View Full Version : Minor disappointment about the demo

I really shouldn't be complaining, since nobody ever expected we'd get a demo and getting to try Bioshock is awesome. (I'll be spending a good 8 weeks in boot camp for the Coast Guard and will be very late to play the game >.<)

The one thing that disappointed me was the lack of the telekinesis plasmid. I know its silly to want every gun/plasmid in the demo, but I think giving us telekinesis over, say, incinerate would have been great, as it really let us see just how great Bioshock's physics engine is. Everything that should move did, which was nice, but you really can't get a good feel for how well a game's physics are implimented without a power like telekinesis, or HL2's gravity gun.

Hmm... I think it wasn't in the demo, is because you don't get it in the game until later.

People would complain more that way. And in the end it wouldn't be worth it.
But you do have a good point.

Everything considered, I thought the Demo was wonderful. We obviously weren't going to do everything, or they might as well just publish the game!

Incinerate is my least fav plasmid so I was disappointed too.

Hmm not sure telekenisis on its own would be quite boring but but with incinerate now it gets interesting

I am thankful that Irrational even put out a demo. I felt completely overwhelmed (in a good way) when you went down into the bathysphere. I think the placement was poor, it didn't really show the wonderful gameplay that it has since it was so early in the game.

P.S. - Was there a shotgun in the demo? I found electric buck shot in it, but I never found a shotty.

I saw that to, but no shotgun popped up, I think you might've been able to use it for a different gun, you're able to switch ammo types so it mighta been an extra thing for the pistol or somethin'

i fund those on a splicer. but yea it is for a shotgun. you can tell by the little icon before you take them

But if they gave us telekinesis, it would take away the fun of discovering it in the full game.

It was way more than enough IMO. I almost crapped my pants when Mr. Bubbles started beating the hell of the splicer.

Yeah, when Little Sister started screaming i thought it was ME she had seen because i was behind the pillar and my view was somewhat restricted. I was like "Oh dear, this is going to be bad", but then i peaked out and was surprised, and relieved by what what I saw happen.

Personally im satisfied with the two plasmids you got (incinerate and lightning-thingy).They both were pretty good, i dont see why telekenesis would need to be used, I've yet to see a grenade fly out at me.
When i was downloading the beta i didnt really expect for there to even be the security bot hacking, so i was pleased by that.
i mostly just wish they hadnt hacked up the intro to rapture (or at least it seems that way to me, i mean, for a game this deep i wouldnt expect the introduction to be so short.) So im holding out to see an extended version in the final copy of the game, or possibly it to go into a bit more detail. maybe the introduction, given enough time, could actually explain and expose the entire plot if it was shown in full in the demo?

Hmm? The intro seemed plenty long to me, and not changed.

Same here, but then again I don't want to see too much of the game before it comes out.

That shouldn't be a disappointment IMHO.. But hey, to each their own! You can't expect them to show everything and yeah the whole telepathic is awesome but it's been done quite a few times. So surely they'd like to show some stuff that hasn't really been used before.

You go way before the chick does right? Why spoil greatness, wait for the game to get it all man!!

I think it would have been awesome to get the telekenisis, but at the same time i didnt. There was a reason why the demo only had fire and shock. They are trying to let the players learn at baby steps some of the things that are yet to come. They chose to tell us about the one-two punch. Im sure this will be implemented in other ways.

Who knows maybe well be able to freeze a splicer in the air and be able to throw him at another one.

It doesn't seem to use a lot of Eve untill you throw the object. Then it uses a little bit, but not to much.

if everything was in the demo. then you wouldn't have any cool features to look foward to. and although you will be busy. not everyone signed up for the coast guard, and won't be able to experience it. so they for the average person, the demo was the perfect time and content.
