View Full Version : XFX AGP 7950 512mb vs Bioshock Beta Driver.

This graphics card from xfx is pretty much the fastest thing you can get that runs on AGP (except maybe some of the ATI X1900's but those are only 256mb). I'd highly recommend this card for anyone trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of your old agp system before rebuilding this winter. (just be sure you've got a beefy PSU and lots of patience for driver issues)

Because the 7950gt wasn't originally meant to run on agp, standard Nvidia drivers won't install properly - they give an error "no compatible hardware found." So you either have to use the modded drivers from the xfx site (usually a month or so behind) or crack the supported card-list in the nvidia driver install to get it to recognize the card. I was able to do the latter option once for one of a 158 era driver (found files on nvidia forums), but my old crack isn't working for the new bioshock beta driver.

So… Anyone using this card and/or know how to mod the supported card list in the 163.44 driver? I'm currently on the 162.18xfx driver, before this I think I had the 94.1#xfx or so which seemed to work better imo. I should be testing the game when I get home this afternoon, and I'd like to be ready in case neither of those drivers work properly. Any help would be appreciated.

btw, this is in XP SP2 32bit. Here are the rest of the specs in case that will help:

P4 3.2ghz, 800mhz fsb, 2gb DDR400mhz, AGP GF7950GT 512mb, SB Audigy 2, Ultra 600w psu, XP SP2.

I am having the same problem with the XFX 7950 GT board in an AGP slot.

I was wondering if anyone had been able to change an .inf file or otherwise trick the drivers to install on this computer.

Thanks in advance

Just use the 163.44 Nvidia Drivers from:

www.laptopvideo2go.com

I'm pretty sure they have support for using the AGP 7950, for them to install properly download the XP or Vista Driver you need and then download the Modded INF and replace the original INF.

Or give the extreme-g drivers a whirl, they are usually hacked for 7950 agp's.

On 2k go through the device manager and update the driver pointing it to where you downloaded and unpacked the nvidia driver files.

Also, this is what the readme.txt suggests. d'oh!

Now to reboot, crossing fingers.
