200 hammer city help

I'm trying to get the achievement and was wondering if it's more about luck of a map layout than where you start the city.

Right now I have the Americans and have one at 165, 189, and 173. All with factories, iron mines, the works. They have courthouses and I even managed nearby cities (that have been captured) to let the production cities use their hammer tiles. Communism is the government at the moment too

Is there anything else I can do to get those last few hammers besides start with a better map layout?

Yeah, use the production pre-set if you aren't already using it or manually put all your workers on production resources and put the rest in the city (don't work food or trade at all). If you still aren't there, research future technology. The first time you get it, it grants +1 production to every production resource, then tripled by your factory and +50% on top of that from communism. If you still aren't there, get future technology three more times. Every third one gets you an additional +1 production per production tile. Keep that up and all your cities will be over 200 hammers.

Cool, thank you! Yeah, I already managed those cities to only work on hammer tiles and nothing else. I'll have to go for future tech.

are you at 31 pop? if not you need to keep growing, or feed settlers in. or stay at your current number and hope for enough future tech. get nuclear power first too.

this part tends to be the best choice.

also, part of high prod comes from the map. there are a few maps with 7-8 mountains in courthouse range (or more in 1-2 map cases).

this is your best chance for a simple 200 hammer city.

I just did it with Greeks on Diety. Had to wait the game out until 1062 to get enough production from my best city. I think I had to get 4 future techs, be in communism and at 26 pop. Only had 2 hills and 3 mountains plus some trees. I had built everything except UN and WB, taken all AI out except 1 Russian Cap.

These achievements are fun, just need to get 5 more GPs, the 1000AD victory and win with all civs. Only played 5 games so far, each with a different civ. No saves and all Diety. Hoping to get them all by the time I use each civ once

yeah, it should be easy for you to get all of the achievements with just one pass through diety. I used the americans and got the culture/tech/prod achievements in one game.

Same for the pre-1000 AD achievement + 1 city + something else. (american horse rush ftw)

There is a scenario perfect for this, I forget the name, but the map is basically one large landmass with oceans along the borders, and there are mountains making a grid in the landmass with roughly 5 squares between grid lines.

In some of the tighter grid cells you can get the borders of your city to be on mountain squares on all 4 sides after adding a courthouse.

Done the run through with each civ, and still need 3 GPs

Got the 1000AD with Zulu and surprisingly late horserushes on Tripoli and Madrid, completed in 100AD.

Now going to have to play really long games with Romans to pop these GPs I suppose.
