I can't remember who said it, but it worked beautifully for me. The game is running completely flawless since I did that. If you can get to the main menu disable high detail shaders.

aye, i heard that....but it still crashed for me and here are my specs:

Quad Core
4 g RAM

Does it have a big impact on the graphics image quality?
It might be asking for too much, but could you take two comparison screenshots so that we can see the difference between having it on or off? that would be great :)
And also, how much extra performance/fps did you get and/or did it reduce mouse lag if you had any?

There is a difference but its not like "ohmygawd" huge
But I heard of only two people that its worked for. Give it a shot, it may work for you.

Dude I've been trying that same "fix" since the demo was released, it doesn't help me at all in the full release either.
Works for some and not for others.

Before using this fix, the game crashed every time I entered Rapture. After enabling the fix, I have had zero crashes.

I should mention, that I DID make sure I'm updated to all of the latest patch levels, and am using the nVidia beta Bioshock driver.

yeah it worked for me as well, maybe its a conflict with the shaders and nvidia drivers
x2 athlon 4400
2 gig ram
7800gt SLI
XP
in the demo i noticed quite a difference graphical wise so would rather have them turned on
