Edit: Tried and found out myself. They do withdraw but it takes a short time (counting down).

Then three long bows for the cost of 150, resulting in 12 strength, is better than 2 phalanx (cost 150) with 10 strength?

One more thing, and this one might be a stupid question:

When defending, do only defense points matter?

I'm minister of defense in my nation and really don't know nothing about battles. There are two huge nations as in most games i guess. I'm in one of them, and the other now invaded us.

Any tips?...
