BioShock 2 is just a figure of speech to these guys, they throw that around pretty lightly because we all hope for a BioShock 2...whether or not it will come to fruition is a whole debate in itself. Really depends on how well it sells.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

I've been keeping this a secret for a while, but I just can't bite my tongue any longer.

According to my sources, not only is Bioshock 2 already in the planning stage, but it actually has a name: Polarshock. You start out as the sole survivor of a crippled submarine. As you jump from the conning tower of the sinking sub to a nearby ice floe, you see in the distance what appears to be a great expanse of solid, snow-covered ground and lights suggesting a human habitation.

When you approach, you discover a gargantuan structure surrounded by numerous outbuildings, all constructed in the quaint traditional architecture of the Bavarian Alps. As the game proceeds, you discover this remote society was constructed by a man on a mission: to classify all the people of Earth as either "naughty" or "nice", and to reward or punish them accordingly. As you might think, the player's own morality will come into question and will affect the course of the game.

My sources know little else at this point, but the current plan includes nine big bosses (at least one of which glows with a red light when provoked), and a large population of mutants armed with a variety of deadly tools and sharp-pointed shoes.

I donno... What if Bioshock is one of those games that is so good, that it would just be offensive to make a sequel. Like a sequel to 300, fantastic movie, but a sequel would probably ruin it. Now, if the sequel of Bioshock could be great, then I would welcome it, but for now, I would need get Bioshock and see the ending, if its ended perfectly I would be confused to how good the sequel could compare to the amazing orginal.

I think Irrational are being wise by taking their opportunity when they have it. It's not often you get backed by a huge publisher, and it's especially a blessing for Irrational, and this is the best time for them to flesh out all their creative dreams. We've seen a few mentions of the sequel here and in that EGM article, even if in a half-joking comment, but always in the context of features that would would make the BioShock even better but just could not be included in the game for whatever reason. It makes perfect sense for them to be planning ahead. After all, we had no inkling of BioShock until production was well underway, and that was before their relationship with 2K.

I know, but they could always try to make a movie where they finish the battle cut off at the end of 300, but your right, Ocean's 12 is a much better example of what I was talking about.

In context of the article, I'd say the meaning is fairly clear: if BioShock is a success enough to warrant a sequel, said sequel will be a Dx10 title (which will make things like ice melting into pools of water a lot more viable), and it'll likely have some kind of multiplay.

I beleive this is to run on DX9 and DX10 as well. It's primarily a DX10 game but if I recall correctly when this was mentioned they added almost as an after thought "but there will be a DX9 version as well".

And as for the multiplayer, if they were to make a seperate game at a later date instead of drawing from the singleplayers quality, I'd be happy with that. This game does have an astounding mp potential, but at the moment, I'm happy the way things are going with all this concerntrated work on the singleplayer.

Yeah as far as I know, BioShock (the first one, lol), will be DX10 compatible right out of the box. I don't think they put so much development time into the special little things about it (such as ice melting into pools), but more or less worked with the more advanced shaders. The capabilities are there, but it really depends on how much development time is going to be put into them.
Also, one has to consider an effect like that example discussed actually being a gameplay advantage that the DX9 users would have to live without. Because consider the ice melting into a pool, one can now use that pool to conduct electricity and shock an oncoming enemy. Just a thought...

Like a sequel to 300

what? '600'?

EDIT: from my time here i've come to believe that bioshock is not primarily a DX10 game, but will be quite able to utilize the DX10 path if the card allows it.
