So for those of you living under a rock, April the 17th will be the day of the new book by J.R.R. Tolkien, Children of Hurin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Children_of_H%C3%BArin). Already preordered mine, anyone else getting it? :)

I should explain as best I can with what limited knowledge I have. As I understand, it was J.R.R's wish that Christopher continues working on his father's writings. The result of this was Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and History of Middle-Earth, out of which I've only ever had access to the first.

I heard the book was terrible, hard to read and boring. Sorry J.R.R

Grrr. This is another work JRR started but his son Chris finished. He just can't get enough of making money off of the franchise. Pisses me off. Pre-order this if you're an LoTR fanboy like the rest of the world.

To elaborate my somewhat trollish post above a bit:
I personnaly enjoy the works of Robert E. Howard, namely the Conan (and other Hyborean Age stories) a lot more than I do enjoy the lengthy and overused to death middle earth of Tolkien.
Of course, a direct comparison of the two isn't entirely fair, Tolkien's work being ultra-lengthy novels while Howard's work is "only" a vast assortment of short stories. But both authors are indeed the founding fathers of the "fantasy" genre.
