View Full Version : Would you Kindly?

"Would you Kindly"? Those words uttered from "Atlas'" mouth...It was rather confusing, and well rather opinionated on why those words affected Jack the way it did. I am no Guru with Bioshock, but the theory here is quite controversial. Maybe I did not fully understand this aspect of the story and was hoping to find some addicts to the story, like myself, for their insights on this topic.
Why is Jack a slave? Why is he being controlled by Fontaine? Not to mention how is he being controlled. How did he become a slave to Andrew Ryan and Fontaine? How does the simple utterance of these words make Jack so feasible to do so.
I love discussing this story and I am most likely walking into some spoilers, but I still yearn to learn! All insights are welcomed not to mention further discussions!

This thread will probably be moved if people start posting spoilers, but I can suggest this: If you have finished the game, and have gathered the audio diaries, listen to them again--especially Suchong's. If you haven't picked them up during the game, go back and search for them. Also listen to Tenenbaum's radio messages. These contain clues that should make things clearer.

jasmine jolene? remember her? well thats your mama and she sold you to fontaine. he knew that if he had andrew ryan's kid, he could use his genetic code/take over rapture blah blah. ryan found out, and killed her. (the dead stripper in fort frolic..) anyways... you were brought up in a lab and given crazy growth hormones within a year you looked like a 20 year old (if i remember correctly, suchong says so in an audio diary) well, fontaine also had suchong "program" you into obeying anytime someone would say "would you kindly" So, by Jack not being in complete control over what he does, he's technically a slave. "a man chooses, a slave obeys" (even reading would you kindly made him do stuff)
as for HOW they actually brainwashed him, who knows... crazy stuff went down in rapture :p

What I want to know is, Jack (plasmids aside) somehow programmed to be stronger or more athletic than your average splicer? Him and Fontaine seem to be the only ones who can use more than one plasmid.
And how come Jack suffers no ill effects from Adam use (with the exception of ghosts)
I know in Video Games is customary for the Hero to be 10x stronger than everyone else but sometimes they try rationalize it.

Houdinis seem to have at least two plasmids; the teleportation plasmid and incinerate! As for others only having one seeing as they become deformed from a lack of adam they musnt have enough to either buy more plasmids or new plasmid slots?
Oh and as Jack doesn't seem to have side effects other than ghosts i would say that its because he always has adam at his disposal and doesn't go without it for too long. And if you go with any of the endings he cud get a lifetime's supply of adam from the little sisters either by force or if they give it to him.
That's what i think anyways :)

hmm hey thats actually a pretty good theory!
Well I think they they gave him adam willingly, because he became their father.
Altought I tought that once you saved the LS they stopped producing adam.

It is actually teleportation. It was going to be a plasmid that you could buy but the took it out because it caused to many problems. If you don't belive me then click on this link. http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Teleport

For BS1 it would have been the Teleportation plasmid in BS2 MP the "Hudini Plasmid" will turn the player invisible with the same cloud effect as Hudini splicers, other players viewing it will be under the impression that the player has teleported
