All right, so Civilization has been my favorite game of all time since was a wee lass and working at 2K was but a gleam in my eye. And recently Firaxis launched a newsletter, and one of my favorite things in it is the signed and numbered Civ lithos that are being sold.
...And one will be going in my house. You can't have it. It's mine.
Anyway. Check it out, please, and sign up because Civilization is the best game ever (except for BioShock.)

do you have a windows machine? download civilization 4 on steam. it's a really good price and that's how i run my civilization. you can also get the first expansion (new one soon WOO) and it will SUCK YOUR LIFE AWAY.

sounds good to me... i heard rumors about its addiction potential, but it would be just impossible for me to play it right now. how could i moderate the forums or play Stalker? the day has only 24 hours :(
but i will check it out sometime...

Is the second expansion out yet? Warlords was amazing.
Edit: Just outta curiosity which races do you two play? I keep wanting to try others, but especially with Warlords those Mongols are just so damn sexy...

I'm very often the Russians, because I adore Russian culture, and I'm a dork like that.
The second expansion is on its way. (The newsletter will keep you up to date on new info about it, for those who like recieving updates in their inbox.)

Great, then maybe you can use your influence to get that sequel to SMAC we've been waiting for so long. Or if the AC name can't be used (not sure but I think EA may own the AC name) then how about a spiritual successor?

Well Civ 4 did use the gov't system that Alpha Centauri had...however it did not allow for a Planet Smasher :)

Those extra XP for military units really helps, since I almost always choose Mongols, or occasionally the Chinese (I'm a big RotK nut - both the book and the Koei game series)

EA owns the Alpha Centauri franchise, so there's zero chance of Firaxis doing that for the forseeable future.
There are some very cool things in the upcoming Beyond the Sword expansion that AC fans will like, but it's not a full Alpha Centauri game. That's just not happening.

I'm sorry to hear that Jason. Alpha Centauri was a fantastic game and it deserves a sequel. Are you aware of the poll on the Firaxis web site at the link here (http://www.firaxis.com/community/polls.php)? Not owning the franchise didn't stop Irrational from making a spiritual successor to System Shock 2. So maybe Firaxis could do the same...
One thing I've never understood about the games business is why publishers don't get together and jointly produce a game. Hollywood movie studios do it all the time. If one publisher owns the IP (like EA owns AC) and one publisher owns the resources (like Take-Two owns Firaxis) the two companies could jointly produce an AC sequel.

In the case of EA I'd say it's pure ego. If you look closely some (not nearly as many as your example of the movie industry but still some) games seem to have collaborations like that, but most just seem to be on a developer/publisher basis.

Am i right in thinking there is a Civ 4 compilation pack coming, with the original civ 4 and all the expansion packs with it?

dunno, there is a gold edition out that has civ4 and warlords... and no beyond the sword is out, which is awesome!
BtS is just a great game period. Somehow improving on warlords, with many new in game features (units, buildings, corporations, random events, endings) by itself being worthy of an expansion. but its got new civs, leaders, and scenarios too!
