And I HARDLY EVER build regular legions. Veteran legions can win much more than half catapult armies, and they have got more defence. Catapults are harder to produce, they have got low defence, and you can't produce massive catapults armies.

That is simple.

And as I said, you could simply use few catapults armies plus legions armies, like 3 catapults armies + 7 legion armies.
I have produced massive numbers of catapult armies before. You will also lose a lot more legion armies that catapult armies when attacking defended cities.

i agree, because the cats have double the force, and just bring in like 2 defensive armies, and your set.

So you still can't understand how it works.

HGB, if you were right, you should have won much more games, I think.

My thought exactly on bringing along defensive armies.

I was playing a game as Americans using Mort's no barracks for America strategy and his Legion strategy. When I attacked a city with 10 legion Armies and an Archer Army I did take the city, but at heavy loses. I lost 5 Legion armies to defeat 2 Archer armies, I also had to clean up an individual archer & two horsemen. I needed to even send in my archer Army to finish the victory.

I had already swithched to Catapult Armies, and attacked the next city with those and only lost 1 catapult army against a similarily defended city.

well it is better, but i have a different war style, i only attack in a formally way, i send everything in veteran, adequate numbers like 4-5 attackers with 2 defenders, and at times i attack at 2-locations the same turn, to try to make him nervous, because he might even expect another surprise attack i like 2-3 turns..

i do all my by carrying my units on a naval unit, i dont like the land thing with knights... they can obvisouly see it, and they have atleast some turns to react, as well as completling the tech with a great scientist, i dont like to give clues im going to kill them... unless its like super early i wont. but i like catapults the most, they can even get them when they have pikemen, and if i have cruisers maybe even riflemen.

You are right Catapult armies can beat a pikeman armies defending a city, Legion Armies will get quickly destroyed and allow your oppenet to get a whole lot of upgrades in the process. I like using vetern units too, but in a seperate thread Morte & a whole lot of other people told me With Americans building a barracks is a total waste of time, so I was putting their theory to the test.

I also like the naval idea

well.... to tell you the truth it does "Waste time" builder you get instant warriors.. so you waste no time on building them

scientists, you save lots of turns on expanding..and etc..

leaders arent bad, i always want one, that would mean my pikemen can destroy tanks now.. or my catapults riflemen. but i dont play much as americans.. im more of a french/indian player the 2 last civs that no one would bother using..

That's the argument I got from several people that with americans you just want to build tons of units and overwhelm with numbers, basically quantity over quality. That's why so many people hate GL with americans I guess.

i like quality

i used to be like you, i would try to argue one point, and like 5 ppl would disagree..Morte being the head of the pack!!!

not like i said France is the best lol but..

quantity has been the tradition of the americans for many years now.. there 1/3 rush cost effect is super powerful... for every orange you get the americans get 3, imagine that with any unit!!!!

I like quality because your not continually losing armies to overwhelm a city. take the game I've been discussing I lost 5 legion armies to defeat 2 archer armies. Your much better off if you still had some of those armies to attack the next city.

I usually play longer games that involve Tanks, Artillery, Planes & modern ships. Most people here think your doing something wrong if you game lasts until you can research artillery. You should have won quicker is the typical response.
