From what I experienced in another word of mouth buzz generating site T-shirts did play an important role.

I'd certainly be happy with more access to those gorgeous art assets like the Big Daddy featured on the Cult front page. Perhaps the game's soundtrack burnt on actual CD for a crisp sound that can only be rivaled by that of an exploding security bot?

Something that gives the vibe of the game while being a really neat conversation piece would make for a cool perk.

A classy promo was from High Moon Studio's Darkwatch with a real hefty pewter replica, yeah it was that detailed and weathered, badge matching those from the game.

Perhaps some sort of Rapture armband or old style newsie beret from the 1940's?

A stuffed little sister beanie complete with stitched scars and a cute widdle hypo to drain your corpse's vital Adam remnants?

In terms of cost something that wouldn't be too damaging could be a signed banner sized posted from the entire game crew. "Welcome To Rapture 1955" in big happy letters. :cool:

How about general art submissions? As in not necessarily artwork, but some form of art? I know lots of the other threads have mentions of music, deco artbooks, the with the story about the photograph, etc. So you could have a general art submission contest for multiple medias. (Psst...I'd love to team up with somebody who can draw for a Rapture comic!)

I know somebody else mentioned this awhile back but perhaps an in character mini-RP on the boards? It's not really a contest (i guess it could be), but I imagine it'd take more time to do than any of the others. If you do something like this after the release I'd love to try (I know AEG (then again their main job is RP) does this like yearly for their Legend of the Five Rings property - I lose one of my friends to it for weeks :))

I'm really hoping that there will be more than just artistic competitions. I for one make a stick figure look bad. I'm pretty sure a 2 year old scribbling on a piece of paper with a crayon can do better than myself. Also hopefully there could be some quick (or at least not extremely long detailed) things to do seeing as i'm about to head over to the desert to do my duty for my country, and i'll be gone for a little while and don't have much time to invest.

Every cult member gets a free copy of bioshock!!! All you need to do to get it is either pay a fee to your local video game retailer and he will hold it for you, the fees range from $50 to $70 depending if you buy xbox or pc versions and if you purchase the limited editon or not. People who do not want to pay a holding fee can go to thier local retailer on 8-21 and just pay a shipping cost of exactly the same amounts as listed above, and there you go!! You collected your cult member perk of a free copy of Bioshock.

Then through the magic of programming the names would be transfered to the game assigning each name to a different splicer that you encounter. So when you kill a splicer you would find the name of a cult member on him/her. So then you could come on the forums and say, "hey *soandso*! I just froze you, bashed you with a wrench and shattering you to a million pieces!"

That way we would be Cult members in and out of the game. Probably not possible, but that would be funny.

If there are dupilcate names, you'd only have one instance. It wouldn't matter whether it was Mark Johnson from Biose, Idaho, or Mark Johnson from Fairlight, East Sussex, both of them would come across that splicer and yell "It's me!".

But you're right, for those with non-Western names, it might be a bit unfair. Having their names on European/Caucasian splicers would look odd, and there's no sign of anyone from the East/Middle East/Africa/etc. :(

I'm starting to wonder if the Cult of Rapture member perks are going to be after the game comes out. As of right now we are getting within two months of release and I would think it would have opened by now if it was for early adopters. We'll see though, I guess it could really open any day.

I was thinking about the launch party last night, I'm in dire need of a vacation, and taking a trip to new york around the time of the launch party would literally halve the amount of money it would take me to get a decent vacation, hell I could take a bus there. Plus since I've never been to NYC before it'd be neat. And I could side-trip to jersey to stop at Jay and Silent Bob's secret stash and load up on more collectibles.

I understand making it prizes. However, what if one of the winners ends up being a soldier that just got shipped to Iraq or Afghanistan? His unit can't and won't let him fly back, even on someone else's dime. It comes down to fairness on that kind of thing. It's bad enough that some of us that would have loved to be in on the testing couldnt' because we don't live in NYC. I read the invite and wished like all get out that I could have been there, but I was in Utah at the time without the funds, or the leave time to get out to NYC. Besides, my wife would have kicked my butt if I blew that kind of money on a trip just to play a video game for several hours over the course of a few days...

I think the Cult perks should definately be something that everyone can get, cult members that is. Prizes like a trip to the launch party would be really cool as a drawing, but for those members that can't use the prize, for whatever reason, there should still be a great consolation prize for them.

I also wonrder that we can't all be in on the launch party via IRC or some other similar means... I noticed that Shadowrun is doing just that for it's launch on Tuesday, and I don't think it's near as anticipated as Bx is.

I suppose it really comes down to 2K's side of things. As you already know (but others here may not) Flagship Studios, the guys working on Hellgate: London recently had a community day on which they invited a group of fans consisting of a contest winner and the heads of various fan sites down to their studio, and gave them a tour of the studio and a playtest of the game. Their whole trip and accommodation was paid for, and what's more, courtesy of EA they each walked home with an Intel Core Duo Quad cpu and motherboard. That's the kind of thing big marketing campaigns are made of.

I didn't equate the 'perks' as literally being advantages that we'd get that we don't already by being potentially hardcore fans (ie. always being up-to-date with any new word on the game out there, and getting those media goodies as soon as they are available). Argh I hope these perks aren't going to be solely digital. Believe it or not I want BioShock to be a carbon-based experience for me in a lot of ways.

If there would be exclusive access to purchase CoR or Bx merch for the long time CoR folks, that would be excellent.

I just don't wanna see the perks becoming wallpapers, avatars, AIM buddy icons, and screensavers...I can make those myself; and would be willing to help with that if that's what it comes down to :o

It worked now I didn't like the Yellow in the Guide thing but everything else was good, so I customized and made the Dashboard Trim Glass like I usually have it, and the Guide was the Darkness before so I kept it the Darkness but the Rest of the Theme is the Cult of Rapture Theme it is really good.

I got my code today, entered it in the redeem code section, and sat there amazed! I think it looks great! Shame that there isn't any picture for the red, xbox live page, but if I recall, that whole page only went up a couple weeks ago. Anyway, I want to thank Elizabeth for sending me the code so quickly. This cult theme puts me into a bit of a quandary. I've already paid for the BioShock theme and gamerpics. So should I use the Cult theme, assuming Elizabeth deems me worthy of having it, or keep my old one? From what I've seen, they both look excellent.

Edit: Upon seeing the Rapture Gazette pictures, I've decided on the Cult theme, heh. Now, hopefully I win the Haiku contest, or otherwise am noticed and given a theme.

I have had the code now for a couple of weeks and have been checking the Marketplace on a regular basis. I still don't see any pictures that aren't also available for microsoft points.

Elizabeth seems to be extremely busy, no surprise there, so any help the CoRists can give me would be gratefully accepted. Thanks!

I'll just add, I had seen that spot all along, I just didn't know it was for anything other than microsoft points or XBL subscription numbers. That is kinda of cool, the code tells Microsoft exactly what content/points etc. they are supposed to send out!
