i still play n so does sim mack, doja and a few others, there are alot of noobs on these days trying strats that were in use months ago its kind of funny, excpet when they get on your team , try to to tell you mongols are the best and that they dont need to manage there workers cause there really good. or the game i was in yesterday where my greek team mate told me he would do all the research out of his capital only forthe whole game, no expansion at all, his reasoning greek are the best for teching.

I won't claim to be a good MP player (just average) but my 13-yr old son can hold his own with any of those guys. I've personally seen him beat several of the players mentioned by Grayson & bumbum (sob, mobius, brent, etc...) in H2H. He wins with just about every civ except the Mongols which he refuses to play, although he is toughest w/Chinese & Spanish. He had a great match going with Morte when my wife disconnected the network. He's not ranked in the top ten but from what I've seen, he's as good as anyone in the top ten & definitely better than me. He plays as Pedal2Metal & xpurplehaze21x. Pedal2Metal is my ID so sometimes it's me playing (if you see Pedal2Metal losing, it's probably me :).

I know he would love to play some good players on a regular basis but currently his grades aren't acceptable so he's grounded. Once he's back in the black, I'm sure he'll be up for a few games.

If you remove the time limit, I can hold my own with anyone, including my son. Hence why I do pretty well in GOTW but only so-so in MP (win 60-75% of my matches). I just can't turn off my "engineering" mind which wants to explore all possibilities & pick the optimal before I make a decision which usually means something important didn't happen or happened too late in timed matches. 13-yr olds don't suffer from that disease... :)

I played against king sob today, but I didn't know and I started in a island with americans.. With a galley and a warrior I got 4 chinese cities, killing all his empire, and using a great artist, then I stole a egyptian caravan (and some chinese cities) using some tactics, like moving a warrior next to a city then moving another one in the same turn to finish them. I lost against the egyptian few cities, but he got really lucky: he had a veteran horsemen army with infiltration, but two times I attacked from a hill trying to counterrack. The first time, 4.5 - 4.5 I lost, giving him the great general, then, he attacked Beijing and I lost 4.5 to 3.75.. I could still win but had to go, etc.. He tried to attack me however (king sob) but nothing else.

King mobeus was pretty good (is he using japanese or perhaps aztecs/arabs? I don't remember) but he didn't want to play me anymore.. maxx as I know is a...

I'm still second on h2h but I got a reset (like others, not because I wasn't playing) on FFA, then I should still be there...

When I ground my son from games (he's more of an FPS gamer, definitely holding his own in Halo and Resistance, although he gives CivRev a good run in SP mode) you'd think the Apocalypse was coming.

noone will ever know who the best players really are cause the rankings reset if you dont play for like a week. except on teams and i havent played teams in like 3 months and im still ranked under 100 in teams

this is my expirience as well. Most players are geniunely good people (on gamer standard anyway), and most freezes and glitches are not due to a cheater in my opinion. I usually will give players that I suspect a second chance (unless they gloat about freezing the game, and then do it). I've played Bin Laden twice now, and both games ended in less than five turns with him locking up the game using the same trick. And then him admitting that he does it to me.... He whines about players using zulu and aztec rushes as a way to justify his actions, but I used Spain in both those games. Also that arguement is retarded because he uses china always, which is an easier civ to use than the Aztecs and more powerful overall than the Zulu. It's like a baseball player on steriods complaining about another playing using a corked bat. But that analogy doesn't work either, since in that case, both players are cheating. It's more like a boxer with brass knuckles under his gloves complaining that the other boxer weighed in above the required weight limit, eventhough he himself is also over the limit. dumb analogies.

It's ok, enough ppl know about him.

And yeah, the leaderboards are less than perfect. But I would consider them functional compared to the mess that is the PS3 leaderboards, which is just a collection of names for the most part, and hardly reflects the true outcome of a majority of the games.

On Xbox, there are random rank resets, the occasional freeze and the occasional wins not counting problem, to go along with a handful of dishonest players. But PS3 has all the problems, plus wins counting as losses on a frequent basis (not just every now and then, like a few times a week), you start with a rating of 0 if you look at the leaderboard before you play your first game, freezing is almost every night, some nights it's impossible to complete a ranked game on PS3. All the PS3 problems with the leaderboards makes 360 players kinda look like whiners, but it's is more annoying to have an almost working product screw you than having a system that you quickly find out is almost completly wrecked.

You fight every day because you have nothing to do and you still think that they would consider you the best. ok.... i see what your saying that you say you almost never run into cheaters but freezes there are and you said bin laden admitted to it... If so many of us saying its happening how many of them are doing it on purpose... when i originally got this game i reached a rank of 22 on freeforall and had a record of like 83 wins and like 30 losses and i would say 20 to 25 of them were due to freezes and i got fed up and sold the game. recently i came back and now i have a record of like 20 wins and 40 losses and like 30 losses are freezes so you tell me... looks like the problem got worse and im not happy and i really like the game and alot of my friends did also but feel the way i do and no longer play. I dont want to stop playing again... all they need to do is monitor better or install a reporting option or something...

Just wanted to focus on one part that the rank resets arent random they happen to people that arent active in h2h or ffa after like a week or two of inactivity they reset you

I'm been fairly fortunate (with the recent exception of a "Garbage" player & admitted lagger) but what I'm trying to do is build a friends list with credible people & then just play private matches. I do hate the fact that the leaderboards don't take integrity of the match into account but I think the only way to address this is the old adage: "If you can't beat them, join them."

If all the honest players want to blacklist someone, it can be done. Just lag the blacklisted player out every time you play them until their ranking drops but everyone has to do it for it to work. I know that sounds cruel but that's how vigilante justice works. It's either that or live with it.

Another option is to film EVERY game you play & when you find a unscrupulous player, you now have the film to prove it & can post it to YouTube. That won't likely deter the specific individual from behaving that way but it does provide a service to inform other scrupulous players who to avoid and/or who to "blacklist" & "rank tank".

At the end of the day, the community has to solve this problem or we have to live with it.

I'm not saying mongols are a bad civilization, but you have to be lucky using them, I mean, if you only get two cities, that wouldn't be enough against good players. Chinese won't have problems against them, only if you get a horsemen army, then you can cause problems. If other civilizations are rushing, it's hard to defend in new cities, because you got few gold
