Hey all,
It's getting rather late in the day for fanflick production before the game release date. Who else is cramming those clips for a final post? What vids are left to exploit ( apart from the euro game review clips (Russian?))? Where are my pants and will I need another Pc if my girlfriend discovers Second Life TM?

...The next step, who would record their level progress to taylor a vid about a hot topic? Global Warming or Rising Damp spring to mind.

For my last Vid, I'm planning to lampoon the Original Promo, with some football commentors soundbytes running in the background "He's Really got him now Jim...Suprise! Ooooh that's gotta hurt - let's see that again.."

Flamers act now! To wring the last bit of hurtie out of these vids before the release and protect the atmosphere and anticipation we've all worked on? Or defuse it some and redirect creativity?

Lampooning the original trailer (Big Daddy Vs Human Guy) stroke of comedy genius m8...im chuckling just thinkin about it. "Yes Jim were gathered here today in what looks to be a monumental battle"
"ohh he`s goin for the little sister, but...ooohh he takes a drill to the face, thats gotta leave a mark in the morning" etc.
It has to be done.:p

Here's what it looks like so far. My favorite part about it is the baseball glove which I cut up, and covered with tape. Like I'll have time for sports when bioshock comes out. Ha!

Oh, if you're curious, that's a granola bar box. I went around the house looking for cardboard, and took anything I could find. My whole room is full of it now. sometimes it spills out the doorway.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y6/shrubs/bioshock001.jpg

It's shaped like a garbage can, and has very little resemblance to the drill armed Big Daddy. Oh well.

I'll post more pictures once it's completely done. Enjoy. :'D

Speechless? Yes, I know. Just take it all in. A real master piece is it not? Oh ho.

I'm seriously considering making another suit, possibly modeled after a different Big Daddy. Kinda messed this one up, since I wasn't too familiar with constructing with cardboard.

I've been a fan of Bioshock already, even when it was a different game alltogether, and I go back to the first System Shock. I always knew this would be an awesome game, and even though I usually don't draw fanart, I was quite motivated to do some for Bioshock.

It ain't done yet, still a sketch.
It will be finished to shiny, colored goodness soon.
(I flipped the image, that is why his drill is on the wrong side, that will be fixed.)

(No quoting pictures)

NICE! Totally awesome, dude. Nice work.

I've just started working on a picture that showcases me about to use Electro-Bolt on my dog/hamster hybrid, Marcus. I'm working in GIMP 2, which takes some time to figure out, so it's not quite done yet, but I will follow up on its progress here in this thread.

Here's what I've got so far:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/11697805@N03/1163150093/

Currently I'm attempting to get a partial-opacity gradient into the borders between the shock marks on the hand. I think the best thing I've done here is the "static" shocks between fingers and thumb, but then again those are pretty easy. If you have any tips that would help me here, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks!:D

Dude that's great, you've really gotten into character there, might be hard to control the mouse with that drill arm but hey, projection is the key to a great game.

Seriously, cool costume.

Not strictly BioShock, but I felt like bringing another of the Shock games into the Art Deco, paleo-future style. I'll probably tinker with this more as time goes on, but the idea is a brass plate or stenciled logo that you'd find on the doors of a cruise ship.

Wow. Also very good, but kind of strange. The Little Sister looks something older, like almost 14... instead of 6. :) I've made some pencil sketches of my own, and I think I'm going to go to Office Max or something and get them scanned so I can post them.

The limited edition of the bioshock faceplate isn't hard to find on ebay but I wouldn't want to spend 100 bucks on it, so i made my own by using faceplate 360 from Nyko. You can find this kit at most electronic stores, Best buy, gamestop, circuit city, etc. So i made my own faceplate on photoshop, printed it out and slapped it on there. It doesn't look as good as the official faceplate, but it will definitely suffice. Here it is :

I don't know if you read my liitle bit of text before the image but you have to buy this kit for like 15 buks at the store and it come with 15 printable x box templates and two faceplates, one silver and one clear. You put the printed sheet in between the two faceplates and then stick it on the xbox.http://www.nyko.com/Img/Nyko/Products/GameFace360Diagram.jpg

Thanks for the feedback man

Yea i was juggling the idea of whether or not to start the music after the speech was over, but i wanted the hyped part of the music to kick in right when the action started as the camera zoomed into the man's head so it would feel more...cinematic i guess.

But thanks for watching!

Think they need some kind of framing.. Other than that, excellent! Love the name in the correct font.

Heres something I drew with a design pad (one of those pads you use a pen with instead of a mouse) I found in a cupboard and thought I'd mess around with. First thing I ever did with it. Done in Photoshop CS2.

Btw, that's awesome. All the clips you used there outside of Bioshock trailer footage were really well suited. Very nicely done.

On the cult of rapture website there was a cult member perks thing where they had those little sister t-shirt, I really wanted one but I don't think i can get it anymore so i went to a custom tshirt website and made my own using the image here it is if you want to buy one. Don't know if this is legal or would count as copyright/trademark infringement but i really wanted one. http://www.zazzle.com/product/235675150423086430

I have no idea that's the problem. But I don't think they'd make a big fuss about it anyway.

This is my next one. A collage wallpaper, consisting of many little motives, which are supposed to fit to Rapture. Its like a welcome envelope someone gets, before moving to Rapture. I tried to arrange several items, which should fit to that timeline, like the newspaper from 1957. Official IG content is inside too, like the "Welcome to Rapture" and the Kashmir restaurant advert taken from the official site.

Original Image size (1280x1024) here (http://mitglied.lycos.de/merdna/Invitation.jpg):

This would make a decent poster.

yes m8, Milliput, I love the Milliput, don't know where I'd be without it :-)

i used to buy it by the crate...gods gift to the model maker.
i reckon they owe me shares as to all the UK hobby shops i told about it.

for some cursed reason i developed an allergy to it,and never found anything that did the job as well.

with all the licking of fingers, how much do you reckon you have ingested over the years :D

ps...that facia is stunning,

but if your open to tips...have you tried latex moulding some fridge magnet letters and milliputting them for crisp edged lettering on your work ?
maybe make a few plaster ones and hand carve them and then remould ?

sorry...just me being nose pokey

Hmmm, fridge magnets...sounds like a good idea to me, I never thought about that I will give it a go next project. I have used milliput to create casts of things on my Alien vs predator case mod though, it worked really well. After pressing the object into a piece of milliput (in this instance an alien egg) wait for the cast to dry, then shake some talc into the mould. Press some milliput into the cast and it should come out an exact replica of the object. I did loads of skulls this way too.
I know what you mean about it though, it can be a bit messy and can dry your skin out if used over a prolonged period but like you said nothing else really does as good a job. Maybe I can get free shares in the company? lol.

Hi guys,

I have found a rendered art of the big daddy on GameSpot. Then I decided to give it an artistic touch using my pen tablet board.

http://m1.freeshare.us/170fs387053.png

I have used just 3 layers one of them was the big daddy's rendered art, which I used as a guide.

The fine lines and the coloring are all in one layer.

It took me about 4 hours to finish it.

Hope you like it. ^^"

I love this! For me the heart and the draw of the BioShock art style is the ruined art-deco mixed with fifties sensibilities. I love the posters in game for the incendiary plasmid showing the swarve Clark Gable-type man lighting a lady's cigarette with his fingertip, and the other advert showing a classic fifties housewife using the same skill to cook a steak. :)

Any artwork that looks like its from the world of Rapture is a winner! Who am I to ask, but if anyone has any takes on the fifties posters, including that unique cartoon style then I'd love to see 'em. :) I'd love a 'Welcome to Rapture' poster for my house as one might have looked for new arrivals. Ah, well.

Belial192, do you have a larger version of this work? I'd love to have it as my wallpaper!

Although I do agree with Fennerman - the tag-line should be something like "Enjoy your new life" as Rapture never was a holiday destination.

Even better would probably be something like "Welcome to Rapture. Your new life awaits..."

Been working on a BioShock project in my spare time - it's going to be a walkthrough animation of Rapture in it's heyday. I've posted my progress in the Luxology Modo forums, but thought you guys would be more interested.

Sumimasen - That's some awesome moddeling there, really well done, especially since you're new to 3-D. Are you using 3DS Max by any chance?

NoBullet - Very nice drawing there, you should try to add some more shading or something, maybe in photoshop. That would really make it stand out much more so.

Squint911 - Cool desktops, I especially like the last ones with Bouncer's head, simple, yet effective.

We usually explain the comic in our Blog section, but this week I tried to sell the game to my friends, a lot of which don't play video games. Joe has tried BioShock, but can't play it. Neither of us has ever played Katamari Damacy.

Thanks mate. I've been an illustrator for years, but only doing 3D for about 2 of them. Luckily I do 3D every day now as a career, so that combined with the fact that I'm a quick learner has helped. I'm ideally looking for a job in the games industry, but I think if it was gonna happen, it would have by now :( I'll just have to stick with rendering vacuum cleaners for now...

I'm actually using Modo as my main package, but I'm aiming to learn Maya in the next few months, but I'll mainly use that for animation.

I've got some more stuff to show soon, but I'm a bit busy with work at the moment to be able to fit much of this project in!

Sounds something similar to what I want to do, I am only a 'skinner' at the moment, but I hope to start to learn 3D soon. At my young age 15 (in Australia I am old enough so it should count :P) most courses are for older people. I'll have to try and teach myself. I have got something which I'm working on, a scene underwater with a Big Daddy. Getting things to look like they're underwater is quite hard. Also getting the perspectives right. Should show some progress soon, this post was a little off-topic, my apologies.

Hehe I like it. She's pretty cute, and I just love the lollipop!

Hm... My only gripe may be that her facial features look a bit too old for the body of a child. Frankly, I'd remove the bright red lips and make a thin line for the lips. It looks too much like lipstick and makes her look much older.

Otherwise, good job! And a lovely style you got! :D

Nice collage there. :) When someone just starts with these programs, it's usually easy to see flaws in such collages, but yours is basically flawless from what I can tell.

The fact that the Little Sister comes out a little blurry actually makes up for the perspective shown here, so be it an accident or not, it came out very well. :)

Nice one!

It's best you look up google for 60s clothing. Basically, you don't see enough of characters to manage anything worthwhile, except for Andrew Ryan, and for what appears to be Jack (barely) at the beginning. Tennenbaum is only seen in the shadows although you can tell she's wearing a sort of short dress; jumper type.

^Edit

How long did it take your to make, and what materials did you use?

It took somewhere around 30 hours to make him, not counting the hours my brain spent trying to figure out HOW to make him. =P I don't use a sewing machine, I don't have one that works yet, so every stitch was done by hand.

The materials were pretty varied, the soft tan fabric that makes up most of the plush is velboa, a fabric often used by Japanese UFO-catcher style plush makers. It's very soft and doesn't shred or stretch much. The brownish tone for the arms and legs is a velvet-like material I cut from a pair of dress pants, and the dark shiny material for the drill and tanks was actually from a stretch velvet skirt. The metal cage I'm not sure of, it's kind of like a combination of fleece and felt, I got it at a fabric store about six months ago, unlabeled...and the eyes are made of layered felt, with glow-in-the-dark fabric paint. ^_^

I'm making two more right now, I don't know if I'll make more past that. There must be some sort of legal limit to how many you can produce and sell without getting in trouble....

A lot of people who are custom plush artists do list plush toys of characters that are copyrighted to someone else. I think it might still be considered illegal to list something like that on eBay, but it's done quite a bit. Most of them only produce one, versus the bootleg sellers of Hong Kong that create tons of toys made through illegal labor.

I don't have intentions of doing so unless I have written permission to, though. :)

Thank you! I started making plushies a few years ago, since then I've made maybe 15 or 20? I don't know for sure. Most were humanoid, which made them easier. A few I've done are Wilt from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (now at home at Cartoon Network, with the animation crew), Alphonse from FullMetal Alchemist, Edward Scissorhands, Kozuka from Paranoia Agent, Zuko from Avatar, and Neo and Smith from the Matrix. I got a lot of help from other plush artists at UFOcatcher.net.

I've been a big stuffed animal lover since I was a little kid, I have a collection of over 160 of them right now, and when I was into Invader Zim, I wanted one of Dib. He was never released, so since I couldn't buy one, I made one, and from there, I continued doing that when I couldn't find a plush of a character I wanted. :D Plus I just love doing artsy stuff and it was a new medium to try.

Huh

Don't expect much more out of me here unless I get the game sometime soon; I just wanted to bring the heads-up that there's an 's' in front of that 'he'. If I were at least a little bit better at art, I'd post a pic or two, but I've not played the game yet, and my art pales in comparison to the stuff on here. And judging by the response on here, I doubt anyone's going to be living this down...

"Here's my painting that I worked on for seven hours straight, without bathroom breaks."

"ZOMG I LUV TEH PLUSHIE!"

"How much for the 'bear'?"

"can mr bubbles plushie be my babys daddy"

"*sigh* There's no ending the madness!"

So allow me to divert attention from Juno for just a moment; Tremula, CherryIcee, you posted some great stuff. I dedicate this post to you and all of the others that were swept away by the tidal wave of plushie mania. :p

Oooh I really like that! :)

I like how the character (I'm assuming it's Jack) doesn't care to even look at the Big Daddy and just straight at the Little Sister, as if saying "YOU are my goal. Don't care what you put in between us. I'll get you." How... evil of him... XD buahahahahaha!

Seriously though, lovely attention to details. I'm especially extatic about how you did dents in the walls :D

That's awesome, the shading's really nicely done. You've put a lot of detail into it, looks great.

This is Awesome I love the shading. It looks fantastic full size.

I was going to say that the little sister could be a little taller but the more I look at it the less I think that is true.

Here's some Bioshock fan art I did awhile back. Originally this piece was done for the threadless.com competition, but sadly didn't win. Hope you all like it.

Please check out my Gallery (http://jdstone.deviantart.com/gallery/) to see more!

WOW! this would be awesome for a screen print, I can really see it on shirts.

I also this this would be amazing as a series.
Oh well those are just my thoughts.

Yep that's Jack. I felt I should do a Rosie Big Daddy because everyone's doing Bouncers, although I admit the Bouncer is cooler. I like that idea of an evil Jack looking greedily at the little sister even though originally he was suppossed to be looking straight at the Big Daddy heroic-like. A cool accidental twist ;)

Also, in case anyone's wondering, that's an electro-shock plasmid in Jack's left hand, might be hard to see. The sides of the picture aren't supposed to be that blurry either, but my scanner sucks.

For Halloween I carved my pumpkin based on jdstone's great Bioshock shirt design.

Its not perfect, but the general idea still comes across.
