Are religion and politics allowed to be discussed around here ? I'm just curious for now... on many other forums they're taboo and people are encouraged to talk only about pink ponies and such. Most of the time when someone used to say something on the subject, it was quickly labeled as offensive by fanatic and closed minds (even though it clearly wasn't), and the poor guy would end up with short-term bans or worse. I'm not talking about myself here, so don't ask me for details.

I don't remember anything specific about it in the membership agreement but I'm still not too sure if we're allowed to discuss that kind of thing (or if it's wise;))

I guess you'd have to wait for 2K'beth or a moderator to log on to confirm that it's okay but, as I say, I don't think there was anything in the user agreement preventing us from discussing that kind of thing.

I can't even find a Terms of Service around here, but due to the edge-pushing nature of the game, I doubt it'd be a problem, but waiting for an answer just to safe is a wise idea.

I know what you mean about being shunned for talking about "taboo" subjects on forums, especially gaming forums. I got temp banned in one once because someone said something about a muslim blowing up a building as a joke, and someone else said that was racist, and I said "no it's not racist, it's being discrimitory because of religion, you suggesting that all muslims belong to a certain race is racist" and they banned me for being too religious.

I'll leave the popular cnet.com affiliate game site unnamed.

I can understand their intention to keep things nice and peaceful, cause often it's complete idiots posting in those threads just taking advantage of the opportunity to insult someone with differents views or beliefs. But there's also intelligent and sensitive people willing and able to have a civilized discussion on such matters. But the lengths some moderators go to make their forums look politically correct is ridiculous. Erase thread, warnings, bans... and of course they miss the off-topic retards and punish those who actually said something worth reading. A handful of posts that were worth more than the sum of all the rest have been deleted just to keep loudmouth and easily offended hypocrits happy. I saw this happen plenty of times on many forums.
So, I want to know how flexible the system is around here.

i don't think it should be a problem, as long as you don't insult each other and similar things... ;) but i guess we should wait for Elizabeth.

hey guys.

all topics are okay on the forums, as long as they aren't downright offense to other members, illegal, or otherwise really bad form. and as long as we can all stay mature and civil, religion topics are okay by me.

i may close any threads that get too heated, but we're not into censorship here. we liked the randian debates, so bring it on.

to be honest, and i consider myself to be more than liberal,i can't see any relevance at all to the above thread,if you honestly want to stand on a soapbox and deliver your sermon on religion, colour or creed, surely there are far more rewarding forums in which that can be better articulated.I.m also trying hard not to sound like a purist here, but a games forum,a recreational zone is no place for religous and political debate, tempers will flare, threats will be exchanged and before we know it,there will be no forum, please dont let this happen. Sincerly,SPLICER:(

My one basic belief about religion is that religion is politics ("God save us from true believers")

Spirituality however is another matter

...but I'm not sure how far we actually want to take this whole 'Cult of Rapture' thing ;) although I guess it could be cool, as long as I get to wear the big hat (although that'd probably be Elizabeth's prerogative :/ )

Now why do you have to say something like that ? My question was very clear and so far no one else misinterpreted my intention. I am not here to "stand on a soapbox and deliver my sermon on religion". No need to jump to conclusions just because my nick contains the word "Heaven". And many people here seem quite qualified to give pertinent opinions on such delicate issues, who cares if it's a game's forum + we're in the off-topic section where anything goes. So, in order to save you from re-reading the thread, I'll repeat that I was only curious on the matter of censoring in case future discussions will move in that direction.
Sincerely, a guy who's anything but a religious preacher.

@2K Elizabeth > it's good to hear it, one more reason to stay :)

I thought you actually wanted to get a discussion going.

Edit: With regards protocols for posting to the forum I think everyone should be required to watch MC 900's Tiptoe Through the Inferno (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9XjzEZnBs8&mode=related&search=) at least once :p;)

I take a ten-minute break every twenty minutes to re-establish blood-flow, but generally I'm sitting down and either online or playing a game to take my mind off of the discomfort of the hanger (It's not really something you'd throw on to relax ;))

I do stand on occasion if I'm experiencing pain, but generally I'm always sitting.

Nope. Just wanted to know what exactly are the rules on these forums.

On a serious note (since the matter of Censorship has come up)

This has been on my mind for a while...

I was posting to http://www.depressionforums.org (under the name Huge) and had a couple of my posts censored because I talked about my hobby— I hang weights from a certain part of my body in order to increase its length (to the initiated, this is called 'hanging')

I've been 'hanging' almost every day for almost two and a half years (up ten hours a day some days) and am about two months away from achieving my ultimate length goal. This is tied closely (it seems) to my depression (my therapists also seem to think so), so I thought I'd talk about it at http://www.depressionforums.org, but when I did so my posts were censored.

At the time that my posts were censored they had a 'protected forum' where sufferers of child abuse could post. This bothered me greatly, and I've since stopped posting there, basically because if I were six years old and ******* my Dad I'd be able to write about it at http://www.depressionforums.org, but as a 33 year old man I can't write about hanging weights from my body at http://www.depressionforums.org without having my posts censored.

Also— I'd just like to say, what's the deal about it being taboo to talk about that kind of abuse, since it seems that it suits the people committing these heinous acts more than it does anybody else for everyone to just not talk about it. Sometimes I think it's the people who shout and scream the loudest and who bully, threaten and intimidate who have the most to hide.

That's all I wish to say on the topic. I do not wish to discuss this topic and will not respond to anybody posting on the topic. I recommend that nobody does.

If you need to lock this thread, please go ahead.

Edit: They also edited the explanation of the origin of my username. It was a shortened version of my last girlfriend's nickname for me, that I'd shortened and taken on for obvious reasons: the full nickname was 'Huge Monkey' which she called me because she thought I was like a huge monkey, but 'Huge Monkey' was also censored.

that's just a little disturbing... but 'hanging' is a legitimate practice in some parts of asia. It's just that they try to 'hang' even more weight as time goes by. i was a video on our "cultural experience" show on the ABC, and one of these people was hanging another person (the hanger was standing on two raised columns.
:P

EDIT: forgot to mention, they use it to improve their ***life as well

It is disturbing— I don't post there any more. A site with its values so out of balance isn't really somewhere I want to be. Plus everyone there is so depressed all the time (it's a drag :p)

I've seen a clip of a Chi Gun master hanging incredible weights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFfhxVmdXZ4&search=Chris%20Crudelli) (I really just do it for extra length, I hang very low weights for many sets more or less all day.) My therapists think it's something to do with my depression, and I think they might be right— when I have to take a break (to limit the amount of weight I need to maintain my length gains) I get very confused and unhappy. The guy in that vid says it promotes hormone production, so I'm probably going to run that idea past my psychiatrist and see what he thinks.

***=pie???

Is that what the 'pie' thread's about? (i.e. 'Do you like pie or sausage?')

If so, I guess I should probably remove the Monster Squad links (D'oh!) ;)

Edit: Also, with regards one of your earlier posts, if you mean what I think you mean— I know ;)

All day? So do you have to surf the net, game, or otherwise perform any chill out activity while standing up?

Thanks for the unwanted mental image :p ;)

I do stand on occasion (no pun intended) if I'm experiencing pain, but generally I'm always sitting (and no, I'm not wearing the hanger just at this moment, ;) I'm taking a longer break to let the blood circulate (I've so far hung fourteen 20-minute sets today))

1) no, i was just using the word 'pie' in a confusing manner to weed out those little kiddies (if there are any)

2)If you mean what i think you mean what you think i mean, then i would also be confused.
PS: congrats to silent film for reaching senior member, now the only way you or raveness (or any other senior member) can beat "heatsink", is to do multiple posts in a row :P
