Hi. I just installed bioshock, but i cant get it to work. Everything seems to be working fine when i start the game, I press "new game" and some kind of intro movie starts, when the movieclip ends, my screen turns black and Windows tells me that the program isnt working and needs to shut down.
My laptop is brand new, so i dont think the drivers are outdated, but i did download a new driver to my GPU just to be sure.
Ive got 2gb ram, a GeForce 8600M GT GPU (256mb dedicated memory) and a Intel centrino duo 2,2 GHz CPU. Im running windows vista business 32bit.
Does anyone know what the problem might be? ive tried to reinstall the game, restart the computer and some other basic stuff. Ive heard someone talking about turning of aero in windows vista. Im new to windows vista so i dont know what aero is. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this?
if there is a simmilar thread out there somewhere ide be happy to get a link.
thx :)

The Nvidia drivers will not load on a laptop. You have to get the video drivers for a laptop from the manufacturer of the laptop. If their drivers are current. The HP driver download will not fix the Bioshock problem. An earlier post said to go to laptop2go and get the drivers for your laptop. I did that and the game finally worked.

The web site for laptop video drivers should be laptopvideo2go.com

double click on the driver file you downloaded. that will start the unzip program. it will create a new file where you saved the origional download. after the unzip is finished drag the modded inf into the new file. after that open the new driver file and look for the install program. that should do the rest of the install automaticly.

The driver is compatible with Desktop graphics cards not for the Laptop graphics cards.
For this reason, the desktop Forceware display drivers which are available on nvidias website will not work on notebooks. You will have to either contact your Laptop manufacturer or you will need to visit the website of your laptop manufacturer for the display drivers of your notebook.
The only problem is that the drivers on your manufacturer's website wont fix your problem. Therefore u will have to download the driver from laptopvideo2go where they have modified it or something to make it work on laptops. This is what you do:
Download the driver and the modded .INF file
Windows Vista 32-bit (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14562)
Window XP 32-bit (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14560)
Then just follow this walkthrough on how to install the driver:
Windows XP Users (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33)
Windows Vista Users (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997)
