I'm probably not the only one who recognizes this but did the Game Informer issue about bioshock about 9 months ago to a year make it sound like a much better title than the game released. I read about AI that considered you threat or non threat then proceeded to attack or help you or ignore you and what not.
Never made it into the final cut of the game and the closest thing is the big daddies who you have to kill anyway. So I guess my question is where does 2k games not pay for the crime of releasing a game without the features promised in it.
A decade ago game companies lives depended on every feature they promised or they would go bankrupt like SW: dark forces... first fps with a jump function... they would have gone bankrupt if they didn't implement it into the game. Yadda yadda I know but when is 2k gonna pay for releasing bioshock early but also with the number of installs not printed on the box a soundtrack in the special edition with 3 songs and then an online album with 12. Would it have killed them to put 15 on the real soundtrack.
Just little stupid things that make ya wonder if take two interactive is rolling over dead in its grave cause they know. "We let 2k games put this out early". Granted the solution of putting a fatal error in the game til its finished comes to mind its not the best way to do it but you know some poor shmuck at take two considered it before bioshock was realeased.

don't let this guy anywhere near peter molyneux if that's his response to a few promised features going mia!
and that's basically my take on bioshock as a whole...like fable, it was supposed to be super revolutionary with all kinds of new and amazing stuff but in the end it ended up being a really good game, but not much more.

They're all old games back when games were more an art then a commodity, had no anti-piracy measures, weren't dumbed-down for mainstream sales and didn't require or even demand super-high graphics, and yet still made loads of money?

I admit it not the best post in the world and I agree its a good game... but it was supposed to be revolutionary not just a good game. Good games are good but revolutionary games are awesome and groundbreaking. Like Half-Life 2 look what it did for PC gaming in general. Frankly thats what I expected of Bioshock and yes i like the game but I'm also disapointed.
Until today i had no idea there was even a limit to the installs on your PC. Which BTW pisses me off. So that wasn't even part of my original point.

A good one for sure, Black and White and Fable are both on my list for fulfilling all my wildest dreams.
If Peter Molyneux hadn't been involved in Dungeon Keeper I swear...

No one promised anything. Just because you saw it in a magazine does not make it written in stone. Also features change from beginning to shipping of a title. Yes it is sad a lot of those cool features did not make it into the game. However it's still a great game..

Like Half-Life 2 look what it did for PC gaming in general.
you mean what it did for gaming as a whole. console gamers dont realize the sheer awesomeness PC gamers were playing nearly 2 years before them...its too bad things arent like that now...theres very very few games that are PC exclusive anymore...every publisher bends down and takes it in the ass when M$ starts waving their money around. As sad as it is devs teams like irrational and valve are on that list.

Reading that makes me wonder if you ever played Half-Life (the original), because HL-2 is not revolutionary in any way shape or form Yes it has an unbelievably well implemented game engine, but the game itself was relatively uninspired. When Half-Life came out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life
it truly revolutionized the genre; but the sequel really wasn't all that. The only time that game engaged me was toward the end when you enter the Citadel --and that section of the game is pretty much one script after another, so more movie than game.
BioShock doesn't break any new ground (as far as I can tell: I have to admit that I am still wandering around Medical looking for the Telekinesis plasmid!). but that doesn't detract from the fact that what it does it does extremely well. The integration of story, art, music and technology is a wonderful addition to the gaming world. Ultimately it the whole package that makes a game, not just a Gravity Gun!

Did I say gravity gun? No, and yes I played HL and no you can't cite wikipedia douche it cites 9000 other random places for information. However I can tell you that the havok physics engine that was made and tailored for and to half life 2 has revolutionized gaming because PRIOR to HL 2 there really was no awesome engine out there that said to everyone in the world. "Hey do whatever the **** you want with randomly placed items".
Furthermore current titles under development with a high budget are spending money just for the rights to use the havok physics engines in their game cause they want realism.
Two years from now developers will be trying to get a hold of Quantic Dream's "Casting" Technology for even shooters because the performance derived from it makes game characters look realistic beyond anything else in the industry right now. Don't believe me look up the title heavy rain and the fact they are trying to overcome the Uncanny Valley theory. Don't know what that is? I guess I know more about my future titles.
Oh and use fire to melt the ice in medical... have fun with rest of said scripted game that runs a 10 minute script to repopulate enemies and so on.

Not all features being mentioned in previews make it into the game(s), come release day. Some things like the enemies' AI considering you to be a threat or non threat, or even help you, could have been cut - simply because they
were way too hard to make right (implement correctly) into the game.

Its not anywhere near as bad as Fable, Ai is hard to implement Oblivion Promised the same just like the teleport plasmid.
Ai in games is all just good or bad script anyway. And when you think about gunshots its likely that most splicers are used to it with all the Leadheads around. And if you look at the interview with Ken he talks about doin what people would expect.

One small thing that bothers me is that Ken said everything in the enviroment reacts physically as it would in real life. This is pretty much true with fire and electricity but it seems winter blast was over looked. Why can't I freeze a pool of water and laugh as splicers slide and tumble around on it...why can't I freeze leaks in the walls to prevent water from rushing in...and why doesn't winter blast put out fires? Other than that I am completely happy with the game, I was just really looking foward to turning the game into an icey paradise...oh well.

freatures talked about months before release is nothing new..is it a little dissapointing? yeah sometimes (fable) but its a reality...not a real serious issue..2K Boston (whom i shall always think of as Irrational) are a solid company who continue to release solid games

You sure it was not Game Informer that lied?
The Big Daddies were very interactive behaving in a number of ways that you don't see in many game characters. Sometimes its fun to just watch them interact with the little sisters.
I feel silly because I keep saying this on other threads but it really is true, you are spoilt for choice in combat and there are plenty of hidden recordings, rooms, items to find all over the place.

lol If this was true, Peter Molyneux would've been fired and Fable 2 would not have been put in to development. Remember all the promises made with Fable? Growing trees, free-roaming world.... not an ounce of that was in the final cut.

First of all, name one developer that has actually delivered on EVERYTHING promised?
Second, could you provide this article? I seem to remember reading a Game Informer article that only mentioned the Big Daddies in reference to those that would view you as a threat or a non threat.

Yes, lets not forget EPIC providing a certain demo showing a certain Brumak fight that never made it into the actual release, which was added into the PC version coming this NOV.

The teleport plasmid comes to mind. I have heard numerous times that it was cut out because it started causing a lot of problems in the game.
If a company has to take something out then I have no problem with that.
