Dr. Locke
04-28-2008, 10:49 PM
Hello all! Here is another thread presented to you be the one and only.... Dr. Locke!:D
Now what I want you to do here is go to paint or some king of program that enables you to draw, and draw a screenshot of Bioshock or whatever, it doesn't have to be a screenshot. It does not have to be Paint, use whatever you want, you may even draw it on paper and upload it here, whatever you want!
People may judge your artwork on a scale of one to ten, and I will create a list right here to show who has the top ratings!

Ah, do you have photobucket or something? When you're done, save your picture and upload it from your computer into photobucket. Or imageshack.

thats pretty good :) was that done on Paint? If so even better, Paint is so hard to use to make anything decent on
well here's my BD drawing so far
http://imagehustler.com/files/495/DSC00406a.jpg
not worked on it in a few weeks still need to finish a few bits and add the background. Still miles off being finished, only 1 of the 3 sheets and just in sketch form. Once the full drawing is done i'll be colouring it all too in pastels so will be ages before its done. Some of it needs re-drawing too im not good at getting proportions right

Anyone here ever heard of a Buddha Board? They are the neatest thing I have ever seen! Perfect for the beginning or hobby artist, you paint on a special plate with water only, in a second the water turns into bold color, and u can live in the moment with ur masterpiece, soon the water evaporates and ur slate is clean again. Look it up! It is awesome!
And Atlas, cannot wait till ur done with that!
^The above is not SPAM!

I'll try to make something between a sketch and a drawing of a BD this week.
I don't want to go all the way, as I'm more a scenery artist of cartoonist. And let's face it; BD's are of no use for both (however, if it goes wrong I can always make a scenery thing).
Mind if its B/W?
(posting this as I got this feeling where I want to go do something, but my drawing stuff is at home (ooh, if I can find the time for it I might even be able to do a bit of aquarel-like (water-colour) rapture thing :D )).

First of all; thanks for the positive reactions.
And I know it is a good looking thing, but in my eyes, considering what I was capable of, it's flawed. But then again, there was a time I was seriously thinking of becoming a designer. Too bad I never kept my drawing "fresh". Maybe if I do some more, I'll be able to make them look even better.
(Once again, please don't take me wrong. I'm very grateful of your reactions, and it was a very nice experience to see I can still do a good drawing. It's just that I know that I can do better. And as stated somewhere else; I can be a perfectionist at some times).
[edit: I just noticed I forgot one of the "bars" going over the "face". The one on the top, right side. There's a little plug thing where it should fit in, but I just forgot to add it :D]

But every phone, camera, scanner in my house is either broken, disabled or not here.
EDIT: I drew a Little Sister but the needle was hard so a faded it out, and I updated the Big Daddy!

Hey does anyone have a picture of Sander Cohen's mask? I finished him and am looking to add more and make like a Sander mural. I looked in the screen shot thread but all I could find was a white one. Heres an update of mine. Pretty much finished the drawing a few weeks ago then forgot about it. Got back to it tonight adding the first of the colour (has come out blue in the photo, is alot more greenish than that. I do need to make it a bit darker as well though)
http://imagehustler.com/files/669/DSC00449a.jpg
I didnt go a great job on the Little Sister, i cant really draw people. The BD's helmet also doesnt look quite right to me. Hopefully it looks better once its all in colour :)
Thats one of the three anyway, once i get this one completely coloured i'll start drawing the two to go either side of this one (just cause the fist and the drill got cut off, need to finish them over more paper)

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and post some instead of making up lame excuses about lost CDs and scanners?
You have a digital camera with a memory card, right? Does your computer have a card reader? Probably not, so go buy one. They're cheap.
If you don't want to buy one take your card to Walgreen's and have the pictures put on a disk/CD and then put them on your computer. It would cost less than a buck probably.
See, was that hard? If I could figure it out you should have been able to as well.
Now either go do it or quit bragging.

I guess thats how you did your avatar, used your drawing then coloured over in photoshop? I've never tried doing that before, im no good at making things from scratch on PS might have to try it ;)

Thanks for the kind words, guys! :D
Actually Atlas., the original picture that I saw (the one that's my avatar) appeared to be touched up quite nicely in PS. They had blended some colors together for some nice shading, and added some realistic looking blood on the character....it was really nice. The one I posted was my redrawing on basic paper with color pencils. They also left out some details, such as the gloves and boots, that I added in.
There are a few other characters, I've always wanted to do. If I ever get around to it - Peach Wilkins and Martin Finnegan. I'll post 'em up if I do :)
Atlas.

Ah right, I thought you made your avatar. Is a good drawing tho :) I guess drawing then filling on photoshop would work tho to create an avatar that looks like that? I've always wondered how to make stuff like that on photoshop, unless its a different program of course..

uh...yeah, maybe? I'm not too sure, as the picture in my avatar did not specify. And I'm no PS pro hehe :p ...it definitely wasn't just hand drawn though. The amount of shading and realistic colors, allows me to believe that some areas of lighting and color were messed with to get the "glowing" effect in some areas. I really should start messing around with PS more.

Great, my piece will start today. I just have to be careful about one thing... Symmetry. It's time we did something about symmetry.
I'm drawing something unique, not your averge little sister or Big Daddy. It is like a piece of Art, the smae style (maybe not quality), but it tries to make that impression a piece of art does.

This is a very early work in progress of a 3D model of the Little Sister's needle. Would you kindly note that it's still got a lot of modeling left to do, such as welding the parts together rather than just having them pieced together like they are now, a bunch of adjustments and then texture it so it's not so brand spanking shiny. What you see right now is just temporary textures to break the parts up, and because it's shinier than a simple gray model. And everyone likes shiny things. Especially me. The final piece will be rusted and stuff.
I know it's not the most complex and intricate of models, but it's just for fun. Maya 2008 be my tool.
http://www.box.net/shared/static/8ybt96vt1x.png
I also felt compelled to put the unfinished model in a scene I was already working on for no reason. http://faded-myth.deviantart.com/art/Clutter-97474685

Actually, I like it just the way it is. He has a wonderful eye for composition--your eye is instantly drawn to the glowing eye ports of the Big Daddy, then the slightly blurry drill (great effect, makes the depth of field "pop"), then you travel down the details of his body and finally notice the Little Sister, doing a little mental double-take. The best kinds of images are those that evolve as you look at them. The Little Sister not being immediately noticeable provides an added surprise as you view the artwork. I dig it.
Très bon!

I loved the 'Disney on ice' productions I saw as a kid, and "Bioshock: On ice" Would take the cake for a perfect blend of dork/awesome.
I hate to admit it, but seeing Andrew Ryan doing a song version of his opening speech (a la "I chose RAPTURE") Would be pretty cool :P

I think the 'breaking the mold' text is a nice addition, if it had a different background. The white detracts from the 'retro' look and feel of the rest of the image. Make it brown or something, and it'll look great :D

Before you all jump on the bandwagon and say "that isn't bioshock art!", allow me to explain my piece first.
My idea was "what if bioshock were a different kind of underwater survivor, and the citizens of rapture were aquatic animals?"
I drew a 'living' security camera, a big daddy and a little sister.
Try to keep an open mind ^^;

COOL, you drew the Slowpro? I'd like to see Slowpro sketches!
HVNSNTSOLDIER
05-03-2009, 08:36 AM
Well, technically, i did steal a bit of inspiration from them, but my design isn't the new Slowpro design. It's a normal sized big daddy with one hand clutching a Steam Cannon, the other a cannon Shot. The head resembles a bit of the Dead Space protagonist's helmet, the whole glowing eyeslits and such.
The Next one I'm planning to do is a bit different. Same build as a regular Big Daddy, but will look ramshackled and thrown together... almost as if it was repaired with whatever was at hand. Metal scraps, old piping, cracked glas visors, etc. Also, it's main weapon of choice will be... a giant, rusty ANCHOR!
Possible electric hook-up for electric attacks, but this will come later:D
Custom hero... still working out the designs but I'm pretty sure on a 1960's mafia style outfit. Not the whole zuit-suit, ganger hat type deal, mind you. I'm thinking of a loose business shirt, brown business pants, holster and pistol, tommygun, pump shotgun, newsboy's hat,and various other gadgets and targeting equptment. No name yet, but the project's codename is officially: "The Messenger."
Hope you like them, the descriptions anyway:D I'll be finishing the first Big Daddy very soon, hopefully in time to scan sometime today or tomorrow!

Well, I previously said I wasn't that good, so I tried my hand at a Little Sister. I'm kinda proud of it. I made her look more sweet and innocent than the original art depicts. I don't know what I did to acheive that, though. Maybe it's her slight smile.
Edit: Sorry for the low quality image. I don't have a scanner, so I had to use my webcam.

05-05-2009, 10:53 AM
Well, I got bored today and wanted to make use of my tablet in Photoshop. I'm hopeless at drawing stuff from scratch, so I started tracing over an old screenshot/wallpaper from Bioshock.
Keep in mind that this is a very early work-in-progress, the outer edges are especially incomplete, but you'll get an idea of the style I'm going for.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1336/65100229.jpg
At first, I just quickly traced over with a basic fill colour, and then started adding some shading and texture. I then added more detail such as the view port things, that... seam thing down the middle, etc. Unfortunately I forgot to actually make the resolution higher, but maybe I can still do that and then add smaller details and fix up the blurry edges that would result. I'll see how that goes some time later.
Constructive criticism is very much welcome.

Your drawing is a lot better than I think I'd do. I'm good at shading and stuff, but getting the right shape(especially humans, they're the hardest to draw) is a trouble.
Over all it looks pretty good to me.
Maybe I could do a colour and shading job on it for you? I've been wanting to do some sort of collaboration with someone for a while now.

Cool. You wouldn't happen to have some sort of access to a scanner, would you? Maybe a friend or family member has one, maybe you go to a school that has one you can use?
I can still work with a photo, but scanned would be best. And in the highest resolution and best quality possible.
Also, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if I post it on my DeviantArt page when it's done? I'll make it very clear that you made the original drawing.
