Ok, what I;m wondering is if my Computer can handle BioShock. I'm not very good with computers btw. What I have is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core processor, 960 Mb of RAM, 163 GB of Hard Drive left (I can make room), and a Nvidia Geforce 6150. My computer is a HP pavilion a1430n that's about 1.5 years old. If It isn't good enough can you please tell me what to improve (and how to) in the most cost effective manner. I'd prefer the graphics to be decent, but enough to do it is good enough.

Again sorry if this is in the wrong place (I'm new), fell free to move it or delete it (but an answer would be nice :)

You can run it, but not with very good specs.

Your processor should be fine, but if I were you I would get a Nivida 8600 GPU, and probably 1 or 2 more gigs of ram. Then you should be just fine.

Check tiger direct. They had a sale with for 2 gigs of ram for 99 dollars and you can find the 8600 GPU pretty cheap there to.

Should be good, but i don't know about the vidcard. (it may not support shader 3_ If you have the money and a PCIe slot i would recommend picking up a 8600gt off of newegg. Their only 115 right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085

8600 GT: (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3048551&CatId=1560) $104.00
2 gigs of Ram: (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2206874&Sku=C13-2022) $79.00

This would probably be the cheapest way for you to upgrade to higher end settings.

The price of high end computers alone force me to console gaming sadly.

How will lack of RAM hurt my gameplay? Will it just run a bit slower?

You'll have very annoying pauses and short freezes in gameplay while it retrieves data from the very much slower hdd cache.

What kind of proc? There are many that fall into that category. And the 8600GT is crap. Get an X1950XT or 8600GTS

Got a budget in mind Zoidberg?

I doubt I'll go higher then 125$, at least not at once. I mean it's a great game, but that's a bit extreme.

How is the 8600gt crap? Hell i believe in one of the GT previews thats what they were using.

Get an X1900/X1950 or 8600GTS or 7900GS

And don't start with DX10. The 8800s struggle with that.

Hello, I just bought bioshock and installed it, and every time I try to start it up, I get this message: "Bioshock.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." I was wondering if it was my processor, as I can't tell what else it could be. My system: Windows XP home, AMD Sempron Processor
3000+, 1.81 GHz, 1.87 GB of RAM. NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 video card(I think). On second thought, it might be my video card. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Since this is bioShock-related, I'm going to move this to the BioShock Technical Support forum.

Well, could you give me some information beyond that? Such as is it my processor too, and some suggestions as to which video cards and/or processors I could buy...?

The minimum requirements to run BioShock on the PC are:
2.4GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB hard drive space, 128MB videocard, Internet connection

Your config is:
AMD Sempron Processor
3000+, 1.81 GHz, 1.87 GB of RAM. NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 video card

Your processor is too slow (1.81 GHz < 2.4 GHz).
Nevermind, you gotta replace the graphics card too:
Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550). All the sources I'm reading say if you want to stick with NVIDIA you'll need 6600 or better.

Even if you meet the minimum requirements, your system can still feel lag (or not play BioShock to it's full potential - graphics wise). So it's best to get components that'll surpass the mini. reqs. so that you play it at the highest settings without bogging down your computer.
