I've had to reinstall Bioshock as AVG has detected Bioshock.exe as a virus i.e Obfustat.nl or objustat.jxr. Everytime I reinstall and it downloads the patch it just says bioshock patch file has an invalid signature and tries again and again and again.
Does anyone know the problem/cause?

Ah seems others have problems as below, this is the buggiest game I have ever bought. I'm sick to the back teeth of trying to resolve these constant problems, sound problems, crashes, viruses, authentification problems. Never again 2K:mad:

Happening to someone else, as well:

And me, too.

It is very highly unlikely that your BioShock DVD contains a virus. Because of the online activation, the setup program has networking capabilities embeded in it that contact 2K's servers to complete setup. This is more than likely what's triggering the "virus alert" in AVG. Simply disabling AVG while you install and activate the game should remedy the problem.

Avast and Bioshock are working beatifully together, so far.
Uninstall AVG, reboot, install Bioshock, install Avast free, reboot. Everything is running fine now.
I am using AVG and Bioshock, no problems here what so ever with loading, nor playing the game.

I think that this is a false positive from AVG, make sure that your virus definitons are up to date and you should not see the error.

Having exactly this issue.
AVG mis-detecting bioshock.exe as a objustat.jxr trojan... I clicked ignore and it broke bioshock anyway!
Anyone know how to get the .exe working again (other than the nightmare of DRM re-install)?

don't click ignore, ignore and uninstall avg. It's not just an installation issue, neil, this happened right after avg. self updated when I logged on, I lost my game, cause ist I clicked ignore and it was still raising alarms and the next thing I know the execute is broken and I can't copy my execute from my xp install cause vista won't let it in the bioshock folder.(don't know about xp)

I have AVG and didn't have that problem...
ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR ANTIVIRUS (sorry) before installing a game!
Thanks 2k for making that great game! This game make me love my PC and gaming on it... Really!

It's the latest update that screws it.
So, uh anyone figure out how to un-screw your game after this happens?

Yes, I posted it earlier in this thread. and on 3 other threads. This needs to be stickied or something, it's an easy fix albeit a pain in the ****ing arse.

You said uninstall AVG and install Avast. That only helps if your bioshock.exe hasn't already been screwed by the virus scanner. People need to know how to un-screw the exe once it's already been messed up.

Hi guys. A quick update on my progress. I got my Bioshock working (it was broken by avg) without uninstalling/re-installing anything.
It appears that the "Resident Shield" heuristic detection in AVG is to blame for the locked/broken bioshock.exe files and the false positive detection of objustat.jxr trojan.
So, I went into AVG (after ensuring that I was disconnected from my networked PCs/Internet connection) and switched it off... (RIGHT CLICK RESIGENT SHIELD IN AVG - SELECT PROPERTIES - UNTICK "TURN ON RESIDENT SHIELD PROTECTION").
Bioshock starts working again. Just remember to re-enable this before you connect to networks or browse the net again!!
A quick fix. Not ideal, I know, but I hope this helps someone.

Crap, AVG just updated itself and wiped out my BioShock as well. I tried to restore it and it got creamed again. I'm not interested in uninstalling my anti-virus software, so I'm going to have to find another solution. Grr.

I know of 4 people that did that and had it work, whereas before that uninstalling AVG,Bioshock would not run/dl the 'patch' (Securom update likely)
Not too sure why people would be running an anti virus proggy while gaming in the first place..

I think I'll try your suggestion, Guartrainer, although I guess I won't be able to get the patch now.

QFT! Absolutely! Could a registered AVG user take this up? They don't give techinical support to the freebie home users apparently!

Somehow, uninstalling AVG seems to help this problem. As I have told you in the linked thread (post # 12) I, too, have had the problem. It went away after uninstalling AVG.
Avast etc. still works fine with AVG.
I do believe that AVG is aware of the problem...

Just for the record, this worked perfectly for me. It's an easy toggle on and off for when I want to play BioShock (until AVG gets its act together). Much simpler than uninstalling. Thanks, man.

Same here, updated and detected, now the game is broke. I dont even know if my key was returned after uninstall...
Most programs do not raise alarms with AVG. In fact AVG been known to work with secure network softwares that other major software can't handle. This isn't a Bioshock issue as much as it's a SecuROM issue.
In another thread I suggest that a update patch area be created so the user can patch the game for themselves. In fact if a way to get the patch is to re-enter your CD key for the patch area then so be it. That plus a check of the DVD while dling will ensure that your copy has been bought and paid for.
It's a very good game but there is so very poor administrative decisions.
This is poor customer support.
