I think we should have a STALKER thread for the loners out there who wish to tell stories, trade secrets and just chitchat on happenings within the Zone.
I just got the military documents from the Agroprom research facility, basically had to mill around the sewers until 11pm came around. Ran into some sort of psionically-powered mutated man who pulled my mind right up to him. Plugged him with the rapid-fire AK74U
Getting frustrated at the packing weight. I'm always at around 55-58 kgs, and can't fathom dropping anything, not knowing what's ahead.
I have 5 vodka's, 5 rad hypos, 10 pieces of food, 20 orange medkits, 12 blue military medkits, 15 bandages, 4 artifacts, 7 grenades, 7 energy drinks, a Viper5, a Fort12 extended clip.

I finished the game a few weeks ago and I only post here to warn you about a potential bug in the main quest. It's a nasty one and it ruined my first attempt to get one of the "true" endings. But luckily I've only seen this happen to a handful of others and it can be easily overcome.
So, a bit later on you will meet up with a certain doctor. If your PDA doesn't update with instructions and a new location after the meeting, you're screwed. The solution presented itself after I replayed the game from that point. So, make sure you save often and in different slots, especially when you get close to main quest meeting points.
A small advice (and spoiler) next, but I suggest you read it. Otherwise you might miss out on what I consider to be the most impressive area in the game: make sure you do everything in the main quest as best as you can. Keep the more important characters alive and do every special mission they offer you. Since my bug prevented me from getting the ending I deserved, I got to a different place in the world and received one of the "false" endings, which had a very cool cinematic by the way. Not as cool as the best ending though, which pays a little hommage to the Stalker movie. The big problem is, none but the best possible ending will allow you to explore around the nuclear power plant. Every other storyline will end inside it.
You do get to see the Chernobyl map no matter how you've played, and it WILL cause your jaw drop to the floor, well at least if you have a powerful PC. It is THAT impressive, actually for me it was the most impressive level I've ever seen in a videogame. Very hard though. And question of taste or not, someone who doesn't feel the electricity in the air when running around there is either dead or a complete moron.
Now, there's practically 3 parts of the area. The one I mentioned above which everyone gets to see, the interior(s) and the huge main area where you explore around the power plant like I'm sure you've seen in the countless trailers. Getting there ain't hard if you experiment a bit and it will extend gameplay time with at least 2 more intense hours in a breathtaking setting.
I'm not gonna say anything more about it unless you want me to. Good luck.
Oh, and feel free to ask about other things, I might be able to offer valuable help. I played as a loner too, so...
EDIT: the game ran fine on my system, no crashes ever, only a few minor hiccups now and then. I had all settings on high-max in 1280x960 resolution.

I'm not that much further than Raveness (I've got to go see Boar about a key) and I'm in the same boat weight wise, except mine is more ammo than health (the illustrated difference between men and women:)). I had over 1000 rounds for the pistol, about 700 for the AKm, and 250 for the shotgun. I dropped half of my pistol rounds to make weight for other items and nearly crashed the game.
I've found one thing just about made me tear out my hair: I finally got the money to get a decent suit (30000Ru) - and had to sell most of my stuff to get there. I buy one and then turn around and ask for a job. I'm ready for it.
It turns out I hadn't completed picking up my reward, so I do that.
The reward includes that very suit.
But it gets better. I've struggled since the start of the game to stay alive. Couldn't take down more than one in the open without dying. I probably spent more time watching the loading screen than playing the game. I got stuck at the psionic mutant in the sewers, and while researching how to get past him (the easy way: run) I discovered that there was a full Stalker suit freely available-
At the beginning of the game! (OK, so that's two things.)

I used to travel light, of course once in a while I would end up with no ammo in a mutant infested area, and that, as you can imagine SUCKED :o But thinking back it did create a few memorable "now what ?" situations, so I'm glad I played that way. Money-wise I think the game is extremely easy, I had mountains of cash and nothing to do with it. Once I got the green scientist suit I could completely stop caring about selling stuff to vendors.

Heaven, do you have any suggestion as to what we don't need to carry? You have been through our future exploits, so you must know what is essential and what isn't. I also have a thousand rounds of 9x19mm rounds for the Fort12, but favored the Viper5 over the shotgun & shells, and have limited ammo for it.
I got stuck at the psionic mutant in the sewers, and while researching how to get past him (the easy way: run) I discovered that there was a full Stalker suit freely available-
Found out that blokes name is the Controller. I bolted as well as soon as his psionic pull really freaked me out, then I threw a grenade in and sprinted into his face blazing away with the rapid-fire AKm 74/2, aiming for the head of course ;)
Now I'm planning to head to the Dark Valley before going the bar route past the Dutyers.

I only had 2 weapons, some ammo, healthkits and anti-ad. And of course artifacts on my belt. You can easily resupply when fighting humans, so why play like a pack mule all the time ? Only get lots of ammo when going inside a bunker. There you don't necessarily need speed and there's usually lots of fighting. I woke up with 0 bullets at one time deep inside a mutant infested facility and boy it was exciting. :D And there's always a solution, even if you have to run like a coward. So, don't worry so much and get rid of everything you won't use in the near future. And stop thinking so far ahead cause the game will become your second job.

Here is what I currently carry (http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9186/stalkerbar1xy7.jpg). As you can see, I'm borderline overburdened, and can only imagine tossing half the bandages, half the red medkits, a couple of the blue medkits, and maybe dropping down to 5 pieces of food. That would reduce my load by 7 kg's, but I'd still be almost 3 over the safe limit. What to do, what to do......
And what's with random loners still telling me about the guys down south in the Dark Valley having a cool gun to buy? I already pwnd those bastards after they ripped me off. They didn't even have any good guns on their corpses
My husband has the gall to ask me what I was going to do as I stood dumbstruck after the guy runs into his barn with my 800 rubles. What else can I do, but keep my reputation intact.

You can safely drop about 400 of the 1133 ammo. I also suggest getting rid of the pistol and it's bullets. It won't make any difference against tougher enemies. And try to use 5 artifacts, there's plenty everywhere and some of them are VERY useful. But maybe you haven't found the best ones yet. Sadly, I can't identify them anymore based only upon their looks so, sorry. But try to use the ones that give you a lot of health points. I think the best one has a 400% bonus.
And about those loners who took your 800r, I killed them too but later I realised it was one of the situations taken into account when determining what ending you get. :)
If you think about joining Duty or Freedom, I can't help there. I played as a loner all the way through because I read some rumors on the official forums that there might be bugs in one of the two's questline.
And sorry that I take so much time to reply but my bosses are circling above my head and I have to pretend I'm working when they're closeby.
Oh, had any really scary moments yet ? If yes, I'll tell you about mine too, but until then I'll pretend I'm all brave and strong. :D

How do you get in there? I tried going in by heading south from the checkpoint that leads to the bar, but the raditaion's too high.
Oh, and I found a soul artifact. I kept heading north through the Garbage(?) where the junked vehicles are, and through a bandit camp. 600+ health. Sweet. :)

Never found that artifact myself.
To get into the Dark Valley you have to run through the radiated area and use a few anti-rad syringes till you get to the loading zone. When I first did this I woke up dead at the Dark Valley entrance, but after loading the autosave I appeared in one piece. A word of advice: save into a new slot before attempting the scientist escort mission, it's quite difficult.

I'll trim down on the AKm ammunition, but I feel I should keep the pistol and it's ammo. I tend to use the sidearms about a third of the time, taking out easier foes and stupid beasts.
I lost a MeatChunk artifact that I was equipped with when I accepted the mission with its namesake. There are several located in the Agroprom facility level, so I'll head back. I may try the Garbage for the artifact vdog mentions.
One point that scared me was going into the abandoned Bandit building located in the eastern area of the Dark Valley. MY PDA indicator was flashing 1 contact in range, so I went into the room the blip was in, but instead found it had bodies piled up that I hadn't killed. Then I hear a roar, turn around and notice a Poltergeist coming for me. Son of a ***** laid a trap!

I saw a 20 min gameplay video of a guy playing through the Agroprom level, two days before I got there myself. I knew there would be bloodsuckers around and I remembered the room where he first encountered them. Now I was low on ammo and had a pretty weak weapon in a bad condition. And I was stressed out of course by the whole mood of the place. I was particularly careful and moving slowly towards the place where I thought the bastards would be. Now as we all know the enemies move around a lot more than in your standard shooter, so I hid in what seemed like an unaccessible place to reload and make some room in my inventory before I engage them. I look around, sit down and I get clawed out of nowhere by these horrible freaks that uncloack all around me. I got a scare that almost made me physically ill. :(

Stalkers great, but to be honest i'd keep as much ammo as ya can. I found that the zombified stalkers dont give a **** about shots to the head. And that is the last place you want to run out of ammo, take it from me :( .
Im currently stuck on the mission where you attack that freedom base with like 10 duty soldiers, the reason im stuck is because within minutes all my teamates are dead, and im fending off 15 freedom soldiers.
@club haven. I got the lastest patch, and for some reason you seem to get better items, for example the trader at the start had a merc suit and a submachinegun (you know the UMP lookin one). before the patch he only seemed to have ammo and food/health.

What the traders offer you seems to be determined randomly, or it could be that they offer you much better stuff immediatly after you finished a mission for them.
Me I got a little fed up with the game. I just made my first scoop into the Red Forest area and, well, I dunno, admitably I packed the wrong rifle, after shelling out 40000 for that fancy sniper thing from the freedom arms guy, which fires 7.62 bullets, which are nowhere to be found in game, and thus I got stuck in the Red Forest which is nastily infested by mutants and Monoliths Stalkers without the amount of ammo I'd need...
I'll probably pick the game up some other time, but for now I've had enough out of it. Wasted most of the easter vacation on it.
Stalker's easily the best game I've played in a very long time. It's got its flaws allright, but they don't really matter much after you've got sucked in.

Graphic *****s? I dunno I used to be one too, but Stalker looks very nice in my book. Maybe I'm not playing "real" next gen stuff enough to "see" it.
Admitted, the character models and animations aren't the best there is.
Some textures are a bit on the low res side.
But in the overall impression, the game looks pretty stunning. Especially when lighting comes into play.
It's a given that the FEAR engine looks better (for example...), but I don't really want to see that one rendering acres of levels.
As for the Unreal 3 engine, well, that IS next gen stuff, but given that the Stalker engine is like 3-4 years old now, it compares rather well.

Yeah the lighting is mighty awesome.
Also, why does this game keep giving me like three new guns at once, im like "ooooh enfield, but wait what's this, LM-300ML Assault Rifle sweet, awww hell which one do i keep?". And so i spend a few agonsisng minutes weighing out the options. Until i decide i prefer the enfield.

I've got a bug that won't let the quicksaves work in Pripyat nor will it allow me to enter Chernobyl (without crashing). I can go in, get some good ammo/weapons, and get out, but if I die, I have to start over at the last autosave when exiting the Red Forest. So, instead of starting the game completely over yet, I've been playing lots of side missions. I've got a collection of almost every weapon, artifact, armor, etc., and thousands of rounds of whatever ammo you want (except pistols - a waste if you ask me). I don't remember how much money I've accumulated, but if I need a new armor, for example, I'll just go buy a new exoskeleton from Freedom and toss it when it's too torn up.
So one day I come back to the bar after a mission and Duty has turned on me. I can still get in and out (these Duty guys are green) but if the guards at the actual entrance to the Duty headquarters see me, they sound a general alarm and I have to lay low (or waste them). Sucks, because they sold some good things and I'm pretty sure I wasted their trader in a skirmish. How do I get back in their good graces?
Questions for the lot:
Where can I find ammo for the Gauss weapons?
Is it possible to get a Bullpup grenade launcher after you've turned it in to Duty?
Where can I find armor piercing ammo for the real sniper rifles?
Seriously, what's the difference between the shotgun ammo (standard, slugs, and darts)?
There are a number of weapons I have yet to see - are they only found in cadavers in Chernobyl or have I missed them in previous levels? I'm thinking of some of the higher-end shotguns and the FM-?? assault rifle, for example.
What artifacts do you actually use on your person? What's your preferred weapon? (I keep five Crystals and five Moonlights on my person for most forays, and will use five Koboloks when taking on dog packs). The Vintar BC is my weapon of choice for serious missions.

To be honest i havent got far enough into the game to answer most of your questions (game crashes fairly often for me). However as for artifacts I tend to get an overall balance. If i get an artifact that reduces bleeding alot but makes something else worse i try to find an artifact that cancels out the negative, so there is only a positive effect.

Yes, you quite often find huge packs of dogs, chewing on bodies and such. I personally like to go mono en mono, so I pull out my knife, yell " { INSERT GENERIC ONE LINER HERE }" and charge. Unless the battle goes sour, in which case i drop a grenade and leg it :D .

The respawn rates are probably the biggest problem of this game.
Of course it shouldn't be possible to wipe an area clean of bogies forever, but at least a few days should pass before the next 20+ bandits / random unfriendly stalkers / zombies / snorks / whatever just re-appear.
The rail entrance to the trainyard in garbage was littered with bodies cause there were CONSTANTLY bandits trying to get in. For, like, DAYS on. They get killed, while the next group has already spawned...
Of course they're a good source for low-end weapons and ammo and ****, but still. After awhile it just plainly sucks.

I actually like the fairly constant spawning of new groups of bandits or mercs. I'll agree that within the context of the game world, and the time-framing it uses it's entirely unrealistic, but it's one of those aspects that I'd say "to hell with realism". I'd rather have the heightened tension of being constantly on guard in the neutral areas. I don't find that it happens too often to be a detriment, and there's always the choice to book it if you just don't want to deal with the bastards.
Of course those are my thoughts so far.....I've only gotten to Lake Yantar so far, and after dealing with zombies for the first time, I sincerely hope they do not respawn at the same rate :(

I eventually got into a groove taking out those zombified bastards; headshots do more damage against them. Worse was those damnable snorks, either there crouched so low as to make them hard to hit, or they're leaping at you with a vicious claw swipe. Oh and buy the Tundra gun, best yet ;)
I think I'm starting to encounter a divergence in the game's plot. I completed the fun romp through X16 and shut off the Psi projector, and after talking with the scientists at their bunker, I received this mission to talk to someone named "Guide". Then he told me to go back to X18 to see someone named "Doctor".

When those snorks come a leapin' I try to spray em to no avail :(Snorks are probably my favorite. Load up your favorite shotgun and get them to leap at you. You have to nail them at basically point blank (and naturally, head shots are better), but it's quite satisfying to drop them from out of the air, especially when you consider that if you blow it, you're going to eat his attack and that single shots usually don't drop them.
Odd thing, maybe someone can explain? The 'shot' rounds seem to have more damage than the slug or dart rounds. The slug and dart rounds apparently have a more effective range, but that's what rifles are for, especially when you consider how inaccurate shotguns seem to be at a distance. I don't recall seeing a damage/accuracy value on the ammo.

I use the shotgun a lot on the dogs, boars and the like. It takes them down easy, unless there's a huge pack. As for the Snorks, I wait for them to leap, sidestep, and then nail them as they get their bearings. It's the same trick I use on the headcrabs in HL.
My favourite weapon is an Okaban w/ scope. It's a good all round assault rifle and a pretty good sniper rifle, as well. Bandits drop from one headshot, most of the others, two. The Trs 301 is a brilliant rifle, but it's not as versatile. So I've got one of each, and the shotgun from the portable science lab. Best of all, with 300 rounds for each, I'm only two kilos over. :)

At the end of the tunnel where you finally got your quarry, go into the caged in area to the right towards the back. The little square hole in the center of this one has a gap you can drop out of.
edit - regarding the shotguns, the SPAS14 is really well done in my opinion. It's just fun to shoot even though it's technically a worse shotgun than, say, the Chaser 13, it's way more fun to use. I'm actually thinking that it may be my fave from any FPS when you consider the look, feel, reload animation, sound, etc. (The shotty from HL2 is pretty close, mainly because you can use both barrels at once).

Quick Q: where's the secret tunnel out of X16?
Should be a ladder, or a crack in a large pipe, near where the Controller was. That leads down into the sewers where there is lotsa zombies. You'll then emerge in the pond where the snorks hang out, just to the west of the scientists bunker.
Some advice for newbies like me: pick up a sniper rifle (preferably Vintar BC) before venturing into the Red Forest. The Monolith STALKER's guarding the Brain Scorcher have an abundance of snipers, plus there assault rifle grunts are keen shots with their Obokan's & AKM's.
....and don't **** your pants if you see phantoms popping up behind you. Brown stains on an upholstered chair are hard to get out.

Brown stains on an upholstered chair are hard to get out.
Are you speaking from personall experience :D .
But yes, definitely take a sniper rifle with you. It's good for getting those pesky monolith people out of hard to reach places.Oh and take alot of anti-rad becasue there seems to be loads of pockets of high radiation.

I had completely ran out of rad hypo's early on in that level, and it seems every frickin vehicle is irradiated, so that made it all that much harder to find effective cover against an immediately tougher enemy group.
The Red Forest was certainly a difficulty wake-up call compared to the previous levels; not only because of the hardass Monolith faction, but half the level is under psi bombardment and has those respawning phantoms you have to shoot. I love it all, though, really brings the gameplay to a heightened sense of impending doom and accelerated anxiety.

Do you have any Crystal artifacts? Moonlight? Load a Moonlight or two (depending on your weight) and make the rest Crystals. You can sprint past irradiated cars and even if you pick up some radiation, it'll quickly dissipate. Loading five Crystals will let you endure all but the worst irradiated areas for a time. The Freedom leader gives them to me regularly for some of the chores I do for him (so it should work for you), but I'm not sure if the reward system is randomized? It sure doesn't seem that way, but it might be different from game to game.

No, seriously, we were just looking at photos and movies of the Chernobyl meltdown and the game is very accurate in it's description of the (ruined) plant layout and the local town (Pripyat). The fuel-lava flows, the biological shield, the cabling in the corridors, even the debris is seriously exactly what is in these pictures.

A double post, I know (Senator Hatesink is calling me to the dark side), but I thought it would be cool to debrief and share how we played, what artifacts and weapons we used, our favourite/least favourite bits, and what we though of Stalker overall.
Rank: Expert
Group: Loner
Reputation: Excellent
Ranking: 1333 (killed 870 stalkers, 184 mutants, 0 artifacts (huh?) 279 quests (I don't think it's a point per quest))
Cash: 69578Ru
I didn't do too well in the open, my main tatics were to either find cover and wait for them to come to me (there's a mass grave in one of the prefabs at Agroprom) snipe, or run (when the timer started for the blowout, I simply got past everybody by running from cover to cover- if they want to stay outside and die, that's fine by me. I'm outta' here).
Artifacts I kept were Slug, Mama's Beads, Soul, Slime (if I had paid more attention I wouldn't have used both Slime and Slug), and Flash. Soul was the best find, it kept the number of kits I needed down.
My favourite weapon overall was a Sniper Obokan, which I found on a dead loner near the Bar. Similar to the Obokan with scope, but much higher accuracy. A good alround assault rifle, and a pretty good sniper rifle too.
The VLA sniper rifle was a close second; good range and power, but ammo was scarce.
Lows: Being shot in the back in X10, when I had cleared out the rooms behind me, and there was no other way in.
Saving a game, dying, re-loading, finding enemies in front of me who weren't there when I saved, dying again.
I sold almost everything I had to buy a Stalker suit. I checked my tasks to discover I hadn't picked up my reward for a quest, and when I got it- it was a Stalker suit (this was in the Bar in the space of about 30 seconds).
Highs: watching an enemy seek cover only to die in an anomaly. Finding Soul early in the game. Finding three black EVA suits near the Merc headquaters. Still having two of them there before going into Pripyat and Chernobyl.
Overall; Apart from the bugs, the cheating (see lows), and the anal level of realism (I staved to death, again. I can't move because I'm too heavy, and now I'm a sitting du- dead. Again. Two shots to the head- well, you get the idea), I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was like being in a living, breathing world, and it felt like it didn't revolve around me, if I wasn't there, it carried on regardless.
And as a tour of the Ukraine, it was wonderful. That alone was worth the $70.
When I get my Rig upgraded, I'll play it again on easy so I can spend more time exploring the Zone in all its decrepit splendor.

I think the quest points may be a count of every single green target point in the PDA, which includes returning to received your reward. Even so, the number seems high. Will check…..
Artifacts I used were Slug, Mama's Beads, Soul, Moonlight (higher level Flash). I think I used two Slugs to keep the bleeding way down. Soul was a given needed artifact for later portions of combat, and Moonlight helped me keep running in tight situations even when overburdened.
My favorite weapons were the TRs301, for its lightweight, moddability and power. The Vintar BC fully automatic sniper rifle was all I used in battling the Monolith, and it’s all I needed. Best weapon in the game until getting the FTM2000 deep in Chernobyl, though its clip size left a lot to be desired.
I usually saved my money exclusively to shore up my ammo and by new suits. It’s pretty hilarious in the game when you can walk two feet from a STALKER, pick up a gravi artifact lying around, and sell it to him for over a thousand.
My tactic was usually finding cover after detecting blips and seeing the red dots, lobbing an F1 grenade their way, then let them come to me to see where it came from, kind of a “WTF was that” style of ambush. I wish the game came with an underhand roll for grenades, I kept lobbing a few too far over a group of bandits. Tis the only thing missing in the great control feeling in the FPS.
EDIT: Checked my PDA completed quests tab, I counted 141 green dots for completion of quest particulars. Sounds like they multiply it by 3 to give you the points for quests.

Where does Moonlight hide?Your favorite weapon was the Sniper Obokan? Did you get the Vintar BC, the FT200M, the GP37 or at least the TSR301? What did you like about the Sniper Obokan? I notice you kept Flash on your person. Did you come across a Moonlight? Where did you find the Mama's Beads?Yes. I got the TSR, yes. Its versatility- with the way I played I would always try to find cover and snipe if I could, and run and gun If I couldn't- it worked well in both roles, plus I had ammo out the wazzo for it. No. On the side of the road, somewhere.

I found quite few of the Moonlights in the underground section at the Agroprom Research center and also in the tunnel with all the electro anomalies (to the left of the broken bridge when you leave Cordon).
So seriously, now that you've finished the game, what were the rarest artifacts? I've been playing the same campaign since it came out and have found untold numbers of all the artifacts except for Mama's Beads and Night Star (both of which I've only found one). I'm curious if it's a game-defined limit or if there's an inch of the map somewhere that I've missed. Koloboks, Batteries (both types), Springboards, Souls... I find these all the time, but the Mama's Beads and Night Star I've only encountered once.
Did you ever find the armor-piercing version of the sniper rifle ammo? I found a handful of the 'sniper' version of these shells, but never the armor-piercing version.

Adabiviak
05-02-2007, 10:21 PM
Anyone. There are some bona-fide sniper rifles to be found in the game (namely two, not including the Gauss rifle) that use three different types of ammo. The ammo comes in long, dark green boxes with the same banding to identify the type (no band/plain, black stripe/armor piercing, yellow stripe/sniper). I've found 34 rounds of the plain and 17 of the sniper, 0 of the armor piercing. The 34 I got by milking the snipers in Pripyat. I wonder if the armor piercing variety is obtainable throughout the normal course of a game?
Also! I saw my first pseudogiant outside today. It's only the third one I've seen, hopefully they'll start breeding.

I agree - each subsequent journey through the zone I become more and more jaded, and you realise just how devestatingly short of all it's promises this game is.
Having said that, I always feel compelled to praise the game for the things that it did get right - the "world design" was amazing. The grass swaying in the wind, leaves blowing around, the sunsets, the storms, the attention to detail in the cities, the underground tunnels, the abandoned labs, it's all freaking amazing.
But I think the things that really leave let the game down are:
- AI - not only would they casually walk into fires and anomalies, but they have all the personality of a tree stump.
- Sound - in general the sound was just sub-standard. Not only the quality of the sounds used (the weapon-draw sound is horrible!), but also the way distant sounds sound far too close. (I won't even mention the repeating dialoge - oops I just did).
- Story - I'm a huge fan of Deus Ex, so complex stories don't scare me, it's just that they need to be well told, and unravel at a compelling pace.
.... I'll stop now. </rant>

I suppose this is only slightly on topic (although I was playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at the time), but my wife stepped on a solfugid in her bare feet in the kitchen. Off topic: I didn't know what a solfugid was until Googled it. I have arachnophobia to a nth degree, so I can't imagine stepping on a spider barefoot :(
On-topic: There is a fair dose of randomization in the game in regards to stashes, but they should still make sense, meaning the enemies carry weapons ammo and kits that they would depending on who they represent. The new patch also changed things up a bit, so you may not get the same major stashes you were used to in the original.

Every game develops like that. The Dev team has lots of ideas which they build and test. If people don't get them (eg: Plasmi-Quik), they're no fun (HL2's Hydra), or to resource intensive to do properly, they get cut.

I was thinking, artifacts are quite large. Your average Stalker sure would look strange with 5 of those twinkling away on his belt. I'd say there's a good reason they're not rendered on the stalker models .. That would have been sweet though, and I heard they intended that in early conceptual builds, but not only did they say it looked goofy. Since anomalies gave off visual cues, it made it a notch easier to shoot enemies, so they dumped it when balancing difficulty.
What I wanted them to include was some comical animations of picking up the artifacts, such as a 'hot-potato' animation when picking up fireball, a 'finger-zap' animation when picking up Moonlight, a 'morocca' animation for Mama's Beads, a 'mentos, the freshmaker' animation for picking up Soul, etc....

The game is still bug-ridden no matter what fixes and patches you install, but your problems sound more severe than others I've heard. Possibly hardware / driver / software incompatibility issues? Hope you get it sorted out.

Well, Raveness told me to post here, so here is my list of items in Stalker!
But first, let me tell you that on the main quest I am currently in the last room of X18 (under The Dark Valley) and I need to kill the flying transparent creepy thing.
Weapons (all of which have the little arrow pointing up, meaning they are special):
Fast-shooting Akm 74/2 (with PS0-1 scope)- found it in Strelok's stash under the Agroprom Research Institute. Around 75-85% in terms of health? (I love it). :D
"Tunder" 5.45 (similar to the gun that many Duty soldiers cary around the Bar, but uses 5.45x39 mm rounds, and has a grenade launcher)- found it on a Duty soldier that had been mauled by wild dogs right outside of the Bar... poor guy. Around 80-90% (Yeah, it's called "Tunder").
Fort-15 (experimental)- found it on a soldier when I refused to pay, so killed all of the people under the railroad area in Cordon. It works great, I don't know why it's experimental. 95-100%
Artifacts:
Slug (Bleeding -267%) (Burn -10%)
Fireball (Radiation -20) (Endurance -18)
Soul (Health +600%) (Impact, Rupture, Bullet Proof Cap -10%)- This has saved my life so many times! ;)
Flash (Endurance +73) (Electric Shock -10%) Good for running.
Clothes:
Monolith Suit- Just found it in a locker in X18, good thing too! :)
Ammo:
5.45x39 mm (613)- yeah, you heard me, 613 rounds! :p
9x18 mm (148)- for my side arm, but I rarely use it anyway. Mostly just for dogs. I need to dump it.
Explosives:
RGD-5 grenade (6, I think, but I forgot to write it down)
VOG-25 grenade (2)- used for the "Tunder"
Health:
Medkit (14)- I use these more than bandages, since I have +600% health.
Army first aid kit (12)
Scientific first aid kit (3)
Bandages (31)- I need to dump these too!
Misc:
Tourist's Delight (11)- But I need to eat one soon, so 10.
Energy Drink (12)- I only need these for running through radiation.
Antiradiation Drugs (15)- I should add a few more...
2 Extra PS0-1 scopes- can you detach a scope that is already on a gun?
Areas Explored:
Cordon
Garbage- I have a lot of friends there lol
Agroprom
Bar
The Dark Valley
Oh! and I did the Duty Arena (don't know if there is a Freedom one). I did all of the ones I could at my level (Expert? can't remember).

Hello fellow Cultists, just bought Stalker a lil bit ago, playing it. Its fun. Actually harder then I imagined. Just a question from me to you...
Stashes - I find them all over the place, but they are empty. Why?

They have to be 'activated' by finding info on a dead stalker's body. In some cases, this doesn't guarantee that it'll have stuff in it. Also, when they're 'activated', these stashes will be marked on your PDA in purple. Stashes that aren't marked usually won't have stuff in them.

Finding info on dead bodies is definately what you need to do, though in some places that can be a pain - like when you have mown down a load of people and need to move all the bodies from a pile...
check the official stalker forums as well - theres a thread where some people went on a killing spree and piled up all of the bodies :)

Ahh, that makes sense.
This game is like...a fun hell for me, because I'm one of those people that NEVER saves.

STALKER is the biggest disappointment in FPS games I have ever spent $40 on.
Buggy, has had numerous patches and nothing what they promised during development.
And, to top it all off, while the game is still buggy and unfinished they are making a new game and saying, "Spend another $40 and we promise this time we will giv e you what we promised"
Not. That game blows meat chunks. Do a mission, run ALLLLLLL the way back to get the reward, go ALLLLLLL the way back to another mission.
Boring....and repetitive.

it does get boring and repetitive at times, but its still a fun game.
I've suffered a glitch or 2 - enemies spawning right in front of you (once so far), shooting someone at point blank and not giving them any damage etc
The latest patch sorts some of the glitches out and makes the game run better, so its worth it in my opinion.

The bugs really got in the way of otherwise good game. The devs really shafted the consumer.

Stalker was very very awesome. I think i must be weird. As i seem to enjoy games despite the bugs. E.g. gothic 3. (i loved that a LOT and everyone went haywire over the bugs, well i didn't really notice them that much)
Stalker for me was awesome. Though i am a save-obsessor and had like 500mb of saves at the end of it. Had to go clean them up and keep only every 20th one after finishing it. In terms of playing around with ai and awesome guns and the 7 diff endings (though really only 2 diff choices... true/false) made this game. Never played the multiplayer at all except the beta of it. But the single player had this nice grudgey... i am sooo gonna die around this corner or over this hill feel to it.
Last point: it def. won't be near goty status or anything. But a very decent fps.

Its so awesome that im going through it again :)
i'm actually searching every single body so far - i normally only search military/faction member corpses - but i've found some interesting stash locations this time.
In a way its a bit like Bioshock - you find something new every time

DING DING DING, we have a winner.
Stalker was the biggest disappointment ever. They have all but abandoned stalker and are trying to get clear sky up and running, saying it is going to have what stalker was supposed to deliver.
What? What Stalker was SUPPOSED to deliver? $40 mistake and they want me to spend another $40 on another title that is supposed to be what they promised? Are you kidding me?
I predict Clear Sky will end up in the bargain basement in a matter of weeks. No developer wants to go near this game it seems. Who would want too.
Stalker is their eyes being bigger than their stomachs. Just like when you think you are hungry and go hit the buffet line and then pile it on and get to your table and cannot finish it all and spend the next few minutes trying to convince everyone that you are working on it.
I would rather deal with 2k giving us ports than buying anything from gsc ever. Bunch of clowns.
