Will this game feature anti-aliasing on the PC? Maybe I haven't looked carefully enough, but it seems to me that all the screenshots have jaggies in them.

It all depends on the use of HDR. But I don't think it will be avalaible.

Wha?

I seriously doubt that it would be unavailable.

It wasn't avalaible in R6: Vegas either if I remember correctly. It has to do something with UE3's use of HDR lighting. But I'm not sure.

I really hope they're going to implement it: visually, it brings the experience to a whole better level. I asked this mostly because I would like to avoid what happened to Gothic 3. Beside other problems, because of time constraints they had to leave out Antialias; while the game is quite good looking, it would be even prettier with that feature on.

Furthermore, in theory, jaggies are more noticeable with interiors, where you have furniture and suchlike, and Bioshock will have plenty of them :).

HDR and AA can be enabled together (see Oblivion as an example) assuming you have a high-end videocard, ATI (1900) or Nvidia (8800 but maybe 7900 as well?). Yes, it may be not for everyone, but the feature should be there for those who can activate both. Otherwise, go with Bloom.

i'm sure BioShock will have AA... but you will have to deactivate something else to activate it.

I think games with UE3 look great without AA. Anyway, my 6600GT is not a great card, so I couldn't care less about this feature. :D

Yup. Though HDR+AA support started with the x1800 series, not x1900 iirc :)

(edit: And nope, first Nvidia card to support both was the 8800)

That's why I'd be shocked if you couldn't enable it. Fair enough if HDR is forced and you have an old video card (though that's a pretty crazy choice by the devs if so) but on a reasonably modern card, I'd expect to be able to do both.

I think you're somewhat right: Sigil is having trouble implementing it on Vanguard as well, and that's an UE3 game too.

Just had a very quick google re it and it seems that it's working on ATI cards and not nvidia at the moment (or at least initially). Odd. I'm sure it's something that'll be sorted out fairly soon though - either via a driver update for 8800 or an engine update.

After all, both the UE3 engine and 8800s are reasonably newish.

I agree,I very much expect it will be available and will work perfectly with HDR if that is an option as well.

Most games that let you use HDR+AA on older cards aren't using full precision AA. An example of this would be Half Life 2 and other source-derived games.

That said, they still look damn nice :)

I personally think you'll be pushing your luck at that res and AA setting on a 6800GT. At least with everything else turned up high. I guess time will tell and all that, but it's clearly going to be quite a demanding game when you've got all the eye candy turned on.

Good choice :)

I've been very happy with my upgrade to the same model. I'm yet to try out Oblivion again since upgrading (for both Oblivion and Morrowind, I don't think I could really get over the fact that they weren't just Daggerfall with better graphics and hence didn't really enjoy them as much as I could have) but I'm quite looking forward to seeing it running with all the 'purdy' fan-made graphics upgrades.

I guess I just need to get some time to actually play some computer games...

640MB on a graphics card? That's almost my system RAM.

*cries*

It's kind of depressing really. On the other hand, with Vista and the like we'll soon all be wanting 4GB of ram for our PCs so we'll be back to the 1:4 ratio. Woo....excitement.

Or something :)
