I just installed the new nvidia v162 driver and now my entire computer crashes randomly when I'm playing bioshock demo. It's not an IRQ error either, the screen goes completely black or white with colored squares and I have to turn the computer off manualy, it restarts normaly after by the way. I played the demo with the older v94 driver with no issues.
For some reason the new v163 beta driver shows a error message saying that my hardware is not supported by the driver (?) and I can't start it's installation.
I'm currently with v94 driver and the system information on nvidia's control panel shows my graphic card processor as NVIDIA (Unknown).
Can anyone help me, please?

Ok. I have the same card and am having similar problems. But I don't see the squares. my screen just goes blank and I have to restart. If it crashes at a loading screen I'm fortunate to be able to get back into windows and close the bioshock process. Same problem with the nvidia beta drivers... The thing is... I downloaded the demo before I bought the game, and it worked FLAWLESSLY. On all Settings. It NEVER crashes once. I played through it several times. But I haven't been able to get as far in the full game as the demo even allows. I bought it on steam.

To disable the black squares I had to turn off High Detail Post something something. Same problem I had playing RS:Vegas

Same thing happens to me on my 6800GT, I can play fine on most settings, then I get the colored squares / lines and poof, my screen goes blank, my monitor turns off and the computer seems almost to be in a sleep mode, but I have to turn it off and start it up again. Really hope I didn't waste my money on this game.

i have a 6800GT 2GB ram and 3700+ and ran the demo really well, especially on low settings with 640x480. I would get from 30 to 100 FPS. I could play it max at 640 as well but with 15 FPS no crashes or black squares. =S i tried playing it on max 1280x1024 but i crashed at the purse when you're drowning. =P

I am having the same issues, I reduced everything to the lowest settings. The game runs fine even at higher resolutions but sometime I get a black screen and have to restart and also if that does not happen, when the sphere ride ends my game has about 5 fps even at the lowest settings and is for some reason taking up 100% of my CPU.
It said our card was not supported in the beta installation of the new drivers and that may be why.

Perhaps nVidia just dropped support for your cards. ATi have ditched all the pre-9500 series cards.

If it runs fine with the older drivers, use them. simple as that.

Oh ****! Did nVidia really ditch the 6 series in the new BETA drivers?

Just looked it up.
Supposedly the 6800GT IS still supported in the new BETA drivers.
Did you uninstall the old drivers, then clean with Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5 before installing the new ones?

Didn't work with the old drivers, I then found out about the new drivers and installed them. Same thing. I did unistall the old drivers but I didn't use a special program. I'm about ready to give up. I keep trying but it just won't work at all on any graphical setting.

When the 6800 GT is detected as a generic series 6800 card instead of a GT, the entry is "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series GPU". The part of the beta driver's .inf file that recognizes that state is missing. The .inf you can get from laptopvideo2go.com fixes that issue.
However, on my WinXP system using twin 6800 GT SLI cards, that particular beta driver was very unstable and also caused graphical garbling in Windows Media Player. I ended up having to remove it and reinstall version 162.18 (that's what I had immediately available; you might have better luck with 162.50, which is apparently WHQL signed).

nVidia dropped support for the 6800's a while ago =P
Try using the NGO driver (www.ngohq.com). Use the 1.15822b drivers (found HERE (http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Files&go=cat&dwn_cat_id=10&go=giveme&dwn_id=417))...they worked like a charm for me on my system with a 6800GT. I'm able to run the game at full settings on 1024x768 getting no lower than 30FPS...pretty good =)
