uh i dont have a theory of who it could be, but i definitely know who i think it wont be:

i think its going to be someone new

For all we know, it could have been a random person they abducted, with no storyline at all before becoming.

I'd rather not guess who he is, as we'll feel stupid when we find out who he (or even SHE) is...

I definitely agree. It would seem cliché. I do expect Meltzer to find Rapture, though. Maybe he'll get his daughter back with the help of the mysterious prototype Big Daddy.

I think its James Millard Oakes.

Maybe you find Meltzer held up somewhere in Rapture, and he helps you along with Tenenbaum. He could have gotten there before the game start.
