Did anybody notice the large sculpture of the hand holding a chain the demo, with the above title?
I'm sure everybody has noticed that your character has what appears to be chains tattooed on both of his wrists, could this indicate some sort of previous connection to Rapture?

Ah I never even realized to put these two facts together.
The chains don't connect on this wrists so he may be the one to break the chain?

Yep, thought of that, too. Could be a symbol of revolution.

Darn just about to post this.
I think there are tons of clues to the plot in the demo, this being one of them

He doesn't have the Chain on his arm until you use the first Plamid, then you notice it.

That's a neat obervation, perhaps the chains around your wrists after using the plasmids symbolize becoming a slave to the plasmids, as it seems many other inhabitants of Rapture have become.

Wrong.
Watch the intro movie, you see the chains on his wrist when he's smoking.
You also see them when he's holding the wrench BEFORE he gets his first plasmid.

Ive got a feeling he has links to rapture in its past maybe as a child, i wonder if some escaped from rapture as it degenerated

The driving forces of mankind's chain have converged upon Rapture. Doubtless they would have pulled the links of culture into a brighter future . . . had they not forsaken their responsibility for the horrors awaiting them in the depths.

As soon as I saw that statue I was stunned. All I could think of was that it had to be a some kind of hidden moral that would become apparent throughout the game.
Now I need to find some screenshots of it. Just so amayzing.

The wife's reaction was that they might be talking about dna chains, which would definitely fit with all the dna tinkering that is going on.

It also seems that behind the banner as you enter with the sentence no gods etc written on it it simply says the great chain without he rest as far as i could see i think its written on the base off the overhead creepy ryan statue

did anyone else notice how when injecting the electrobolt plasmid there was a "chain" of electricity between your characters hands??
This could also just be a coincidence and means literally nothing.
Just thought it was interesting....

Wow, I never thought about that one, but it makes perfect sense. "The great chain" could obviously be the DNA chain and "guided by our hand" is self-explanatory in that context.
I've seen more conjecture taken from this one demo than I've seen come from many full games. That is a very, very good thing.

I've been saying that the main character is Fontaine. PROOF!!

I think that the Great Chain is the chain maybe of destiny, like the string that the furies cut, if I'm remembering correctly, since the entire point of Rapture was to not be controlled by morals, laws, or anything restrictive or progression, so maybe the chain being guided by our hand would be you taking control of your own destiny.

Maybe so but it is a bit cliche. If that is the word to use, I see it a bit too much in stories these days and its a massive coincidence. However if it is true and the main character has a previous connection to Rapture then I hope it plays out well and with a good twist.

Maybe, the main character died on impact from the plane crash, and the chains on his wrists are symbolic of his being trapped in the "purgatory"-like state of Rapture. The citizens of Rapture are merely physical manifestations of the main characters' own feelings of helplessness, in his attempts to understand this new world.
OoooOooOOOOooo .... That's some straight-up Silent Hill ****e, right there.
(But now later posters are saying that the chains DO appear on his wrists... so... basically... WAY TO DEBUNK MY AWESOME THEORY, PEOPLE. SHEESH. FAIL.)

Yes, but it is very subtle since you only see his wrists from the side. They are there however. Look for the dark spot.

edit: "...the chains DO appear on his wrists prior to the plane crashing."
So yeah. I don't have a theory to support that, except maybe he was a citizen of Rapture earlier, and blocked it out of his memory? I'm sure it'll be revealed that the main character has some previous connections with Andrew Ryan later on in the game. Even though I'm predicting this now, I'm sure I'll still be shocked and dumbfounded when the revelation actually occurs in the game.
