View Full Version : 360 achievements?

Kudos for this thread should belong to Gabby Hayes, he/she inspired me to discuss about what kind of achievements you like to see at the 360.
Of course they should be creative and rewarding. In my opinion for example, Oblivion had the most boring ones. You mainly gained ranks and thats all.
I would like to see achievements underlining the huge potential of solving problems differently. They should reward you for testing new ways and thinking in different directions.
But in my opinion, the rewards should not be invisible from the beginning. With this you can be creative on your own to unlock them and its not the achievement telling you what to do.
Examples:
"Whirlpool" -Combine 2 plasmids for pushing the enemy into the water and grilling him with a bolt then.
"Clean Hands" - Survive the first 2 hours of the game, without the use of any firearm
"Big Brother" - Mimic a Little Sister and let Big Daddies kill 10 enemies for you.

Some achievements can be creative, but please don't make them all super difficult to achieve. There should be an achievement for completing each level and completing the game.
You could also make one for defeating a big daddy and one for collecting all plasmids.

the most logical ones would be one for each of the Big Daddies being defeated, one for each of the weapons, one for collecting a specific number of plasmids (10, 20, 30, ect...), one for killing Little Sisters, one for saving Little Sisters, maybe a specific number of researches completed, a specific number of inventions made, any other bosses, escaping Rapture, and then maybe some creative solutions for usage against enemies, but that might detract from the game because it takes away the aspect of creative freedom, because people would just be trying to get those achievement points

I was fond of the way Dead Rising dished out acheivements (not DR, but their Acheivements... :) ) There was even one for killing a certain number of zombies. It was the population of the city.... Interesting.... That's a fun acheivement. Of course there will be, "Kill Big Daddy One (two, three, etc.) and other that tie in with gameplay, but there should be creative and fun ones too. "Explore all of Rapture", or anything that is COMPLETELY separate from gameplay, just showing you enjoyed the game.

I know microsoft offers a minimum of 900 points for achievements, with up to 1250 including downloadable content. Are you going to go this route like crackdown, or are you doing the standard 1000 at launch with the possibility of more later?
Also, any clues to some of the acievements?

im sure there will be a "killed all the big daddys" achievement
hopefully theres some of the useless achievements all games include. like "altered genitals to the extreme" or "most enemies electrocuted at once"

I always enjoy that little rewarding ping and pop up for acheivements!
My guess would be,pretty standard stuff, like
Complete level with no firearm/plasmids
Save all the LS
Harvest all the LS
Find all voice logs
Use every plasmid
Freeze/electrocute 25 enemies
It also wouldnt surprise me if there is one reoccuring hidden item that can be found to trigger an achievement, like the tags in GOW:)

this post was a question for the team on what method of achievements they are gonna use, not what achievements they are gonna have, but whatever, merge what you want to merge.

I hope the achievements make it so you can get them not doing what you would normally do in the game like in Dead Rising they had the Zombie Genocider and you had to kill a total population of the town that the town in the city is based off of, and then there are games with Horrible achievments like Fight Night Round 3 because those achievements were too easy to get everysingle one since to get them all you had to do is complete Career mode then you have all the achievements in that game.

oooh ooh!
no life achievement - going through the game without using upgrade and plazmids ever, on the most difficult skill level while killing all big daddies

Anything that isn't "played the game" or "played the game for HOURS and HOURS", like UNO's played 40 cards of type X, or Catan's built a village settlement.
I don't want an endurance test, I want to actually ACHIEVE something. Contra's finish first tunnel in 33 seconds or less is a perfect example. That's freaking hard to do!
Sometimes the lines blur a little. Scramble's end of level achievements mean nothing for level 1, but I'll be darned if I can get to the end of level 3! GOW's cogtag achievements are ok if you only play by yourself offline, but find someone to play with that knows where they are and it's just a "yes, I played the game" marker. Killing 100 enemies with the chainsaw in ranked trials might seem like an achievement, but it gets boring fast, and then it's just an endurance test.
Basically, anything you would do in the normal course of stumbling through a game is too easy (oh look, I started the game - ACHIEVEMENT!), and anything that is too insanely hard or just plane tedious (look, I played a trillion hands of uno - ACHIEVEMENT!) are just plain out.
Some of the best achievements and worst achievements I have seen are in heavy weapon. 8 minutes in warparty being a good example, 12 minutes being bad. Playing with 4 people online is a REALLY bad example.
Hope there is something helpful in all that.

well i agree w/ u guys that there should be achievements about killing big daddies, but only 1 just to prove you've done it, maybe worth 100 points? anyways others include finishing the game (100 points) getting your first upgrade (10 points) than achievements for each of the class skills like hacker, brute etc also NO SECRET ACHIEVEMENTS they bug me extremely because u don't know what to do when u beat the game

I am 90% sure that the only *secret* achievements we have are those which would be plot spoilers. So once you've beaten the game, you will have automatically uncovered all of them.

You can always have random achievements just for extra fun, even though it could be worth 0 Achievement points. Take the Ninja Turtle arcade game for example. You get an achievement for falling into a manhole 5 times even though it gives you 0 points.

Yeah, that was pretty cool, :D. Also, if you lose 5 times straight on Dead Or Alive 4 you get a 0 achievement.

I can't wait for BioShock's incorporation of Achievements.
The only problem I have is that they might make the story alittle linear. I know that 2K talks about the non-linear story and outcomes, but if some of the achievements are based on doing a specific thing within the story that you necessarily don't want to do (but do it for the achievement) then that might cause a bit of a problem. I know there are some Achievement *****s (such as myself) who will go out of their way for an Achievement.

Yeah, hopefully there not all story ones and such. I do enjoy it when a company takes some time and thought into their achievements, but hey, it really is just icing on the cake.

hear what i want to see achievements that are worth 0GP like in F.E.A.R. there was a Vermin one were you had to kill 5 Rats or crows to get it. give us a sold 1000GP but dont stop there give us abunch move achievements worth 0GP to keep people playing the game
and for dear god give us a Kill every big daddy in the game achievement
i would also like to see gamer pics tied into unlocking a achivement something like GOW when you get the 10,000 Kills achivement you get a secreat gamer pic. now my hope and dream for this game would be to have each pic that used for a achivment be unlocked to use as a gamer pic

i hope not beacuse that would be so borning to get
For you maybe, but you don't need to get every single achievement, in fact I tend to loathe people who go over-board on their desire to get achievements. Besides that I'm sure there are alot of people who would very much enjoy gambling in the casinos of rapture (I certainly would) as I'm sure the reasource starvation aspect of bioshock would be slightly alleviated after a nice run at the ol' casino.

I think gambaling in the game would be cool, but i think that if you play to long you should get ambushed by a splicer so people still have to stay on their toes :)
But i think achivements should be based on the multiple endings, such as if you play the game without killing any little sisters or if you kill all the little sisters that way people who do it for the achivements will have more fun playing through the game agian

ya i have a feeling that gambling will be a minigame like hacking bots and you wont be able to be attcked while playing it which is better because i would not like to be about to win a huge pot and get killed

your probly right, but it would also be cool if you get a high hacking skill that you could get money/adam from the slot machines for free. probly wont happen cause its kinda cheap but that would be cool

Now that would be pretty sweet idea! espically if in the casinos there are just some splicers who are addicted to gambaling and try to fight you off if you try to play. that would be cool to see in some of the in depth stories that they are always talking about. or some casino mob boss/owner gone crazy that you would have to defeat. (kinda a rip-off dead rising and the store manger but its a good idea)

Hmmm. Multiple endings? I was pretty sure Ken said there would only be one ending. Something to the effect of writing one great ending is hard enough as it is, and he'd prefer that to a bunch of mediocre endings? Hmm.

but then that would throw the whole concept of what bioshock is about down the toilet "we give you all these choices to make, but in the end it wont matter cause were just gonna have one ending" ;)

i could see there being 2 endings one with helping out the LS or harvesting them but i think that the ending will just be getting out of rapture becuase that is wat the goal is and helping or harvesting would just make the outcome of how u get out different

If there is going to be a second Bioshock, I don't think we'll be leaving Rapture at the end. IF we left, then where would the sequel take place, Rapture II?

I haven't really seen this on other games before? Do they really list all the achievements you can get?
It'd be cool, but then don't you think it'd take the fun out of the game? I mean, it'd list all the things to collect, plus all the enhancements to get and so on...
Any game I play I never look at the achievement until after I've beaten it, then I can play it the first time without trying to get anything out of it other than beating it, then I play it again knowing theres cools things to get.
Works great for double playing time. Which will work extremely well for Bioshock, since there is supposed to be two endings (1 if you harvest and 1 if you save the LS)

Here is a question that I NEED answered, and I can't stress NEED enough here!!! When going for the achievement for beating the game using only the wrench, can I still use Plasmids, if so which ones? And can I still make use of the Security choppers? Please I need answers !?!

I completely agree. I got the Zombie Genocider achievement in Dead Rising, it was fun at first but quickly became boring as hell:mad:
