I'm totally out of ideas here.

My Computer:
Athlon X2 4400
MSI Geforce 7800GTX
SB Audigy2
2 gigs of Ram
DSL internet connection with 220kb/s
1 DVD drive (LG)
1 DVD writer (LG)
160 GB Samsung SATA drive

Windows XP professional SP2
Bought the "UK" retail collectors edition. "UK" because it's actually the unrated German edition with a UK disc and German manuals.

I cannot believe that this problem has not been resolved yet! I paid for a game and it doesn't even have all the files on the disc. What exactly did I just pay for? 6Gb of uselessness?

Just let me install, activate and play already.

Smile Currupted patch fixed

I was able to fix this issue.
I'm running XP pro with SP2 in french and installing in english. Using an nvidia card and all.

I'm not sure -which- step fixed it but I cleared my temp files, I updated Direct X to latest version which is 10 now. Rebooted, closed antivirus (Kaspersky) and started install again.

Hope this helps people.

You mean the August 2007 dx9c update? DX10 cannot be installed on XP.

I've done my part buying the game twice, and throwing a few members here and there with help,as best I can.
I think Prey was developed by 2K, and that game took forever to get some patches. Not only that, the patches really didn't fix anything either. I'd say that 2K doesn't like to deal with their own work after releases.

Lightbulb

One thing I noticed here one guy was using kapersky as an antivirus and I thought hey I have this too so let me disable it and try to install again. I did and it installed perfectly I dont know why kapersky recognizes the Bioshock.exe to be a backdoor worm, maybe due to some weird copy protection activity, I will try to use a NO cd and see if it catches it again. but after I installed I turned on kapersky and ran a scan.. within minutes it poped up again, so I added it to the trusted zone and now Its running w/ no problems hope this helps!
