Default GI News (Note from 2K Elizabeth: Rumor -- not real plot)

So I read some news about the GI article which I think is pretty solid. (mods, if you happen to know this is bullcrap then go ahead and lock) Just thought I'd post this since it seems pretty interesting.

Here is an alternative retelling of the Game Informer article that backs up some points and has a few other pieces of info.

"- Takes place 7 years after the original. The main character is Jake Abbott, a private investigator searching for one of the girls kidnapped by Big Sister.

- Two-player co-op is added.

- New enemies include spliced up dogs and bipedal robots, which like other mechanical enemies can be hacked to assist the player.

- Two of the new plasmids were revealed. One slows down time for a few seconds. The more interesting one is Telepathy, which you can use to eavesdrop on the thoughts of NPCs and gain information. For example, you can use Telepathy to uncover the combination to a keypad or gain insights into enemy weaknesses which translate into damage bonuses and new tonics.

- Epic boss battles and underwater gameplay. Much of Rapture is now flooded and you will need to don a diving suit to explore these areas as well as venture outside Rapture itself. An underwater boss fight was shown with a gigantic squid, which can cloak itself and use its massive tentacles to smash into Rapture and hurl debris. One of the concept artworks hinted at a boss battle with a mutated, spliced rhino in Rapture's zoo.

- Jake won't be the only one investigating Rapture. At some point in the story, Soviet agents arrive from a submarine, hoping to acquire Adam and use it to gain an advantage over the Americans in the Cold War. Soviet enemies will be much smarter than splicers, using cover and flanking maneuvers and working in groups. As the game progresses they will begin splicing themselves and be able to use plasmids against you. The Soviets and splicers will fight against each other and the player can use that to their advantage. "

I am starting to think this is real. Here are two other independent sources reporting on this.

Bioshock 2 Game Informer info.

-Jake Abbott is the main character
-Takes place 7 years after Bioshock 1
-Epic boat chase cutscene
-2 Player Co-op Play
-New enemies include Cold War Soviets, Giant Squid, Rhino, and dogs
-Under Water Exploration
-A Plasmid that slows down time and a Telepathy Plasmid that listens to enemy thoughts
-Big Sister replaces Big Daddies' role in last game
-Reworked Vita-Chamber system

and

From the April Issue
-You play as Jack Abbott
-Game takes place in 1967, 7 years after the original
-A cutscene starts the game off In New York City as Jack intercepts the Big Sister kidnapping his daughter in his beachhouse. He follows it to the near by shores as it submerges into the water.
-Mark chases the Big Sister with his boat, and follows the bright red light it makes underwater.
-Mark fires a gun at the Big Sister and pisses it off, causing it to wreck his boat, causing Mark to black out.
-Only one Big Sister (Mastermind of game)
-Big Daddies are no longer in the game, but new enemies include dogs, soviets and....SOVIETS!?!?.
-Comepletely new levels of Rapture, including a fully explorable zoo.
-Underwater exploration levels.
-Squid Boss battles
-New weapons and plasmids (Including a telepathy and time control)
-Challenge maps
-2 Player co-op. (No mention on who second player is)
-New Health and Revival System

I like everything mentioned except the Soviets, dogs, squids and lack of BIG Daddies.

Edit: Kyburz, could you link the info you posted? I know one is from the Gamespot forums, but wheres the other one from?

Well...I really don't know how to feel about this, honestly. I'm definitely going to miss Big Daddies and splicers, if all of this is true. And I'm not so sure I'm really keen on having Soviets and, erm, spliced dogs and robots in the game. I really wish this didn't seem to be drifting THAT far away from BioShock 1. Not so sure on the challenge rooms as I never got to play them (I own BioShock for the 360), either.

On the other hand, the boss battles actually, IMO, sound kind of epic. And having the Big Sister as our main antagonist is pretty interesting. Underwater diving stuff? Heck yes. The new plasmids also sound pretty neat as well and I think I'm kinda excited about a co-op mode.

Of course, if all of this is true. Unfortunately guys, NeoGAF is rarely ever wrong; they actually predicted the entirety of Super Smash Bros. Brawl's roster, for example, before it came out.

I wish we would get official confirmation of something. It's getting really confusing to decipher what is real and what isn't.

I like the bit about exploring the waters with diving apparatus and such but eh, I don't know...I didn't think "wow, amazing" when I read it. Dammit. I guess I'll just have to wait til it comes out.

Big Daddies and Spilcers couldn't go absent from the games entirety, could they? God I hope not, they're two of the most defining things from BioShock IMO. I do have to say, I'm interested in how they'll incorporate co-op (if this is all true).

Hoping it isn't real. I'm hoping that the Soviets and Spliced... Dogs and Robots aren't real, doesn't feel like BioShock to me. And no Big Daddies? The idea of underwater exploration sounds great though! Maybe squid battles.

We need verification, though!

That is pretty much exactly how I feel too.
