes for luxury items.

This in not what you meant in the original post but believe that the AI can see stratigic resources before he aquires the tech. Rome founds a city many many hexs a away on what appears to be desert, but later on their is a source of alluminum or oil or iron. So I beleive they can see resources before they should.

there was a river near by so he could place the Hoover Dam on it.

EDIT: I have heard other people mention random city later resources before too.

Pretty definitive proof of AI-cheating, that.

Personally, instead of making them REQUIRED, I wish that lacking resources like that just made them MORE EXPENSIVE.

Don't know if it would have saved them any though. Though it might have be more popular then Gladiators.

It's reversion to the mean... I mean, come on, the AI settles so many randomly located cities, some of them are obviously going to hit resources.

Maybe, but it is still odd and I still am not convinced they don't cheat

was kinda hoping for a 2K response to see if this is indeed a normaly AI feature.. seems abit broken though since it would mean resource aquisition or blocking the comp of said resource meant nothing.

My guess is they used better diplomacy to trade with another CIV.

Same as with civ4, sometimes you get suggested sites for cities based on resources yet to be visible.

On the OP I think you might have missed something: You wont see the map symbol for the resource if the resource is located in the same tile as a city. Try mousing over his cities propably there you can find aluminum. I have never noticed A.I cheating on this.

Hover over the unit while one of you units is selected (like you're going to attack it) and holding down the ALT key (required to see the peace time combat odds). Notice if it has a -50% resource penalty. If it does, it was most likely gifted by a city state.

When placing a city I am aware that a stretch of barren desert is a hot location for strategic resources later, particularly oil. Maybe the AI thinks it's a reasonable gamble also.

I just had this happen with England sending a settler all the way across the ocean to plop a settler into my big desert. She settled right on top of the oil, and I didn't realize until after I razed the city. A sweet little prize at the bottom of the cereal box!
