i was wondering what u guys thought about the aspects of a games story? for example and my main reason for asking this, do you think the intellectual level and complexity of a story is more important and makes for a better game (metal gear solid 2 for instance was complex in ways and very umm interesting lol) or do you think a story should just be simple an based upon a particular lesson? (phantasy star universe for instance was just about good against evil and the lesson was to not let power be abused etc.) just curious as to what your guyses opinions are on this and how you think bioshocks will turn out?

I liked the SS2 story, okay it wasn't very original, but it kept you genuinely interested in the plot

I want deep and complex story lines, but I don't want them to be filled with stupidity like MGS2.

I love stories that require you to use your brain. :D
We have to many movies/TV shows/games that only ask that you sit down on a couch and look at the screen. Sometimes that is alright, if not needed, but too much is a very bad thing.

i think all of the mgs games suck. thats me tho noone flame, i know alot of people like them. but yea, the story line si what makes the game. without it its just like an arcade game.

yeah ive always like the mgs series and the story in 2 was very . . . odd lol. but it WAS complex so it at least had your interest through the game. a lot to do with politics etc. but i think most people like to see a complex and compelling storyline as opposed to like a zelda storyline where its just like beat the bad guy cuz hes evil type of thing

I love storylines that are complex and intelligent but still possible to understand. KOTOR did it wonderfully
I'm also a fan of Deep Complex stories, and example being Metal Gear....In some ways im glad its Kojimas last...so many unanswered questions...to be answered!.
I hope Bioshock has a deep story...It looks like it will, however I wont have an opinion 'till I play it. :)

I think both types have their merit. Simple stories make for great action movies, play once titles, etc. Complex stories make for very good books, games you replay many times to gain a deeper understanding of things.

I like games that have depth in their storylines. I like when the games story isnt simple because usally when it simple you progress through the game and your like" oh i saw that coming" and then you usally know what happens at the end before you even get there. But for a game with a complexed story line you dont know whats going to happen because theres twist and turns everywhere which in my opinion makes the game more exciting.

yah my point exactly. its more exciting and really draws you in if you have no idea whats going to happen next cuz its almost like life your just taking things as they come, if that makes sense without sounding to stupid lol. wow someone actually chose simple story lines in polls

yeah thats kinda the reason i love complex stories cuz it makes me feel like im playin through someones life if ya all kno what i mean. glad to know the people here are actually into that and i dont get the whole who cares if it has MP or sumthin. seems like the people on this board are a lot more intelligent than most of the people on forums lol

Sometimes a simple story can do more then a complex one (Star Wars - Good Vs. Evil/Light Vs. Dark).
But then their are times when a complex story is far more enjoyable. However a story can be complex yet still simple. The definition of what makes a story simple or complex is always changing. The absolute will always be in the reader's mind, not that of the critic's.

A complex story gives you reason to play through the game again, to more deeply understand what happens.

It really depends on the game a game like BioShock I want a deep story but a game like Gears of War it's not that important.
