what's the deal behind corrupting the security system to stop working?
Like in the previous System Shocks, you can upgrade RPG style, an ability to hack into machine interfaces. At low levels you can disable machines, security systems and defense robots. At higher levels you can not only disable the security system, but you can take over the defense robots and turrets! Its an optional skill path to learn in the previous game, as you could also become powerful with psyonics (Bioshock's plasmids will replace that), and powerful enough that you can capably destroy security defenses using "spells". Hopefully Bioshock will still focus on selecting unique skill development paths, as it really adds to the replay value to be able to play through the game in so many different ways.
hacking would make sense, but it's "activate (8 adams)" and "hack"
There is a difference, activate would just disable the security system if they were after you, hack would either shut it down to begin with, or turn off cameras, paint splicers as targets, that sort of thing
