Well, if this is actually true, I wonder how they're going to attempt it? I mean, besides the obvious, what new things could you bring into multiplayer that hasn't really been done? How would they implement BioShock's RPG-like elements into the mode?

Well, if it's decent enough, it'll finally satisfy the craving that many have had complaint wise over the game itself: its lack of interplayer interaction, at least.

I'm honestly very hesitant to be excited about this news (if it's true). most of the reason Bioshock was so amazing was because they didn't have to worry about making 2 game modes. By having that extra time to work on one mode made it all the better. But who knows.. maybe they'll pull it off and it'll be amazing on both ends. One can only hope

^Ok for a bit of clarification. Just because there might be multiplayer does not mean anything will happen to the single player. the people who are designiing the single player will not be working any less on the story mode just because there might be a multplayer being designed. There will likely be 2 seperate groups one for making the single player and one for multiplayer. It really makes absolutly no difference whether there is multiplayer component or not.

@Who is Atlas
I think that implementing RPG elements would be easy considering the ways in which the simple RPG elements of Bioshock one could be made to be similar to COD4 perk and weapon customization system.

ahhh i really hope this is not true...... Bioshock is brillant as it is and I prefer it to stay single player.....IMO I really think that multiplayer wouldn't fit in Bioshock Just because its an AAA title doesn't mean the multiplayer will be good..... take GTA IV for example

I really hope this is false. Too many great franchises get ruined by multiplayer because time for singleplayer development gets taken away.

this is a bad thing to say.

-_-'

absolutely no where does it say that bioshock 2 will feature multiplayer.

NOTICE HOW IT SAYS THE CREW THAT MADE BIOSHOCK WILL BE MAKING THE GAME, AND ALSO NOTE THAT BIOSHOCK 2 IS BEING MADE BY A NEW TEAM.

all it says is that they are looking for a multiplayer guy for a AAA title. could be anything, not just bioshock.

never once did i say that this is an absolute confirmation of a mutliplayer in Bioshock 2 .this is merely news that has been picked up by several gaming sites that may be evidence of a multiplayer in Bioshock 2

No matter how you try and spin it. If there is a multiplayer it will take away resources from the actual game.

You say two seperate teams, well the other team could be doing tweaks, or making more content, hence if they are working on something else they are not working on the game.

Well, it's not yet confirmed, as LookBehindU pointed out...so let's take solace in that...but I do agree A. Rand, there's no way around it, if you're paying another team to do multiplayer, you're taking money away from single player.

Great find LookbehindU, while it doesn't serve as an absolute confirmation of multiplayer in Bioshock 2, it is certainly compelling evidence. Particularly the line that "The BioShock team is betting big on multiplayer" seems to come close to sealing the deal.

Personally, although I was against multiplayer initially, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. :D

I am really getting tired of people saying it would ruin the single player that bioshock is known for. They could easily make 2 teams, and both multi and single player would be awesome. If it turns out that both are great, i am going to laugh in people like you's faces. :D

I dont get it. whats with all you nay-sayers. why are you so determined to think that multiplayer will not make the game as good as it should be? have you absolutly no faith in the teams at 2k Marin? how are you so sure that games with mutliplayer would have better plots if there was no multiplayer? the big thing we want in BS2's single player is an excellent plot. geuss who handles the plot:writers! not the people who are doing the work of actually making tha game.
will you now argue that they will not have enough time to make a good long single player if some people are off working on a multiplayer? we dont even have a date yet. there are some vague timeframes but thats it. not to mention the amount of time that they've probably been working on it before it was even announced

Um, there is no reason to have any faith in 2K Marin, this is their first non-port. This is nothing but a bad sign, the BioShock devs said they didn't want multiplayer in the original game because they wanted to focus more on the single-player aspects of the game. Ill omen for sure.

it's not going to have multiplayer. 2K are making another shooter http://www.psu.com/BioShock-team-picks-up-new-title-News--a006304-p0.php

Good catch errorless. You motivated me to track down the original job listing (which was not linked to in the original article). The job posting is actually for 2k Boston, which is working on it's own new original IP, not 2k Marin! Although i would still be surprised if Bioshock 2 didn't have MP, we can consider this rumor debunked for now.
