yeah, its just the rules specifically state that illustrator must be used. i'm wondering if irrational/2k really care, as long as illustrator supports the format? I may enter just for the fun of it (im not 18 yet, so i can't win a prize; but to see my work up there would be good, since i can draw freehand pretty good, or so my friends say)
EDIT: i can draw freehand with a pencil and eraser (for shadowing) well, but vector seems even easier for this genre of art (deco is very line/curve-based)

NOTE: The most important thing is that the image you submit is in VECTOR FORMAT with NO WORDS. That means no greyscale, etc.

Thanks!

ok, but my entry actually just works with different emboss levels. so if i send you my image, you won't see anything than a weird black space

edit: and I don't get your conclusion:

because there's no relationship between the format, no words and no grayscale. because the vector format as well as words support grayscale, blending, colors and so on. :S

different levels of embossing/debossing is fine, as long as the edges are crisp. it's shading (such as an illustration) that is a problem. as long as it is vector in nature with crisp lines -- i.e. you could etch the design into something -- it will be acceptable.

as for using illustrator -- you can use any program you desire. most entries are coming in as .eps or .ai, if you are looking for specific formats.

On the page that first announced this very cool contest. It said jpeg files. (and in the detailed rules it says illustrator) I think its a good idea to get both. As the jpeg is needed to show the "final look" and the illustrator file or vector file is needed to actually make it happen.

But I do have a question for you Elizabeth. My entry uses vector art (which I sent) for the embossed part. However I designed the rest of the box to be printed 4 color process. Working with the embossed part I think it'll create a cool effect. Is printing more "raster" orientated art something they would even be willing to consider? Anyway, I'm posting a pic of what I'm talking about so it makes sense.

Thanks again for this fun opportunity!

Default what the deuce

I don't even know where the hell to start...
I've been doing graphics for a long, long time...but I don't even know where to begin. It's extremely difficult in knowing there can be no text...
