any advice? first time player mafia 1

i found a copy of mafia [im guessing 1?] at a thrift shop today. ive installed it on my laptop, but it wont play. i can click on the shortcut, and it will open a new window, but nothing actually happens with that window. nothing loads within the screen and it locks all other activities until i hit ctrl, alt, del and force a close. im running windows xp.

any advice out there? id really like to give the game a try. thanks in advance!

i have no idea of the specs or where to find them. blonde eh? its a compaq presario v6000 if that helps.

have you installed the patch?

if not try that first.

if that still doesn't work open the folder where Mafia was installed.

look for the avi video clips and try and open them in a media player, if that doesn't work go here

download & install the indeo codecs, don't get a newer version or you'll have to pay, that older one is free.

try it again, if it still doesn't work what settings are you using in setup?
