Will there be a level editor for BioShock that will let fans make their own levels?
This is something we are looking into – Irrational has enjoyed great relationships with the mod community on previous titles like FF and SWAT. At this time, we don’t have a definitive answer.
that's from the Cult of Rapture COMMUNITY Q&A 2 (http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/qa2.htm)...

I would be really surprised (and sad) if they don't release one around the game's release date. :)
I think, there's no reason not to release a leveleditor/SDK mainly because BS ( what an abbreviation :D) uses UE3 which will has a huge MOD community. Also the UE3 middleware is very powerfull and enduser-oriented.

Any news on this? To me, a confirmed SDK is the difference between preorder and a wait-and-see approach.

I had the same thoughts about VtM Bloodlines and the Source engine. We should not take it for granted.
If there's anything that needed a petition, this would be it.

Yeah, I can imagine doing some pretty sweet things on the Mod side. :)

ive noticed that mods make a game last longer, and playing new mods never gets old. look at Doom for instance, they've made billions of mods for it.

Indeed, my most played game, Desert Combat, is actaully a mod for Battlefield 1942. In fact, it's the reason I bought it, as WW2 shooters don't really interest me all that much.
Black Mesa (HL2), First Stike (BF2142), and the HDTP (Deus Ex) are some of the upcoming mods that make me glad I kept those games, and I enjoy (and thus replay) SS2 a lot more as I'm not staring at crude low-poly models. :)
