Do you think you will start off in a plane? It might show you sitting down inside of it From First person view, You could look about inside of the plane for a little while, Until The Pilot or someone then warns all of the passengers to Put on their Seatbelts, Then the Plane goes down into the Sea, You Surface to the top of the Water and then ofcourse, You get Sucked down into Rapture...What do you think? Think something like that will happen at the beginning of the game?

hmm i thought of it too some time ago... if IG would make the plane crash in first person without a cutscene it would look damn good :) i wonder how the player gets into rapture without drowning...

My personal idea is that the crash itself is a passive ingame cutscene. After the crash you will have the control and maybe swim around a bit at the crashing spot on the sea. You find some boxes (driftwood) left of the plane and find some items, before you enter the bathysphere.

yeah, an intro like half-life would be kind of cool

If it was really cinematic I guess you might even see the protagonist in his day to day life before he even gets on the plane.
Maybe his day-to-day life is on a plane ;)

well from what i have seen from the E3 trailer i think it was, your plane crashes and it looked like it was a cutscene then you look to your left and there is a lighthouse not to far away(entrance to rapture)

True, but it would be nice to have a good intro sequence from both an interactive as well as cinematic perspective.
The idea of a crash as either an in-game or FMV sequence, followed by a small interactive part of messing around with the phyics and finding the bathysphere, followed by sort of an intro FMV to the city of Rapture is quite nice, as it presents the player with an interactive and cinematic intro sequence which probably won't take too long to complete.
Unless the player immediately meets some of the "fish" that are seen in the movie with the narrator talking about the creation of Rapture, of course.

FMV FTL. No thank you.
Interactive Scripted Sequences would be a much better way to go, IMO. The HL series does it well; you are Gordon, start to finish, even when you have no control over the situation. There is no FMV, no 3rd person cutscenes, and no voice saying things you wouldn't.
His experience is exactly the same as yours. Since Bioshock want to put us into Rapture, I'm hoping they will do the same. Any time you're not in control of the character (as opposed to the situation) it would break that imersion -that's someone else there, that's not me- and ruin the entire effect they're going for.

I always imagined the plane will be a small personal plane, like a Cessna 152 or something that only holds 4 people or so. I mean, if it were a jumbo jet in 1960, flying over the ocean was expensive and pretty rare for them (plus there would have been a search party dispatched). So it makes more sense that itwould be a small personal plane instead of a passenger liner. Survivors in a jumbo jet should be more than just you alone -- another reason I would think a small plane makes a little more sense.

its probably a small plane, along the lines of a charter flight

*william shatner voice* Oh-MY GOD...there IS... someTHING on the wing...
I do wonder how the plane goes down and how it conveniently drops near Rapture. Could just be a good old case of Video game logic. And that would be fine by me.

I'd guess from the wreachage in the second trailer that it was a meduim-small size plane, you can see what I think is the fuelage sinking and then what looks like it may be a wing.
the pilot was probably blinded by the lighthouse, which leads to the question of why Ryan built the lighthouse. "Ok, this place is secret so lets build a fancy art deco lighthouse above it that surely wont be investigated by anyone who sees it. I mean, there are all kinds of lighthouses in the middle of the ocean so who would be interested in this one?"

My thoughts exactly. A bouy, which was the original idea, would have made more sense in that regard.
That would raise the question though: where does the bathysphere go?

Yeah, I think you nailed it. All cutscenes even the decent into the sphere I'll bet. It also looked like a very small air craft that you were in. Someone said a small 4-seater and it most likely is.
As far as having the light house out in the middle of the ocean, if it's not on a major shipping lane, no one would ever find it with out the coordinates. And that also makes the most sense for people coming to Rapture. A transport ship/air craft takes you to coordinates x,y and is guided in by the lighthouse to then drop off the new arrivals. It may function as a kind of air-duct system as well.
All the ocean/lighthouse shots in that trailer were realtime, so I'm guessing that part at least will definitely not be a cutscene. I think there won't be any at all throughout the entire game, to be honest.

well I think it is going to be were it is still in first person but you dont have control until you get into the lighthouse
I got a screen from IG where the game begins (you might notice the similarity to the first trailer):

Normally, I don't spoil a whole game, but...
the game starts on a ship. you see a corpse and you pull her onto your boat. she isn't really dead, because she is filled with something she calls "plasmits". on the way back to the next port she tells you a story about a man she observed in a underwater city called Rapture...

How about, you're on your way to a wedding reception with a couple of friends and just about to enter the hall when an old man with a long gray beard and glittering eye grabs your arm and says "There was a ship..."
You try to protest, but the old man's countenance is such that you're compelled to listen to his tale— a tale of the sea, and a man named Andrew Ryan, who may or may not have shot an Albatross.
On a more serious note, there's a wikipedia entry for BioShock that states that the game starts off with no cut scene
(Some spoilers below)
The game starts with the player underwater following a plane crash in the ocean, surrounded by debris. No introductory cut scene is displayed explaining how this happened, leaving the player to decide for themselves why they were on the plane. Nearby, a lighthouse is sticking out of the water, in the middle of the ocean. Upon getting inside and traversing the internal stairwell, the player finds a bathysphere, with a corpse inside. Upon removing the corpse and descending in the bathysphere (having nowhere else to go), the player eventually reaches an underwater city on the ocean floor.

I'm not sure how accurate the information is and I'm guessing it could easily change.
I'd imagine rather than nothing there'll probably be some kind of establishing shot, maybe what we see in the trailer, followed immediately by the plane crash.
...
why do you post some speculations when I posted the real stuff before?:p

I am pretty sure, and I hope, you are not the only survivor, it is one of the biggest cliquas of this time. I hope that you are on your own personal plane, your a pilot.
