Possible instance of 'late game crash'
Good evening,
My Civ 5 (vanilla, as automatically patched via Steam) installation has recently begun crashing to desktop during in the latter half of the 20th century (game time). I believe these crashes may be instances of the 'late game crash'. Essentially, on hitting 'next turn' the screen goes black and a message box advising that the game has had to close, and offering to automatically report the problem, appears. The crash shuts down Civ 5 and reverts to desktop. This never happened to me prior to early Dec, when I began playing as USA on a larger map than normal. That particular game would always crash in around 1996 (it was always the same year, I just can't recall exactly which one). I restarted a game, with the same settings (which included a random map), and this time achieved a guaranteed crash, in 1963. I have a saved file of this game. Hitting 'next turn' always triggers the crash, without exception. I then tried a smaller map, and this evening achieved what appears to be the same crash in the late 1970s. As I was not saving every turn, I do not have a save file for this, but no doubt I can generate one by playing the last autosave for a few more turns, saving each time until it inevitably crashes.
I have looked at a couple of other posts on this topic, and the advice seems to be to try the strategic view, which I will do, and to create a new thread reporting the problem and providing DXdiag information. I tried to insert my DXdiag settings below my signature block, however this blew the character limit on the message text. I do not have permissions to upload the saved game file.

You can update those graphics drivers from www.nvidia.com and it may well clear up such an issue

keep in mind, that may not be the problem. We're still getting crashes in spite of driver updates

Noted - a good reminder.
I've upgraded the drivers and checked that microsoft update thinks I'm up to standard, so I guess the next thing is to try again.

Repost your DXDIAG please.
Windows update is a bad indication of up to date drivers.

Crash appears to be resolved
Many thanks for all the advice and suggestions - something has certainly worked. Ian - since updating the video drivers per your suggestion map scrolling and drawing appears to have improved markedly (no red spots anymore, faster scroll speed, tiles don't seem to take a noticeable period of time to draw correctly). Critically, my current game did not crash in the late 70s, and indeed I've just completed it with a diplomatic victory in 2005. I would suggest that on the basis of this admittedly limited evidence, this problem appears to have been solved, and that anything else that happens now is probably a new problem!
I'll repost the DXdiag excerpt below, as requested, and keept testing by playing a couple of new games.
(Much appreciate the tweaks to gameplay from the patch - particularly Cav and Lancer upgrades, the lack of which had irked me for a long time, and reducing the Maritime state ally bonus).
