View Full Version : Better member titles

There is certainly enough nomenclature that could be derived from known Bioshock materials or Randian philosophy that we can make custom member titles from, rather than just having "Junior Member, Senior Member, Advanced Member"
Anyone have any titles they'd like to see in place of the generic one's we currently have? Offer up some suggestions and maybe we can get Mum to change them :)

How about these ones ?
(no particular order)
- official forum clown
- annoying uninformed kid
- horny grown-up
- wiki intellectual
- get-a-life artist
- clueless moderator
- innocent vamp
- helpful attention *****
This reminds me of a fantastic site which should be mandatory for everyone who ever posted on a forum. Most of you probably know it, but it can't hurt to refresh your memory :)

Is there a way to separate the emoticons from the image tag images?
I'm guessing it's probably more trouble than it's worth.
Edit: I guess I'm probably trouble enough for Elizabeth without making these kinds of requests :p;)

Splicer adeptI'm not sure that we should name ourselves after "the enemy" (sorry Splicer (http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/member.php?u=412) ;)) since I think on some level it causes conflict.
I post to ttlg.com under the name TheManySingsTheBlues and I've never experienced such levels of hostility on a forum (I took "the many sings the blues" as my user name basically because sometimes, if you're listening carefully to the background noise in SS2 there's a Many sound file that sounds like it says "The many sings the blues"), and I genuinely believe that on some levels the phrase "the many sings the blues" causes a lot of dissonance for some people.
I chose it because I thought it was ironic, given that a lot of the metaphors used by the many are to do with music.
Edit: I also chose it so that a few people might hear it and basically jump out of their seats thinking some errant forum poster had broken into their house ;)

Thanks Mum :) Try and gather some suggestions from the Irrational team, I'm sure they can't find some fitting titles.
I've reworded mine:
0-29: Stem-cell sibling
30-99: Lab monkey
100-499: Genetic elite
4th level: DNA director
5th level: Nietzschean overman

Before I make further suggestions, I think that "Rapture Cultist" should be in somewhere and this title should show great addiction to the community.

Hatchling? The reason I suggested this was that someone read (I think it was) 'Hatchery' on the white board in one of the photos of the 2K office, so presumably at some point something may hatch (but I'm guessing whatever it is probably won't be friendly, so maybe 'Hatchling' isn't that great a name).
I'm wondering if we know enough about the game to make good suggestions.
It seems to have a nineteen twenties aesthetic and people talk about it a lot in those terms, but it's set in the nineteen fifties. Maybe there are names specific to those eras that might be suitable.
I'm guessing 'Big Daddy' has to make the list.
A few ideas:
New Arrival (or how about 'fresh blood';))
Rapture Tourist (Thanks to LEC (and of course RT;) for that one)
Rapture Resident (although I prefer just 'Resident' —it sounds better and it's probably more sticky.)
Rapture Cultist (I agree with RT on this one (I don't think Raveness should have dropped it from her suggestions, I think it's great))
Big Daddy (I'd like it if we could think up such good options that this wasn't used, but hey, who am I kidding, how could it possibly not be used ;) )
If they're separable by sex then I think 'Little Sister' would be great for a new girl but I'm guessing there'd have to be a male equivalent (which might screw up the list)
Edit: A couple more...
"Baby Vamp: an attractive or popular female, student" (http://home.earthlink.net/~dlarkins/slang-pg.htm) —for if it's separable by sex. 'Little Sister' could lead to 'Baby Vamp'.
Also— "Crasher: a person who attends a party uninvited" (is it ironic that the player character 'crashes'?)
Débutante?
(I've been looking at some nineteen-fifties slang, but I've not really found anything that 'cool'. There's some stuff that might be applicable, but it's not really 'cool' (e.g. 'Dolly' for a cute girl)

Same here, but Lovecraft's original collection of stories never focused on such traditional folklorish baddies, rather he had a disdain for them and imagined a legion of unconscionable alien beings that we could not hope to understand fully.
Derleth tended to take the route of a "good vs. evil" approach, sprinkling in generic monster types like the ones mentioned, and made the GOO's and Elder Gods susceptible to our technology or archaic scientific methods. What a hack
Besides, these titles are meant for Bioshock. I like some of your suggestions, maybe I'll try implementing them on my Cthulhu site.

Number of BioShock threads at forums.2kgames.com: 230
Number of NON BioShock threads (including all these off topic ones): 111
So based on that data right now anyway BioShock-themed member names make sense.
However based on the fact that Hatesink posts accrue faster than the US Nat'l Debt;):p , they might decide to put in titles that liken us to Rhesus monkeys (and I don't even know what those two have to do with each other!).
The problem is that the ultimate title for that chain is "Escapee from the Von Braun", which clearly fits more for a forum for some other completely non-related *coughcough* game...
Raveness
04-13-2007, 08:52 PM
I think any member titles dealing with System Shock 2 should be based around the decks of the Von Braun. Ex:
1st title = Engineering grease monkey
2nd title = Med/Sci sexy nurse
3rd title = Hydroponics tree hugger
4th title = Operations android
5th title = Recreations superpimp
6th title = Command Astro-Nut
I so, so, so want to be a sexy nurse. I need that rank.
