View Full Version : Problem with key binding... Help! Patch AZERTY to QUERTY
So... Here's the problem... Installing the game in french configure automaticaly the control for AZERTY keyboards, but I do use QWERTY keyboards like every other American...
I just need to swap Q and A + W and Z... However, since we can't assign an action to a key if this particular key is already taken, this is freakin hard... I tried with the defuser.ini file, but the file seem to be protected by Vista...
Help me! Patch this, do something...
Developpers always forget that French language don't necessarly(argh!) mean AZERTY keyboard...

I had similar issues to this as posted in this thread:
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4972
I was able to edit the User.ini file to change the keys manually, even though the game said they were "reserved". It doesn't matter if they are already assigned to something or not. My case in point was the "R" key which is by default set to "Reload". I want "R" to be "Use", so I bound another key to "Reload" which unassigned R, then attempted to assign R to Use.
GUI won't let me, stating that it's reserved.
Seems like if you 1) base a game on Unreal Technology and 2) have a screen that lets you change the vast majority of your input functionality, then you should be able to assign anything to anything from that GUI without having to muck with .ini files.
Frankly, I'm pretty good at .cfg and .ini file manipulation, but I know I'm very much in the minority.

Sorry... skipped over this part. The file you want to edit is the User.ini file, located here (at least in XP... I'm assuming Vista puts it in the same or very similar place):
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Bioshock\User.ini
Good luck!
Sorry to say that, but it is innaceptable that I had to change thing in a .ini file when a game is featured in the new "Game for Windows" which is suppose to make game easier to configure... I mean... I'm not even able to save the changes I did to the .ini file!
One again, minorities are ignored... ;) (Ok, that one is too much! ;))

I already posted about this here:

also, I need a mod/admin to move that thread to the Technical Support Forum please.
and a sticky would be nice if you feel it's warranted
